Re: Virtual Family Historian PDF printer accidentally deleted
I'm running FH version 5.0.11 on a Windows 10 Home PC. I accidentally deleted the virtual FH pdf printer, so I can't make pdfs any more. There were posts about this around 10 years ago which seem to suggest I have to upgrade my FH version to get the "printer" back. Is that so? Thanks I had a simila...

Re: Custom Templates
An enum field allows you to choose from a set of predefined values (specified in the source template e.g. England|Scotland|Wales|Ireland), so would not help you with a dropdown list of family members. Somebody looking from outside might think you're specifying informant in both a source field and a...

Re: Custom Templates
That should work. If you have more than one project, you'd need to customise the template in each project to hold the correct list of names. Thanks Helen, I'd realized that, in switching between sample project and my own, luckily at the moment I only run one project. Do I take it that the only way ...

Re: Custom Templates
Been playing with templates in sample project, and I think I've found a workable solution (holds breath !) . I used the Oral Testimony and made changes see screenshots : You can add individuals via <Add new...> , but to delete individuals you have to go into the "Source Templates" box, and delete fr...

Custom Templates
I've been exploring the custom templates, and thought the "Oral Testimony" was a better constructed source than the one I was using, with a few modifications : I used the expression 'Author' for the "Select Informant" field, and the 'where within source' for the citation "informant" field, would doi...

Re: How to save a view
Just another little niggle:
when I choose file root (myself), the focus window changes from the size and position I'm using, to full screen !!!
surely that's a bug ?
Ian
ps I'm still enjoying the program overall, although not adding any new research until I become more proficient

Re: Lat and Long for address?
Ian, I believe the 3rd parameter should probably be "1" not "4". That parameter specifies how many sections (parts) to return. Try =TextPart(%_PLAC%,2,1,STD), =TextPart(%_PLAC%,3,1,STD), etc. See the help for TextPart. Bill Thanks Bill, that solved the problem, I'm an absolute beginner when it come...

Re: Lat and Long for address?
I'm trying to find the best method for my address/place records to use in the mapping window, I came to the conclusion to have 'address, place, county, country' in the place box, and it seems to work in the first few examples I tried, certainly in the map, the only strange thing is the data in the colu...

Re: How to save a view
Ian, when the FH main window opens what icons are on the very top right-hand corner? Are they — □ X or is the middle one a double box and when you hover cursor on it does it say Restore Down ? If the former □ then try dragging the edges of the window to make it smaller and reposition it. If the lat...

Re: Sources image duplication in 'Family Group Sheet' in FH7
Or you could hide the Entry Date if it is not needed in the Report and that will avoid the duplicates. Use Tools > Preferences > Sources and the Generic Sources Formats... button where you can untick Entry Date . I assume you are still using all Generic Source Citations. Mike I tried hiding the ent...

Re: Sources image duplication in 'Family Group Sheet' in FH7
Thanks Mike & Lorna, I've managed to sort the duplication, it seems to be as Lorna stated, when checking the different citations for a source, I discovered that the dates on the citations varied, this is a hangover from my historical bad practice of using the date section for the date I had entered ...

Sources image duplication in 'Family Group Sheet' in FH7
Is it possible to restrict images of sources in a 'Family Group Sheet' to one, even though the source may be quoted for a number of different items. In a Family Group Sheet I am using as a basis for a Web/ CD I have multiple images of birth certificates, census pages, etc. I'm impressed with the abi...

Re: How to save a view
Remembering state of window on start up I've recently upgraded to FH7 Checked FH4 on laptop, I have focus window and property box floating, and on restart the same window appears, although it always reverts to the root person, any records windows previously open are closed on restart. FH7: on reopen...

I've finally upgraded to FH7 on my pc, and am impressed , especially the Map facility, and the ease of moving between various records, still playing with sources, but making progress. Once again thanks for everyone's support !

Re: FH7
Wow I've really opened a can of worms ! I had noticed in one of Mike's posts he had mentioned hanging fire on his main project until FH7 had settled in, which made me ponder. I think for the next couple of weeks I'll continue browsing the forum, before I make the decision, I'll also copy everything ...

Re: FH7
by ColeValleyGirl » 04 Mar 2021 17:57 It's worth taking your time to understand all the differences you'll find between version 4 and version 7 -- the change will be a steep learning curve, and you'll want to decide what new features will impact you. Are you already using the Project structure for ...
