Re: Citing census folios and pages - A question
Yes. EE is not something that I follow rigorously; as you can likely guess. I started to try to use it several book revisions ago. I eventually came to the conclusion that it was best suited to short academic works for which one could afford the time to hand-craft citations. Since that point, I've u...

Re: Citing census folios and pages - A question
KFN; I appreciate you responding and challenging what is stated. Discussion helps me develop my ideas more fully. So here is my reasoning, such as it is. I realize that EE makes a good try at accommodating online sources. However; the issue is more about what each layer is supposed to contain and wh...

Re: Citing census folios and pages - A question
Following the conventions I saw in the 1990s when viewing some Lancashire/Cheshire census surname indexes in booklets, I record the Folio rather than the page number and if it's the second page of the folio I add a 'b' after it. e.g. 6 and 6b. I'm not suggesting this is good practice but just thoug...

Re: Citing census folios and pages - A question
KFN; Thank you for your response. Yes; I am referring to the folio in a census book. In classic Evidence Explained style, I would usually include an italicized "r" or "v". Adrian has pointed out, on many occasions, that adding the page number effectively removes the need to add &...

Re: Citing census folios and pages - A question
Just a Note... As I'm hoping to have one of the plugins introduce some structure to my naming of media files by matching the source record name, I've reworked my template to turn out titles that would be valid Windows filenames. eg. Bishop, George [1851-03-30, Census, England] - HO 107, pc. 1612, fo...

Re: Citing census folios and pages - A question
Adrian; I currently record it as you suggested. Somehow the method didn't seem too "clean" and I was hoping to find something that would be better. It sort-of bothered my OCD side that it didn't actually say "fo. 362, p. 23, sch. 99 (cont'd. on fo. 363, p. 24)" and I couldn't see...

Re: Citing census folios and pages - A question
David; I tend to have one citation per set of images covering the whole household, except when someone is in an institution and the other people are not related. My citation is for the head of household and household members are implicitly included, except in the case of institutions. In that case, ...

Re: Citing census folios and pages - A question
KFN;
How do you deal with the folio?
eg. if the schedule 15 family starts on page 5 of folio 6 and continues on page 6 of folio 7
The above gets a bit difficult to template and pretty much needs to be entered a a single template field.
I'm hoping to have separate fields for each element.

Victor;
That does not solve the issue of having to cite two or more folio-page pairs.
That's the real issue for me.

Citing census folios and pages - A question
How are people handling documenting the British census folio and page portion of a citation? These are two separate and distinct "where-in" schemes. When one has two or more images, things get "a bit messy". I notice that the online databases never explicitly mention continuation...

Re: England & Wales census records
Adrian; I'm just cleaning up my notes on the subject and wanted to pass the following table by you to see if I've missed something. I'm finding that we sometimes include far more than is required to relocate a record. That can mean a lot of unnecessary work in developing templates. I keep any additi...

That plugin worked very well. Surprised it isn't in the plugin store. I can see a lot of people wanting to do this as they become more familiar with what templates they need.

Re: Changing the source template for specific sources

Changing one source template entry changed all of the source records that used the original template. What I need to do is to change to the cloned template only for selected source records...

Re: Changing the source template for specific sources
What you describe means that I have to re-enter all the data into the new template, even though only the name has changed.
Is there no way to split off certain sources under a new template name?

Re: Changing the source template for specific sources
I want to have source templates that are peculiar to a given country. Currently I have one template with all the required data, but one field is a catch-all and a bit confusing to complete.I want to split that field into a few fields that are appropriate to the country within a new template. I want ...

Changing the source template for specific sources
I currently have all my census records using the same template. I'm now finding that it would be better for me to tailor the template for each country. I was hoping that I could just make a copy of the existing template, then change certain sources to use that template and subsequently edit the temp...

Re: Origin of 'Generic Type' in Source Records tab?
A Templated Source is just a Generic Source in fancy clothes -- i.e. with some metafields added. The generic source fields aren't usually populated in a Templated source, but you can add them and populate them via the All tab for the source record converned (Right click on the record title and Add ...

Re: Origin of 'Generic Type' in Source Records tab?
Thanks, Nick & Mike After looking at it a bit, I'm not sure that my removing the redundant "Generic Type" info from my source titles would be wise. FH7 would then see some sources as being the same (if all other elements of the title are identical). So for me; perhaps it really doesn't...

Origin of 'Generic Type' in Source Records tab?
Where does FH7 get the 'Generic Type' field info that is shown in Source Records tab?
If one has used Ancestral Sources (A.S.) to enter sources, does it automatically populate this field despite one not using Generic Sources?
If so, how does one set it when not using A.S.?
