Re: Setting box features using data reference for DNA witness role
I don't know if this will help on a slightly different tack, but ignore if not! I use a version of Jane's GEDmatch fact and associated query for DNA matches. I've set a box condition for individuals who have a GEDmatch fact, which adds a specific colour to the box border and displays a flag accordin...

Re: 1939 Register
I have recently adopted the following: "Sorry I don't remember my date of birth, but YOU have it on that piece of paper infront of you. So perhaps you could remind me?" It doesn't go down well. I doubt that it does. They are obliged to confirm that you are the person whose details they ha...

Re: 1939 Register
I agree that the census fact is the best fit for recording information from the 1939 register. But from a previous post on this forum, I cribbed alterations to the census fact sentence template and record window listing which edit the census fact so that records from the 1939 register are shown as s...

Re: Date range on property box facts tab
I have to say that I fully agree with Helen and Adrian. I've always regarded the details in the fact tab as a summary, and as with any other information shown in the list, it is easy to see the full details, whether that be of the date, the place, the event or attribute itself, by clicking on the re...

I add such individuals to a named list, "Unconfirmed Relatives", together with a box expression to show a question mark against those list members in charts and diagrams. A note attached to the individual record explains the evidence that supports or suggests the relationship, and the reas...

Re: {'statusCode':400,'error':'Bad Request','message':'Invalid cookie header'
Same in Chrome/Win 10. I have had to login much more frequently for some weeks now, and I have seen others mention the same on a different forum. Also some users reporting that FH is crashing now when they attempt to view FMP hints. I wonder if that has resulted from their attempts to fix the invali...

Re: Death certificate research question
It will show the name of the informant, who notified the death to the registrar. That may or may not be a family member depending on the circumstances or location of the death. It might also state that the deceased was the husband of {name}, but again it may not. There was no requirement to record a...

Re: Julian calendar dates at end of a century
I have seen similar on more than one occasion, but after finding an image of the original register or document, it became apparent that one transcript had already converted the date to the Gregorian calendar, and the second transcript had presumably be made from the first transcript or a similar cop...

Re: {'statusCode':400,'error':'Bad Request','message':'Invalid cookie header'
I get the 400 error occasionally with Find My Past hints in the internal browser. Reloading the page usually fixes it (the circular arrow button to the left of the address bar in the internal browser window) but if not I choose to open the page in my external browser (the three small dots to the upp...

No, the link I referred to in my previous post is for an offer of a 12 month worldwide subscription for £89.99. It seems to only work reliably if you have let your subscription lapse, as it is intended for "new" subscribers, although as I mentioned I successfully accessed it about a month ...

Re: Narrative Report Sentence Structure
This is from the list of version updates for FH 7.0.18, which expands on Lorna's post. Since the last release, Family Historian now has two sentence template codes – {note} and {inline-note} – where previously it just had one ({note}). When generating sentences and sentence templates for narrative r...

Re: Chart family lines
There were a number of fixes to crossing lines and box placement made by CP in earlier V7 updates. I know because I reported some of them, and saw at least one additional issue reported in the forum that was also fixed. It may be worth reporting it to CP just in case. If they can verify an unintende...

Re: Birth certificate not found at GRO England
I assumed from Victor's post that he's referring to copies of the original parish register marriage entries that LMA hold. if you order a marriage certificate from GRO you get a copy of the same register entry on a fancy piece of paper. But I'm not sure about them being freely available at LMA. Many...

Re: Birth certificate not found at GRO England
And it's also always possible the clerk at the district registration office made an error...ALL documents contain the possibility of error. Yes, of course that is also true, and the informant could also have lied. But the local district copy, if it is an image of the original register, is as close ...

Re: Birth certificate not found at GRO England
And the original handwritten register entries are held by district registration offices. The copies held by GRO are also transcripts, laboriously copied from the original records by the registrars and periodically sent to GRO. The GRO copies can also contain errors as in the example I mentioned here...

A newer link to a worldwide subscription for £89.99 has recently been posted on the RootsChat forum. I'm not sure that it would be ...

Re: Birth and Birth Registration
Not quite. Neither of them are copies of certificates. The certificates they provide to order are copies of the register entries. Local registration offices usually have the original registers, and can provide certificates which often, but not always, contain an image of the original entry. I have L...

Re: Splash screen in v7.0.21.0
Ah. On both machines FH when restored down occupies the right half of the screen, so that I can still refer to and enter data into it whilst viewing information in the left half. I'm not going to change that just to reposition the splash screen, so I guess I'll just have to live with it. It would ha...

Splash screen in v7.0.21.0
The list of updates for version 7.0.21.0 includes an adjustment to the behaviour of the splash screen for multiple monitors. "If you have multiple monitors, the Splash screen did not always appear where the main window would appear. It now appears centred on where the ‘restored’ (i.e. when not ...

Re: Recording a death at sea
Not a death, but my GF was at sea on the night of the 1921 census. I edited the fact sentence to simply <para>{note}<para> and the fact note reads, "He appeared in the census on 19 June 1921 as a Signalman on board HMS Cleopatra, a light cruiser of the Royal Navy, then serving in the Atlantic F...

Re: Edit of Marriage record
The Vicar is quite interesting. George Townsend MARKER, an alumni of Balliol College, Oxford. Vicar of Uffculme from 1833 until his death on 4th December 1874. He apparently assumed the surname of SMITH in lieu of MARKER at some stage. Both names can be found in the same register as the marriage und...

Re: Recording the sources for a relationship.
Ah, then I have misunderstood the role definition. Having spent many years assessing evidence and preparing documents for criminal proceeding though, it still seems odd to me, although I can now see the difference. I must admit that I have never used the witness role in the way you describe in my pr...
