Re: Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings via Windows Plugin Error
That seems to be the correct area, but I can't reproduce the error. Background - the current version uses a more complex method for working out which files to backup, as the original version was not 100% Unicode compliant across the full range of Windows/WINE and FH6/FH7 combinations. Could you down...

Thanks for reporting that Brent. I’ll look into it later today when I’m back at the desk.

Re: FH7 on Linux?
Most Linux distributions use Firefox as the default browser. It is generally regarded as much more privacy-focused than Google/Chrome. There are also plenty of native Linux e-mail apps, so you can dispense with Google altogether. If you stick with Windows just for FH, there are plenty of things you ...

Re: FH7 on Linux?
You could start by reading Running Family Historian on Wine . It needs to be reviewed and updated, as both FH and WINE are moving targets, but bottom line is that it works, but with limitations. It’s difficult to give specific advice without knowing what else you use your PC for, your level of exper...

Re: Source Generic > Template
Mike’s analysis is correct. If you have a consistent structure for your Generic Source citations, converting them to Templated Sources is not technically very difficult, but it cannot be a general solution. It has to be tailed to your citations and template structure. I went through exactly this exe...

Re: Copy Sources between Projects - New Draft Plugin
I think this is the first time that I’ve posted a draft but had zero response on either the principle of what the plugin is doing or how it does it in practice. Rather than leaving it here where visibility is probably the main limitation, I’ve uploaded a virtually unchanged script to the Plugin Stor...

No further issues have been raised, so the plugin is now available in the Plugin Store, and includes an updated help file.

Re: Backup files
Speaking for myself, I’ve never run an FH backup, and don’t anticipate ever doing so. What else on your PC needs backing up? Personal documents? Family photos? My FH data and media are part of my routine backups (three copies of different age - cloud, NAS and external HDD), so all I need to do in FH...

Re: Export Gedcom Plugin support for Gedkeeper
Not an application that I am familiar with, but I set it up on my Linux box to see how it managed importing the generic GEDCOM file and media from the draft Export Public GEDCOM File plugin. Basic tree data seemed ok, but it didn't support importing the media. It creates OBJE records ok, but seems t...

Re: Export Public GEDCOM File - new plugin draft
I have now updated the draft plugin to version 0.5 and updated the link in the first post in this thread. Export Public GEDCOM File.png The automatic removal of private individuals and related information has been tweaked to make it more thorough. This automatic editing of a tree on the fly is one o...

Re: Exporting to RM10 using EXPORT GEDCOM plugin
It’s a common misconception that GEDCOM enables transfer of detailed trees between different apps. Leaving aside the basic who, what, where and when that generally transfer well, there are probably more differences than compatibilities between apps. That’s why we always advise that FH is the master,...

Re: A new Ancestral Sources launcher...?
Early adopters are much more likely to be contributors to this thread who want to try it out. I've got a couple of other pending updates to process so I'll do them all together in a week or two rather than rush one now only for something else to crop up straight after !

Re: Ancestral Sources Data Entry - won't run after changing FH projects path
My logic would be that general plugin settings are saved in the system plugin data folder, so we are only talking about project-specific settings. A standalone GEDCOM file is not a project by definition, so do not either load or save project-specific settings when not running in a project. The FH ti...

Re: A new Ancestral Sources launcher...?
There is very much a consensus view here that having two parallel store plugins that perform virtually the same function, but just have different names and menus, is counter-productive. However, having read all the different use cases and suggestions offered here, I am persuaded that a plugin that s...

Re: Ancestral Sources Data Entry - won't run after changing FH projects path
Sorry, didn't reply earlier as I wanted to play some more before passing on details. It happens when there is no defined GEDCOM file, so can be replicated simply by File > Gedcom File Tasks > New Gedcom File, then calling the plugin prior to the file being saved. AS doesn't have a "create GEDCO...

Re: How FH7 license keys workt
The inner workings of FH7 licencing are a mystery to me (and while CP will hopefully give you individually tailored advice, they are unlikely to discuss details of exactly how it works in my experience). I know from personal experience that if you reimage the same hardware, you have to re-nominate t...

Re: A new Ancestral Sources launcher...?
Brief question - I thought this thread might provoke a good discussion, so thanks to folks for chipping in. Re: A new Ancestral Sources launcher...?
Compared to the thousands of downloads for my plugin the number of users reporting being confused is tiny. There does not seem to be an overwhelming demand from users for the new plugin name. IMO compared to all the other FH & AS features that could be improved it is not worth the effort. Worth...

That's correct. The OEM licence is tied to the motherboard. The more expensive retail licence does not have that restriction.

Re: A new Ancestral Sources launcher...?
That's what the KB page is for Trevor. I'm not sure such a short and simple plugin is worth adding to the store, but the KB gives the code for doing it yourself. Step by step instructions are in this thread a few posts back for users unfamiliar with the FH plugin editor.
