Re: Batch change media image extensions

I’d just add that i understand and value the ability of the plugin to alter path/filenames.ext as part of its functionality. My primary concern was that it altered the extension so casually without notice. A novice user might have seen that and assumed that the plugin had actually converted the file...

Re: Batch change media image extensions

Changing the Media file extension is a bit more involved because the file itself must be converted. Yes, this is the part that threw me for a moment. I simply did not expect that the filename itself would be changed. I was expecting that the plugin changed the "records" only. That said, i...

Re: Batch change media image extensions

To try and identify why the plugin finds 3777 entries, tick just one Extra Filters tab at a time. That will probably find 1887 .JPG File Link entries and 1890 Multimedia Format entries. i.e. You have some Media records for non .JPG files but with an erroneous Format field. Remember the plugin is ma...

Re: Batch change media image extensions

Not strictly correct - the 3 character file extension was a feature of the old DOS operating system. Windows 95 fixed that nearly 30 years ago, but such was the dominance of MS at the time, the “feature” has stuck around. Right you are. I should have said “Bill gates came along”. I do have fond mem...

Re: Batch change media image extensions

Does this matter? It does matter to some external apps however, TNG being one of them. It's maybe niche, but it did cause me a headache to sort out at one point so it might be worth being consistent. I use TNG directly with FH export and I've not had any issues with format types being jpg. I've mai...

Re: Batch change media image extensions

If you change just .jpg to .png throughout and ignore .jpeg, you’ll end up with files with a .png extension described as jpeg, which is a bit of a bugger’s muddle. I’m wary of this type of global change unless you know exactly what you are doing, but as with all advice here, on your head be it… I'm...

Re: Batch change media image extensions

In the plugin, set the Search Scope to Multimedia Records (OBJE). On the Extra Filters tab, tick the Multimedia Format & Place Hierarchy fields. ( Place Hierarchy is irrelevant as the Search Scope is Multimedia Records only. ) Also, tick the Multimedia Linked File fields and Media files. I sugg...

Re: Batch change media image extensions

Don’t forget that the file format name is jpeg, not jpg. FH is not consistent in how it records format for .jpg files, apparently using either the full name or Microsoft contraction at random. You may well have some jpeg formats even if all your files are .jpg - check the Media tab of the Records W...

Re: Batch change media image extensions

Remember that not only the Media File extension must be changed but also the File Format field. I suggest using the Search and Replace plugin which can narrow the scope to Media records and specific fields. It can also cope with both jpg and jpeg in a single pass. I can supply details when needed. ...

Batch change media image extensions

I am interested in converting all my .JPG media into .PNG format. That is easily done, but my question is; Is there a reasonably easy way to globally edit the extensions of existing media records? For example, I have media records that point to several files, such as "/media/../filename.JPG&quo...

Re: Linux

If I understand correctly, and to summarise... To run Windows effectively in Linux within a Virtual Machine needs more RAM than running the same Windows version natively on the same hardware. So there is little if any benefit and you still need a Windows licence. Beware that there have been, and ma...

Re: Linux

I have an older laptop that runs Win10 poorly... Would Linux with an emulator speed it up? Appreciate any advice if a virtual machine or an emulator would help my speed issues. Linux on your laptop would likely transform it into a completely different machine (see caveats below). The resource deman...

Ditto on this issue under Windows 7 x64 - same issue; perfect normal routine, app will not start at all. .net libs installed. It installs and runs perfectly on Win10, just not Win7. Re: Linked errors with new media

Can and will followup with a report, Mike. Thanks for staying with it until a solution, or at least an explanation was found :) So, the workaround for me will be to try to remember to run the Validate function before I exit after adding these kinds of citations. I do run Validate as a routine every ...

Re: Linked errors with new media

What I cannot explain is why the _ASID numbers are getting upset in Joel's case, unless he is copy & pasting Citations but omitted to mention that. It's possible that's the case, but I don't recall. It would not be unusual for me to do so. That would explain the inconsistent nature of my experi...

Re: Linked errors with new media

Sorry Joel, I don't understand your description. Are you saying you have found the text draft-card-wwI-Paul-E-Turnell in the JPG image note field of its Properties? But then you call it the image description ? Then you say you just pasted the filename which is service-card-Paul-Edward-Turnell and n...

Re: Linked errors with new media

I wonder if you can inspect the service-card-Paul-Edward-Turnell.jpg image file to investigate its meta-data. (Perhaps inspect the original download rather than the FH Media copy that Validate may have modified.) Use an image editor such as IrfanView and use Image > Information > EXIF Info Or use F...

Re: Linked errors with new media

I wonder if the clue is in the Validation message referring to (draft-card-wwI-Paul-E-Turnell) ? Whereas the filename is service-card-Paul-Edward-Turnell.jpg Maybe there is some Meta-data or Tag in the image file that FH thinks disagrees with the Media Record . This may be related to the Tools > Pr...

Re: Linked errors with new media

Sorry, not sure what you mean about the screenshots being different. Apart from the text content; and that fact that I 'chopped off' the lower portion of the screen to focus more on the file path created they are identical. As far as the creation process: I just used the media 'screen' pictured bel...

I don't really have an answer for you, I only know that that the method I described auto-creates an absolute, rather than the usual relative, File Path. Re: Linked errors with new media

To clarify my setup and paths, VM, etc. I am running FH under a Windows 7 VirtualBox VM. Virtualbox is running under my primary desktop, which is Linux KDE.
