Re: Multiple copies of Family Historian - caution!
OneDrive is a little opaque about its rules. I do use it, though for Family Historian I sync to my own Cloud hosted on my NAS and available over the internet. I like this way of working as my sync client is a bit noisy and makes it clear when it is syncing. I do find it helps to power up my laptop b...

FH is windows only, unless you want to try the Wine environment. You may struggle. Have you tried to install?

As long as you don’t use simultaneously. I do it all the time. There are guides on synchronisation here, I use cloud storage, there are other options.

Re: One Drive and Family Historian
All of my backups go to 3 external hard drives. My working copy of my Project file resides on my computer’s hard drive, and, gets backed up to my external hard drives on a nearly daily basis. I would never trust an Internet storage site for keeping my working copy of my FH project file, or, as a ba...

I had spotted similar problems running, which now seem fixed (on a quick comparison with a report from yesterday). Thanks very much!

Re: Getting rid of Parallels. What do you use?
I use WIne on my Macbook to get FH and AS - it's a near perfect solution for me, though I have some oddities as much down to screen size (13inch) as the implementation. I have found it breaks sometimes if wine falls out of sync with other changes (eg to xcode) when MacOs changes happen. This may all...

Re: Findmypast hints
Might this be similar to a (minor) problem I have? I have a local cloud holding my FH project and am running FH and AS at the same time as I enter several sets of data. Whenever I make and update in FH, AS always seems to spot, whereas sometimes when I update in AS, Fh doesn't realise and I have to ...

There was a new post on their FaceBook page in the last day, and no mention if any problems. You get lots of warnings before DNS expires, I suspect this is a technical issue somewhere

Re: Chrome says "not secure" web site
There's plenty of information on the web about this - from this article https://www.engadget.com/2018/02/08/google-chrome-68-http-sites-not-secure-label/ in February 2018 it seems Google decided to increase pressure on sites to migrate, and started putting out more warnings. I read it may get even n...

Re: Plugins/macros
Can't you make a series of short codes, eg |Fr| for Francois then use the search and replace plugin? It's not perfect and macros would be great for lots of repetitive data entry problems (eg clicking multiple menu keys).

Have you seen the entry on Find A Grave: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/14591907?
It looks like Spalding Nicholas died age 81 in West Virginia. It's from somebody's research, with some references, but obviously I've not checked the details

Re: Getting The Most from Family Historian 6 now available
That's a good call on the v5 edition - I've only ever used the most obvious data entry features, am only now looking at queries and plugins, and have no (immediate) need to make a website or a book from my tree. These things may change of course!

Re: Getting The Most from Family Historian 6 now available
I just saw this book on Amazon - I see there was a flurry of interest here when it came out, I wondered if, now time has passed, people would recommend it to someone with some experience of FH but still only scraping the surface, or is FHUG enough for me to learn from?

Re: How to Enter Place Data for England?
A parish is the relevant smallest unit of place, with parishes being collected into hundreds (something to do with area I seem to remember) and hundreds make up a county. In general in the UK, a place is city/town/village , county, country, so Reading (where I live) is Reading, Bershire, England. In...

I've seen that sort of error on hosted blogs when they crash and reboot for reasons known only to themselves, or when a cloud provider needs to flex capacity too quickly. If they go away I tend to put them down to serendipity

Re: Show Project Statistics question
So, it turns out the delete option from the menu doesn't work but if I use Fn + Delete on my keyboard it does the trick. I'll put that mostly down to user inability to use their Macbook keyboard, but also a confusing interface - there's no obvious way to (eg click right in the all tab) to delete an ...

Re: Show Project Statistics question
That's what I thought I'd tried and got the error message about nothing to delete! It's as though the focus hasn't moved into the property/ all tab. I'm using Wine on a Macbook, I'll try later under Windows 10 / Parallels / iMac.
I'm sure it's something really obvious I'm missing!

Re: Show Project Statistics question
Mike, I should have said I have read the help, looked on the All Tab and that's why I posted. When I select the item on the All Tab it has a Birth item and when I expand the + the exception is with the last line "Parents Family". When I select the line highlighted (Parents Family) and try delete fro...
