Missing information list
Roots Magic 7 has a missing information list where you can select a fact type and it will list inviduals missing this fact. For example I could look for all my direct ancestors who do not have a baptism record. Is there something similar in FH7 or is this something I could do using a query. I know t...

Re: Switching tips? (RM->FH)
I'm in the same boat. I liked RM7 but couldn't get on with RM8 so decided to move to FH7. The issues I've found so far are with sources/source templates, RM7 had two levels but FH7 has three. This confused me for a while but there is a plug in you can get which will sort this out 'Create Source Temp...

Re: Text size on maps
I've had a quick search of the osm forums and found little of use. I have to admit most of it seem gibberish to me but then I don't know much about the package. I did find some references to tiles which seem to be which bits of maps you display and the text size is a feature of these tiles, but that...

Re: Text size on maps
I'm talking about the place names and street names on the map itself. These resize when you zoom in but are still too small to read. There is usually a brief moment when you zoom in when they become readable but then they resize to very small.

Re: Text size on maps
Yes, it makes all the other text larger but has no effect on the maps.

Text size on maps
Is there any way to increase the text size on maps? Mine is tiny and I can find no way to increase the size. I'm using the default Open Street Map and FH7. I only get this in FH7 as if I use the web version the text size is readable.

Re: Importing from RM - dates from before calendar change
Just received a response from CP. They've confirmed this is a problem and they'll let me know when a fix is available.

Re: Importing from RM - dates from before calendar change
As advised, I've reported this to CP and sent them a sample file. I'll email them a link to this thread as well.

Importing from RM - dates from before calendar change
I've just noticed something odd with dates from before the calendar change that have two years, eg 1 Jan 1723/4. The dates in FH7 are a year ealier that those in RM7. For example a child who was baptised on 17 Mar 1728/9 in RM7 has a baptism date of 17 Mar 1727/28 in FH7. I have checked multiple dat...

Re: Relationship in Ancestors Query
RM did not get this correct either. It had the first husband down correctly as my eighteenth great grandfather but his son as my fifteenth great granduncle, not seventeenth great grandfather. I suppose it makes sense that it picks the fewest generations back as the closest link but it did look odd. ...

Relationship in Ancestors Query
My tree goes back a long way and I have some interesting relationships. I have one woman who is both my great (x18) grandmother from her first marriage and my great (x16) grandmother from her second marriage. She is shown correctly as my great (x16) grandmother on the Ancestors query as is her secon...

Re: Backing up data and settings
The registry entries appear to be the preference setting from the Tools menu. I have not changed most of these so I am not too bothered about them at the moment. Those I have changed I can easily replicate. I have only been using FH for about a month and most of that times I was testing it to see ho...

Re: Backing up data and settings
Thanks Mike. I'll check out these folders. I suspect I only need to sync the ProgramData and AppData folders as the registry should sort itself out if I have to reinstall everything from scratch. I've never had a disk fail at home but I did have a motherboard failure at work once, and a couple of my...

Backing up data and settings
I backup my computer regularly by syncing the My Documents folder with an external drive. Now I've installed FH are there any other folders I should add to this sync so I don't lose any data or settings in the case of a system failure?

Re: 1841 census showing children who were dead
The mother of the family in question was almost certainly illiterate as she marked her marriage record. The father signed but again this may mean he just knew how to sign his name. On another note checking the indices with the mother's maiden name I found that the birth certificate I have for my 2nd...

Re: 1841 census showing children who were dead
David, thanks for this. I did not know about the mother's maiden name on the GRO indices. That will make searching a lot easier. I've been using FreeBMD, Ancestry or FindMyPast for this none of which show the mother's maiden name. Another task to add to my to do list.

Re: 1841 census showing children who were dead
Thanks for your replies. I've decided to revisit some areas of reasearch I did many years ago. I had already entered the census details but never bothered to go further with the siblings of my ancestor. There were from Bristol and at the time the parish records were not available on line. I'm inclin...

1841 census showing children who were dead
I've come across something a bit odd on the 1841 census for one of my ancestors. There are entries for two children aged 8 and 3 where I can find burial records from before 1841. The one aged 8 was baptised on 13 Oct 1833 aged 2 months and buried on 25 Sep 1836 age 3 years. The one aged 3 was baptis...

Re: Source tempates from Roots Magic
I'm a lumper. I've spent most of the last couple of years tidying up my sources and citations in RM7 and lumping was easier than splitting. I'm reluctant to do this again in FH7 so, if I decide to move, I'll probably leave things as they are for now and maybe revisit it at a later date. I have until...

Re: Source tempates from Roots Magic
I think I've worked out how to change my Sources to use the built in definitions. I used menu Add, Source/Citation, Create Source from Template/Prepare Citation. Then clicked the Find More button and added the Source Template Definitions I wanted to the Project. I can now see them in the Source List...

Re: Source tempates from Roots Magic
Thanks I didn't realise this. RM only has two levels. I'm still evaluating FH7 to decide whether to change over from RM so I'm trying things out to see what is different. I only changed the collection name for a test and I can always re-import the data from RM. Is there any way to change my sources ...

Re: Replicating named groups from RM7
I have no problems with changing queries to use my facts. I've already done this for the Alive at 1841 census and it was quite simple. I haven't started looking a reports yet so I don't know if this will be an issue but it wasn't in RM and I can't see FH will be that different. I still might change ...

Source templates from Roots Magic

I ran the plugin Create Source Template Definitions as advised and this seemed to do the trick. However when I go to the Sources list and look at the source template for a source it does not...

Re: Replicating named groups from RM7
I set up my own census facts for ease of use and it was much easier to query a single event in RM then have to use census dates. It is also easier to see on an individuals records which census is which. I have been doing this for many years and don't really want to change now even though in FH it mi...
