Re: Reports for Visits to Cemeteries

Since you have a laptop, why not install FH and copy your Project there? It's a work laptop. Also, I do work in Lightroom and export images to my FH project media folder. Also, multi screens on my desktop. By mobile device, I mean an iPad or Android tablet that supports a number of free genealogy a...

Re: Reports for Visits to Cemeteries

Yes, that is the method to use, but I would be tempted to produce Individual Summary Reports or Family Group Sheets that present the details in a more compact tabulated format than Narrative Reports. OK, now that I know the technique, I can play around with what reports would be most helpful. If yo...

Re: Reports for Visits to Cemeteries

OK, follow-up question: It would be nice to read a little about the person once we've found them in the cemetery, so is there a way to generate a report (e.g. Publish > Narrative Reports > Individual Narrative Report > Multiple Individuals) for individuals in the query result set? One way I found wa...

Re: Reports for Visits to Cemeteries

That worked great... exactly what I was looking for!

I added the Address column to the default report since that's what had the actual cemetery name and address.

Reports for Visits to Cemeteries

We are planning to visit an area where we know at least a couple of relatives are buried, at a cemetery we know about. But I'd also like to know about relatives that might be buried close to the area we're visiting. I know I can build a report that lists people at "Bob's Cemetery", but I'm...

Re: How To Modify Fact Set

...the Military Service attribute in the Extended Set was not created by you as it is normally part of the Extended Set installed by FH. So you did not need to Copy it to the Custom Fact Set.... all the facts in the Extended Set are custom facts just the same as all those in the Custom Fact Set... ...

Re: How To Modify Fact Set

It's probably worth a brief summary of how Fact Set files are structured, as this move is actually fairly straightforward if you understand the content of the Fact Set files. Each file starts with an [.index] section that lists the various Facts defined in that file.... Mark, thanks so much for the...

Re: How To Modify Fact Set

If you show Hidden facts, you'll probably see that the original Military Service fact is still present in the Extended set, but has been 'eclipsed' by the one in the Custom Set. Yep! You're right: if I tick the Show Hidden box, my copied Custom attribute is the one in use; the original Extended Set...

Re: How To Modify Fact Set

If you are a "tinkerer" who wants to know what FH is doing behind the scenes, don't be scared of diving in and having a play. Thanks for the details! I'm definitely a tinkerer. I've written some Python apps to do some mass changes on my GED file (long story) so no fear there. If I knew Lu...

Re: How To Modify Fact Set

Seems like I opened a can of worms! I thought switching between sets would be something fairly straightforward, but it sounds like there some "gotchas" that make it a little more complicated than at first glance. I thought I had created the Military Service fact, but it was a while ago so ...

How To Modify Fact Set

I created a custom fact (attribute) called "Military Service" and assigned it to the "Extended Set" Fact Set. I meant to assign it to the "Custom" Fact Set, but didn't notice until after I'd used it for many people. I'd like to just edit the Fact Type and change the Fac...

Re: Source templates and websites

I think I may have figured this out.... When you "Add Citation", and select a Source Template Definition as your source, it uses that definition to create a new Source Template Record that's tied to that specific thing your citing. So using a Source Template Definition for 5 citations mean...

Re: Source templates and websites

Yeah, I saw that but I couldn't find a reference of all the fields that were available. For example, the Help mentioned that you can use {%CUR~CITN...%}, but it wasn't clear what data fields were available for that reference. For example, how do I know that {%CUR~CITN.PAGE%} and {%CUR~CITN.DATA.DATE...

Re: Source templates and websites

I am just starting to explore the templates in FH7, and I really love the idea. But I started with the Newspaper template, and immediately ran into the "splitter" / "lumper" conundrum. I understand why you would want to have a separate source record for each citation, i.e. "...

Re: Where Did AS Data Entry Plugin Go?

That's the old Knowledge base but I know there'll be some old links to it that may need to be updated. Which link did you use to get to that? Honestly, I'm not sure how I got to that KB article... I think I just did a search in the FHUG. The new KB article looks good, and the new plugin is now show...

Where Did AS Data Entry Plugin Go?

I'm just wondering what happened to the "Ancestral Sources Data Entry" plugin. After upgrading to FH7 (and AS7), the plugin was marked as "Disabled". When I went to the Plugin Store to see if an upgrade was available, the plugin isn't on the store at all, for any version. The FHU...

Re: Remove Wrong Ancestor - Split Tree Helper Help?

Ah, gotcha! The Media Records Link column indicates how many other records in FH are using that particular Media Record. Zero indicates the Media Record is "orphaned". The plugin Check for Unlinked Media finds (and optionally deletes) actual hard drive files that don't have an associated M...

Re: Remove Wrong Ancestor - Split Tree Helper Help?

Provided that the (correct) grandparent, and any of his (correct) siblings, have already been unlinked from the (incorrect) great-grandparents... deleting or exporting any remaining descendants of the incorrect grandparents is OK because they are not part of the correct family. Yes, that is exactly...

Remove Wrong Ancestor - Split Tree Helper Help?

I made a mistake in who my great-grandfather was, and want to delete everything about the wrong person. Initially, I thought it was John Q. Smith, so I entered him, his children, and a whole bunch of ancestors. I also entered his wife, Sally Q. Jones, and all of her ancestors. I later then found out...

Re: AS Plug-In Doesn't Launch AS - Hangs with Blank Screen

You might be right about something in the transferred settings. I uninstalled everything, and re-installed from scratch... but this time I didn't do anything except install the AS plug-in. Sure enough it worked. I then opened my own project file, and it still worked. Then, I manually transferred ove...

Re: AS Plug-In Doesn't Launch AS - Hangs with Blank Screen

Thanks again, Mike! So I'm not sure what to do here. Is there a debug log file or something that gets written out? Otherwise I may just have to use AS using the manual "Open FH Project" way. I uninstalled and re-installed AS and FH (in that order) on the new computer, and followed the migr...

Re: AS Plug-In Doesn't Launch AS - Hangs with Blank Screen

Oh, also... you mentioned something about screen resolution?

Just FYI when I built the new PC, I pulled the graphics card out of the old PC and plugged in the exact same monitors. So the new PC has the same graphics card, same monitors, same resolution as the old. Don't know if that helps or not.

Re: AS Plug-In Doesn't Launch AS - Hangs with Blank Screen

Thanks, Mike! Still no go, though. I tried to start with a clean slate, and deleted the current plugin from FH and deleted the "Ancestral Sources Data Entry.dat" file. I then downloaded and installed the new plugin. The first time I ran it, it opened what looked to be a revision history. I...
