Re: GRO BMD Index Citations
Ah, ok... For my blog posts, I prefer something more complete... Great option for those who don't use formal citations and just want the information recorded in their FH project

Re: Residence date range help
I only do it in the case where I have other corroborating evidence for the entire period... In the case of Sarah Keel, she was noted in the Parish Chest records for each year as paying into the poor relief fund. I suspect she was in Stourmouth earlier, but I only used the dates for which I had evide...

Re: Residence date range help
I do use a Residence date range that doesn't give me the date phrase prompt...See example below. Of course, I'm far from a super user, so others may have better suggestions. And yes, her birth surname was the same as her husband - I've yet to find the exact connection.

Re: Oddity on Descendants Left to Right chart...
Thanks, Lorna, for the additional information. I was going for a minimalist chart for a blog post, hence the spare text scheme. At least now I know. And, in the end, even with only people's dates, the chart was really too big for my post. Live and learn! Teresa, I see you are using a text scheme in ...

Re: Oddity on Descendants Left to Right chart...
Not quite. Mary Ann had a blank marriage (unlinked)...but Raymond was married twice to two different people - at least now I know what it means, so it's a clue to check the marriage facts. Thanks :) I think you may have two marriage events for those people, i.e. they are married twice to the same pe...

Oddity on Descendants Left to Right chart...
I generated this chart this morning and noted that a couple of people appear duplicated. At first I thought I had duplicate Individual records, but that's not the case. What have I done wrong to make this happen?
Thanks...
Thanks...

Re: Essential source templates not to standard?
Ok - will look into doing that. My templates are not as pretty as the more experienced users, but they do get the job done (at least for me) and may help others.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Essential source templates not to standard?
I didn't realize I could publish templates to the KB - I will look into that. And yes, Macdonald's book doesn't match the Strathclyde Referencing Guide. His style is a tad spare. I always add more information and my templates (modified from the Essentials templates) do have more fields for additiona...

Re: Ancestors by Generation
Glad to know I was right that it had something to do with the fact sentence, but missed that it was the General Event... Something I need to keep in mind too. <SNIP> The explanation for that narrative sentence is that the Fact Type definition for the General Event is missing or needs refining. Use T...

Re: Ancestors by Generation
Interesting. I just generated an Ancestors by Generation report and that phrase definitely doesn't appear anywhere. Looking at my grandmother's Property box and then the text of the generated report, it appears most of the narrative comes from the Fact Sentences (they appear at the bottom of the Pro...

Hi Norman, Thanks for the update. I'll test it again soon :) Teresa <SNIP> Thanks for trying this out. I knew the help screen would be too large, hence I put it in a scrolled text box; I should have thought this may be too large as well. Hopefully this will work for you. Calico Pie have already post...

Re: Simple Marriage Certificate Plugin
Oops - forgot I could have tried Alt-F4. I look forward to testing the version with the scroll bar. I'm helping someone I know to move her tree to FH and might consider suggesting the plug-in to her. <SNIP> Apologies for this - I tend to use ALT F4 to kill the top most window. In this case it may ha...

Re: Simple Marriage Certificate Plugin
Hi Normie, While I generally prefer and use Ancestral Sources, I decided to give your plugin a test. Alas, it failed for me. I use a 17" Win10 Pro laptop, yet the display on your plugin ran off the top and bottom of the page and effectively froze FH for me, forcing me to kill it using Task Mana...

Re: filling out a source template
I agree with everything Gary said. One note of caution - over the years I've discovered that Ancestry doesn't always get the Reference number correct in some of its Source of source listings - sometimes they lead to an entirely different church register. I now routinely check the catalogue of the ho...

Re: For citation nerds
Given we share a border, it's criminal how much it costs to send stuff across it. Helen Osborn is one UK author who writes good genealogy books - Genealogy: Essential Research Methods (2012) and Our Village Ancestors (2021). I have the former and am hoping to get the latter sometime this year. Helen...

Re: Monumental Inscriptions - thoughts?
I should also add that I have real trouble with abstract thinking, so I can't really provide much input until a new version is published and I can try it out. Thoughts on all of the above would be much appreciated. Of course as always AS will be very flexible and allow for the user to format these a...

Yep, you're right. Re: Monumental Inscriptions - thoughts?
I'm fine with Monumental inscription. I guess for instances where two people share a headstone, but died on different dates (generally the case), I would just enter each separately and just link the same media image. For women, it's tricky as I want it to link to her main record, which has her birth...

Screenshots might prove helpful in this situation, so Jane and Mike can see what you're doing. I have clicked on the cog wheel and selected add row. All that happens is it asks me to select a name, then tells me that name doesn’t exist to select a new one, when I do I just get a big plus sign, and t...

Re: Deleting extraneous fact types
Thanks, Mike... At this point, going through and updating all those profiles is a work in progress, so no, they haven't all been deleted in the Individual records at this point. I've deleted a couple from the Fact Type list with no discernible harm to the Individual records (for individuals at the o...
