Re: Possible to backtrack edits in database?

File -> Merge was a good idea for me

The possibility to sort on "Updated" date in the "Merge file" dialogue seems to be what I needed to identify all edits since a particular date.

Thanks,

Re: Possible to backtrack edits in database?

Thanks Jane and Mike!

This looks very helpful - I will have a go with File>Merge Compare first

Possible to backtrack edits in database?

Hi,

in FH6, is it somehow possible to generate a list of changes to the database in chronological order? So that I can backtrack my own changes?

Re: TNG not able to import GEDCOM from FH6

I am running TNG on my own server, so I'm depending on my own setup of apache, mysql and php. At some point, maybe connected to an upgrade, I have lost my php-configuration. Specifically, upload_max_filesize and post_max_size have been set too low for php to accept bigger gedcom files. Smaller gedco...

Re: TNG not able to import GEDCOM from FH6

The non-graceful behaviour was due to limitations in php.ini, so not really a TNG or FH issue.

Anyway, your information will be very useful, so thanks again for that,

Re: TNG not able to import GEDCOM from FH6

Thanks for the information Mike, I have not been very active (yet) since switching from TMG to Family Historian, so you are right that I do not have much experience with FH. My last transfer to TNG may well have been from TMG. I am used to challenges transferring information via GEDCOM between diffe...

TNG not able to import GEDCOM from FH6

Hi, I just ran into a problem when trying to import a FH 6.2.7 GEDCOM to TNG 12.3. TNG throws a dialogue with the message "Import could not be resumed. It may have already finished". The developer of TNG (Darrin) gets the same result, and he believe something is wrong with the GEDCOM. I also tried e...

Re: One natural parent, one step parent

Calico Pie requested a small GEDCOM sample demonstrating this phenomena, which I supplied, and they respond: Thank for reporting this. I can confirm that this is a bug. It will be fixed in a future release. For interest, a line such as "Burial of half-brother ...." is wrong for 2 reasons: first, it ...

Re: Media link information stored where?

Thanks, this looks fine! Do you really understand Norwegian?

Census Method 1 Title Template looks like this: {SOURCETYPE} {YEAR} {PLACE} {REF} ({OTHER})
I have not been editing this myself yet.

Template for Norwegian 1910 census

Thanks Bill, I don't think you were slow at all. On the contrary, active help and response like I have received from you and Mike Tate makes it much easier for me to decide to switch to FH. Actually, FH starts to look more and more like "good old TMG" to me - neither the active user society nor the ...

Re: One natural parent, one step parent

*Blush* should have seen that, thanks! This seems to trigger a strange phenomena. The child now has two sets of parents. The mother is the same in the two sets, while one set has the birth father and the other set the step-father. The child has two brothers and one sister with the same birth parents...

Re: Media link information stored where?

Thanks for explaning Bill As a new user of FH and AC I'm probably not the right one to give advice, but I would certainly be interested in testing if you create a template for the 1910 census. I could also be interested in looking closer at this later when I am more up and running with FH. Do you ha...

One natural parent, one step parent

Hi, I have found I can flag a set of parents as step, foster, adopted, birth asf by right-clicking the child in the Focus window and choosing in "Relationship to parents" I have a situation where I want to register only one of the parents in a couple as a step-parent, the other as parent by birth. I...

Re: Media link information stored where?

Thanks again, I did not notice Ancestral Sources before you mentioned it. It looks very useful and I'll be sure to test it. I just installed it and I noticed that the last published Norwegian census (1910) is not included. Just mentioning it in case it's of interest to the maintainer(s). Jan 2018-12...

Re: Media link information stored where?

My first subjective observations after using the three alternatives for a short period (focusing on the positives): Family Historian Good import from TMG, famous GEDCOM compatibility, modern and good user interface, photo tagging/linking, good reports, good suppor...

Re: Media link information stored where?

Thanks for the welcome :-) and thanks for the info! I guess there is really no good way to make information like this portable yet. Which is a pity, as a photo often has much less value if you do not know who it show. I am a TMG refugee, looking for the best available software for my purpose. Family...

Media link information stored where?

Hi,

anyone knows where the media link (simple link, face link) information is stored?
Is it stored in the FH database, or is it stored as metadata in each individual photo (EXIF, IPTC, XMP)?

regards,
Jan
