Re: GRO BMD Index Citations
Mike; If I understood John correctly, it is very important to him that the GEDCOM resulting from using his plugin associates the entered data elements with the correct GEDCOM tag. Because of the way templates work, is this really possible when using a user template? I know that in RootsMagic, using ...

Re: GRO BMD Index Citations
John;
I have sent you an email containing the example. Feel free to post it or just try it out, as you wish.
I felt that it would be best to let you see if it was what you needed, first, rather than clutter the thread.

Re: GRO BMD Index Citations
John;
I have some split BMD Index templates that I should be able to rework to lumped ones in short order.
Would that help?

Re: Basic setup and use of Generic Sources
Mike;
I was just trying to get an idea of what it does as the description in the plugin store is obviously lacking.
Guess I'll have to wait until it's upgraded for FH7 and I can actually see it in action.

Re: Basic setup and use of Generic Sources
There may be some slight confusion in using the word template in the context of generic Source Citations. Generic Source Citations have a structure, just like all other FH/GEDCOM data, but no template is involved. Mike; I was referring to the "template" defined in the file loaded by the p...

Re: Basic setup and use of Generic Sources
Helen; Thank you for the suggestion. I'm using v7 of FH, so I'll have to wait until you do the upgrade to fully assess the situation and see how to proceed. I had a quick look at the features of the plugin, as well as the code. The code somehow looks familiar to me. I've programmed in many languages...

Re: Basic setup and use of Generic Sources
Thank you, Mike.
Playing with John's GRO Index plugin peaked my interest and I thought I'd try to learn a bit more about Generic Sources before getting too far into my data-entry.

Basic setup and use of Generic Sources
Just a background/side-question question to build up my knowledge of how Generic Sources work and help me decide when to use them... Do all the fields on a Generic Sources map to standard GEDCOM fields that the majority of Genealogy programs should interpret correctly? Are there any good Knowledge-B...

Re: GRO BMD Index Citations
Thanks, Mike. That may solve one potential issue. If I understand correctly, one would have to customize the generic template to incorporate that switch logic. However; the customization would then still be global to all generic templates; wouldn't it? It would definite work to replace setting the c...

Re: GRO BMD Index Citations
Here is a bit more polished version that seems to have the key info needed to relocate a record; even if one wishes to use an alternate source for the index. John; Does this make sense to you? Footnote England & Wales Birth Index [GRO Website] . 1872 Q4 Oct-Nov-Dec Bath Vol: 05C Page: 677. Cit. ...

Re: GRO BMD Index Citations
John; If one turns on "Text from Source" for the Footnotes in the Generic Citation Configuration Menu, then the Mother's Maiden Name or Age at death will appear in the citations. This makes it immediately visible; something we chatted about earlier. I'm not well-enough versed in Generic So...

With Respect to where to include the mother's maiden name... How about appending it to the "Citation-specific Details" > "Where Within" data that now holds something like "1872 Q4 Oct-Nov-Dec Bath Vol: 05C Page: 677"? It could look like "1872 Q4 Oct-Nov-Dec Bath V...

Re: GRO BMD Index Citations
I've spent all morning trying to find a way to automatically open the drop downs in a way that wouldn't bemuse the user. All get sticky when a new district name is being entered so I'm giving up on that for now. If you use the dropdown arrow on the list to open it the mouse pointer remains visible ...

Re: GRO BMD Index Citations

John;
Oddly it works when something in the list is highlighted, but not when one has placed the cursor in one of the filter-related fields.That annoyed me, but I think it's because the escape key has a function within list controls.

Re: GRO BMD Index Citations
2) May want to consider allowing the user to optionally include the added info from the GRO Index as a part of a Citation Specific Note, instead of only as a citation note in the notes tab. BMD index Entries have so little to record that I doubt anyone will look at the notes tab that often, but the...

Great option for those who don't use formal citations and just want the information recorded in their FH project :) Teresa; John stated earlier that he is considering supporting templates.
