Re: Source and Citation Sentence Editing

Mike, Thank you for all your time and explanations on this topic. However, given the amount of time it will take me to just set things right in FH, and some very convoluted processes in comparison to what I am used to in TMG, I have decided to abandon FH for the second time. There is nothing in FH t...

Re: Source and Citation Sentence Editing

Mike, One more question. How do I delete a user generated source completely. I was experimenting with creating specific source/citations for my project. I created a source/citation template, decided I did not like the results, and then deleted that source/citation template and started over. When I c...

Re: Source and Citation Sentence Editing

Mike, Thank you very much for that code and suggestions. I have another question related to the sources tab on the records page. There is a column titled "Template" and in all my generic sources it is empty. If I right-click on a source record name I can apply a template. If I define the t...

Re: Source and Citation Sentence Editing

Because I am new to the program I may have my terminology wrong. I have checked out my sources and you are correct - the information is there but when it is used in reports it does not come out the way I would like to express it. If I go to source template definition>new I can create a new source ty...

Re: Source and Citation Sentence Editing

I was meaning - create generic source record/prepare citation feature I believe. Since a large number of my source/citations come from one or two sources (my largest is 25K records) it would seem to be a real time saver if I could import those into a create generic source record/prepare citation tem...

Re: Source and Citation Sentence Editing

Thanks for that. Next question, is there a way to take specific generic sources/citations and import them into a custom source/citation and then reconstruct the various sentences - in more simple terms turn a generic template into a custom template?

Source and Citation Sentence Editing

When I imported my TMG project all of the sources were imported into a "generic" category. I would like to take my generic source/citation items and work on the sentence structure that is used to create the biblio, footnotes, etc. Is there a way to do that?

Possessive surnames

What is the sentence code for making a person's surname possessive as in the sentence - Mr. Smith's second marriage. Can anyone help? Also where can I find a reference for all of the sentence codes and examples?

Re: FH Citations and ORA

I just created my first generic source/citation template and then used that to create my first new source and citation. I have tested it out and thus far it appears to meet my needs and be compatible with ORA. My next job is to re-write some of my ORA templates to remove some of the formatting that ...

FH Citations and ORA

I have been using the product Online Research Assistant (ORA) created by John Cardinal. It greatly speeds up the generation of sources and citations for those websites that have an ORA capability. If one uses Ancestry for example, you need only create a boilerplate source once based on the source ID...

Producing a Book

I am a TMG user and just today, imported all of my data from TMG into FH. I have 15 generations in my family tree and about 55K people and 18K exhibits. At this point I continue to improve my research and prepare the output. My approach has been to collect all the facts, write individual sentences f...

Re: Sources and Citations

I have been doing genealogical research for about 40 years now and I have gone through many transitions in my approach to recording the information I have collected. I am not a big fan of the "Mills" method of recording sources, but I do try to adhere to them as closely as possible without...

Sources and Citations

I have brought this topic up previously but did not find an adequate solution to the issue - at least one that suited me. In retrospect, I may have been asking too much or been too regimented. So for this topic I want to give an example and ask those people who have been using FH for a long time to ...

Re: TMG Import into FH 6.2.7

After ruminating about this issue for a few hours, I have come to the conclusion that the simplest approach would be to modify the the sentence structure with a simple text note annotation similar to this example: < {=GetLabelledText(%FACT.NOTE2%,"note1: ")} > modified for the godparents <...

Re: TMG Import into FH 6.2.7

Thanks Mike, That will work for me and helps with my general education in FH. I will add those to my repertoire. Re: TMG Import into FH 6.2.7

Re: TMG Import into FH 6.2.7

Bear in mind that the church records were the official record records for saving souls and so the focus was on the baptismal ...

Re: TMG Import into FH 6.2.7

That thought about the birth fact did occur to me after I posted the note. I checked TMG and it was indeed being output as a an Event. I changed it and then re-imported my database. It seems to have fixed the problem. I thank you for your help on that issue. As for the concatenation issue, in TMG yo...

Re: TMG Import into FH 6.2.7

It has taken some time to carry out some pruning of my TMG database and doing several direct imports into FH in an attempt to understand the process. TMG Import into FH 6.2.7

In preparation for the release of FH 7 I have been conducting some experiments on importing my data from TMG into FH6. I Quit FH for TMG

This is the second time that I have installed and tried to make sense of FH. As I long time user of TMG I just found things so much easier to use, enter, manipulate, report, etc., etc., etc in TMG - perhaps because TMG is a true relational database not ham-stringed by the GEDCOM model. There are som...

Re: Rearrange Address and Place Parts Plugin - usage

Ok, I upgraded to 1.5.1. I then selected 5 items from the filter and did a simple move first field to address and shift all the place fields one to the left. The program ran but after more than 20 min it was still performing the task - on 5 place/address lines. Then all the screens except the FH mai...

Re: Rearrange Address and Place Parts Plugin - usage

I am running version 1.5, the only one in the plugin store that I can see. I have the latest version of FH 6.2.7. The program crashes without any error messages. I am running Win 10 with the latest updates and service packs. It seems to work fine on the sample project.
