Re: i need inspiration as well, and some clever coding

drew it out on a bar napkin, and came to the same conclusion....
however that leads to a DotSort(R, HUNTINGTON, UD)
innit?
and sorting by dots is kind of 80s. cat fields are cat fields, and what really discourages me, if you convert them to floats, it cant even sort them correctly.

Re: clever coding (Maths again)

I need some maths expertise again I need a table sorted in this order, in LUA I have it sorted just as it should be in a spreadsheet, however cannot do the same in LUA d'Aboville dotrmv name 1.2.2.1.8.4.1.1.1.5.1 12218411151 SIBLEY, Nellie E. 1.2.2.1.8.4.1.1.1.5.2 12218411152 SIBLEY, Olive Minnesota...

fundamental loop

I am missing something so fundamental here, I am absolutely brain dead from staring and debugging this simple problem: simple psuedocode: get this.INDI for FAMS do for CHIL do count CHIL enddo CHIL enddo FAMS end this.INDI return child count actual code function rtvCHILCount(eptr) local thisPTR = ep...

Re: Grumble - Gender requirement

they CLAIM to be, is the operative word here. They allow HUSB HUSB and WIFE WIFE FAM records, as a trivial example, not the standard. Mormons will probably never allow that real world situation in their standard.

Re: unconfuse the confusing.

Yes, it didnt look like a one step process, but it is worth doing, because of down the road programming simplicity. I thought it would go something like that, if you remember my cemetery list, where I was getting cemetery in one table, address and interments in another, and cutting them all out in o...

unconfuse the confusing.

please dont rattle on about associative arrays, which have no guaranteed ordering... I understand the tables are presently keyed by arrival order. I have tables ahnentafel, indiPTR, generation, their keys are obviously 1..n but the values are not in "order" (that being the order I WANT) so...

I may need help expressing this. but lets take a stylized tree diagram and orient it like a tree: ............................................. < tree tops (each dot an INDI) .......................................... ..................................... <and so on> . < root as MY lowest descedant ...

Re: i need inspiration as well, and some clever coding

LOL, no-- truthfully I did not. You are an admin, are you not? Don't know if you peruse the logs much, but I was trying to customize all my settings, and was having a devil of a time with the posting display and order, the reset didnt seem to work, and it was somewhere in the virtual pixel order. I ...

gens.png the numbers to the right are sort of a belongs to helper. anbr(text) , (code) at = ahnentafel number you will observe in my code that I take care of the current missing INDIS anbrs at line 24, however I do not take care of their future missing generations anbrs, and the accounting of anbrs...

Re: i need inspiration as well, and some clever coding

This one requires maths. I have abandoned the table entry per ancestor, the table is huge. So, I am going the ahnentafel number skipping and incrementing route, from which one should be able to derive the needed information simply and algorithmically. yet, in the direct line, I will keep unknown hus...

Re: i need inspiration as well, and some clever coding

I have most of the logic worked out in my ahentafel style pointer table. first some remarks before the problem statement, so you can follow the FAMC logic I have. rtvFAMPtr(*indi ptr) if there is only one famc record in the indi, it doesnt matter if it is an adopt, or foster or anything else, that i...

Re: i need inspiration as well, and some clever coding

SetNull is what I have decided to do, since it will always be a pointer table of some type of pointers. I understand in the real ahnentafel world that people who are not in the gedcom are simply skipped, but programatically it makes a great deal more sense to put their null placeholders and ahentafe...

Re: i need inspiration as well, and some clever coding

yes that is what I want. a slight change perhaps I wasn't clear: if I can code this clearer or faster, I am open to instruction. (my main takeaway here is that I can now build and use a pointer table.) first few rows of the tables so you can see whats going on as well: alist => (table .204) [3721] =...

Re: i need inspiration as well, and some clever coding

Yes, I am aware of the fraught with dispair situations. Insofar as my limited information goes, in 1870-1871 The City of London never sailed from other than Liverpool or the Irish port just above it (whose name I cannot recall) on UK to US voyages. As I have said, I saw a manifest for Ellis Island b...

I believe we both understand that. Were I so lucky that I had relatives who were forthcoming with actual squirreled away photos, documents and whatnot, I would have much of that. i need inspiration as well, and some clever coding

being massively dissatisfied with birth and death date estimations, I am trying to write a fairly lightweight chunk that will do some cooking on dates. what I hope is that there is a way to glean several dates that will sort of coalesce around a reasonable range: for instance: gen 0: I have me, no b...

non-complex table on the fly.

rmn = string.sub(fhGetTag(ptrWork), 1, 1) table.insert(tblRMN, rmn) This is a slice of my matCEM function...It does a lot of stuff. Many times, one may only need a table or two out of its many tables. so, I know I have seen tatewise do this when perusing his code and never understood it, and I cann...
