Re: Simple Marriage Certificate Plugin
Hi Norman, Thanks for the update. I'll test it again soon :) Teresa <SNIP> Thanks for trying this out. I knew the help screen would be too large, hence I put it in a scrolled text box; I should have thought this may be too large as well. Hopefully this will work for you. Calico Pie have already post...

Re: Simple Marriage Certificate Plugin
Oops - forgot I could have tried Alt-F4. I look forward to testing the version with the scroll bar. I'm helping someone I know to move her tree to FH and might consider suggesting the plug-in to her. <SNIP> Apologies for this - I tend to use ALT F4 to kill the top most window. In this case it may ha...

Re: Simple Marriage Certificate Plugin
Hi Normie, While I generally prefer and use Ancestral Sources, I decided to give your plugin a test. Alas, it failed for me. I use a 17" Win10 Pro laptop, yet the display on your plugin ran off the top and bottom of the page and effectively froze FH for me, forcing me to kill it using Task Mana...

Re: filling out a source template
I agree with everything Gary said. One note of caution - over the years I've discovered that Ancestry doesn't always get the Reference number correct in some of its Source of source listings - sometimes they lead to an entirely different church register. I now routinely check the catalogue of the ho...

Re: For citation nerds
Given we share a border, it's criminal how much it costs to send stuff across it. Helen Osborn is one UK author who writes good genealogy books - Genealogy: Essential Research Methods (2012) and Our Village Ancestors (2021). I have the former and am hoping to get the latter sometime this year. Helen...

The publisher REFUSES to ship outside the US. Says it has had bad experiences, so just have a copy shipped to an American friend/relative and get them to forward it to you  Offered the ebook, but it costs $70 Cdn...um, no. Re: Monumental Inscriptions - thoughts?
I should also add that I have real trouble with abstract thinking, so I can't really provide much input until a new version is published and I can try it out. Thoughts on all of the above would be much appreciated. Of course as always AS will be very flexible and allow for the user to format these a...

Yep, you're right. It was early in the morning when I answered - clearly wasn't thinking with all neurons firing... For women, it's tricky as I want it to link to her main record, which has her birth surname, but also need to note her married name. I would likely use my own edited source temp...

Re: Monumental Inscriptions - thoughts?
I'm fine with Monumental inscription. I guess for instances where two people share a headstone, but died on different dates (generally the case), I would just enter each separately and just link the same media image. For women, it's tricky as I want it to link to her main record, which has her birth...

Screenshots might prove helpful in this situation, so Jane and Mike can see what you're doing. I have clicked on the cog wheel and selected add row. All that happens is it asks me to select a name, then tells me that name doesn’t exist to select a new one, when I do I just get a big plus sign, and t...

Thanks, Mike... At this point, going through and updating all those profiles is a work in progress, so no, they haven't all been deleted in the Individual records at this point. I've deleted a couple from the Fact Type list with no discernible harm to the Individual records (for individuals at the o...

Two years ago, when I permanently switched from RM8 to FH7, I imported my RM database and began the Herculean task of cleaning it up, "corrupted" as it was by junk from years of TreeShare with Ancestry. While the initial TreeShare saved me years of work and weeks of downloading individual ...

Re: Essentials Templates Advice
I do indeed clone and edit some of the Essentials templates. The flexibility of the template editor is one of the big advantages of FH. Like Gary, I work with a modified Strathclyde style, taking into account also some of the elements illustrated by Mcdonald in his book. Whenever a new Referencing G...

Hi Nick, Yes, it's the Fact created I would like to change so it doesn't appear in the Property Box as a Census. Feeling a bit dim, here, but where would I do that? First, I did go to the KB this time, but what I found there didn't match what I'm seeing on my screen. I'd like to set up the Electoral Register option to appear as such in FH, instead of as Census and though I tried to follow the KB instructions, it's not working. I do the same as Chris - if you use a Windows computer, Ctrl-Shift-v is the keyboard shortcut to paste as plain text. When I copy from a web page (FMP mostly) I tend to use Copy as Plain Text (not sure now if thats from a copy paste addon). The reason being it avoids copying some invisible formating...

Good idea to copy into a separate collection. Thanks for the suggestion! I would like to export a list of my Source Templates as sorted by Update date. I know how to view the list, but can't figure out how to export it - is there a way? Why would I like to do this?
