Re: Citing English Census

I agree with Adrian - include the RG element as well. While it's true that, using your citation as below, if someone is looking at Ancestry rather than FMP, they can also find the same person (I did it pretty quickly - just put the Schedule Number in Keyword), it's still best practice to include the...

Re: Marriage Input Screen lacks {DateREGISTERED}

What awful news... I'll be the first to say, however, that while in general I refuse to pay a yearly subscription for software, in the case of AS, I would be willing to do so if it meant you could keep the software in development. It's such a boon for my workflow. That said, I realize you may not ge...

Re: Find My Past hints - 1921 census hints

I don't bother subscribing to Deceased Online - I just buy credits from time to time. Every once in a while they have a special offer where you get 2 for 1. I've found burial records there I couldn't access anywhere else. <SNIP> I discovered a website this week that I wasn't previously aware of - de...

All depends on your perspective - I find Canada and the US way more confusing, as the majority of my experience is with English records :D

If you really want confusing, try citing Polish records!!

It all goes back to her usual line "Citation is an art, not a science." I thought the example I linked to was pretty clear, but as you know, her style isn't what I use for just the reasons you've outlined. Obviously I missed something. Re: ESM's answers on her forum. I think that she wants...

While I'm not allowed to sign the petition (I live in Canada and am Canadian), I have sent feedback via email. It's an atrocious proposal.

Well that's nifty!! I just added one to my 2nd great-uncle's profile. FH and its flexibility never ceases to amaze me. Thanks so much for sharing!! <SNIP> You have to create the Media record first, then with the note open for editing, go to Add Link > Add More Links > Add Link to Media Record...

Re: Trying to import Census Reference info for use in FTAnalyzer

I have often found errors in the Ancestry citations for various record offices and archives - I've learned now to ALWAYS double check with the original repository. <SNIP> As an aside , the TNA references aren't the only ones to cause problems - I think the space-or-not issue affects other catalogues...

Census grid auto text for Institution?

I have found my 2nd great-grandfather at Banstead in 1891 (I knew he was there from other records, just hadn't found the census entry until recently). The auto-text will be different, however. Has anyone already created a template I can use? I'm happy to create my own if necessary and share, just fi...

I feel your pain - I've been where you are now. In October 2022, Nick very kindly typed out an AS workflow for me - see this post: https://www.fhug.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?p=128788#p128788 Once I worked through as Nick suggested, I finally understood how to effective use AS and haven't looked bac...

And you did a great job. I will definitely point people towards your method and book as a resource. As you say, it can be awful when people give up on citation because it overwhelms them. Had I been at a beginner stage, I could well see myself using your method. <SNIP> Of course, one of my own goals...

I have really enjoyed watching the progress of this issue and how it's been diagnosed. Hope that there may be a solution at some point!

Me too!!! While I'm now used to editing a template, going through Compare/Sync, then viewing the source, noting changes that need to be made, rinsing and repeating, it would be so much easier to have a sample to view within the template editor, with values. With Mike's suggested amendment, I'm happy...

So happy to hear that Mike's solution works for you :) That's what I love about FH - it's so versatile and can be adapted no matter what methods we want to use. It seems that moving all the defined Fields into the Source Record offers the same Footnote, Bibliography, etc. All the same Field details ...

Re: Simple Citations Templates for Family Historian 7

I should have been more explicit - yes. For me even unticking the citation box didn't work because I have very specific needs for my citation format and soon realized that the "simple" format didn't give me what I wanted. For those who aren't as fussy as I am, then doing as you say should ...

£32??? Are they kidding?

Wow! Absolutely no way!

I'm in Canada, so I'm sure it's about the same to get it here.

I might look at getting the pdf as I can load it onto my Kobo.

I agree with Helen - learn more about FH before starting with AS. When I first bought FH I used it for some small projects so I could get used to how it worked.
