Re: Source / Citations for Alternate Names

Apologies for the late reply Adrian. Yes the example you quoted (married two or more times) is the reason why I raised the question. I'm trying a new approach to very strictly cite sources and names feature strongly in that new approach. Fortunately, I don't have that many instances of this, so not ...

Re: Tools or Tips for Patterns in Research Data

Sincere apologies for the late response. Thank you everyone who replied. I'm digesting your comments now. I guess what I was asking is if there is any software tools or manual techniques that might look for and spot patterns of behaviour like being born at an address that coincidently other linked a...

Tools or Tips for Patterns in Research Data

Evening Forum Does anyone have any special techniques for looking at patterns in their research data once in FH? I'm talking moreso about places and address. I know there is data available for what event occurred at each of these and Mapping can assist with this also. But are there any wizards who h...

Re: Source / Citations for Alternate Names

Thank you Mike. I was hoping you would say that as trying to keep a handle on all possible surname changes would be difficult. It was the marriage and death that made me think what do others do and what is best practice.

Whole record citation Query

Could someone please give me a head start with a query that would fetch all citations attached to all Individuals > Whole Record.

Thank you.

Thank you Helen, Mike and Mark
Your input has pushed me on further with this Surety topic. I think I now have a strong and structured approach I can start to use.

Thank you all

Re: Individual Surety

Hi Helen

I like that approach - particulary the leave it to the reader idea. Keep it simple. I've spent hours over this trying to come up with some scientific or software driven method to handle it. I do tend to over analyze things.

Thank you very much.

Individual Surety

Hi All I'm working on my Genealogy - Re Do... A complete rekey of my Database revisting why I did this a certain way and where did this come from, etc. I'm in need of some inspiration on how best to 'mark' ancestor individuals both close and distant in a way that can throw some weight as in Surety o...

Re: Definition and Use of Whole Record Citation

Thanks Helen, Yes I see how you use it. I have done similar but using the Individuals 'Name' to attach the Citation. I think you have aptly defined Whole Record, because it is more than just a Name. Thank you very much.

Hi Forum, I can't find any explicit help or guidance on Whole Record Citation. What is it and when/how to use it?

Thank you.

Hi Forum, What does this Validate function actually do? I run it very often and it never reports back any errors. That's a good thing I know but how often should I run it?

Thanks

Re: Ancestral Sources Version 5.3.0

Hi Nick
I have not encountered any problems with it over the years since late 2016, and have used it extensively for all Source Types available within it. So as you say should be okay for general use.

Re: AS download

If it helps - some mods were to do with How a Deceased Father's Occupation was handled when entered from a Marriage Certificate. How the date was entered in the Father's Occupation Fact. That's all I can remember sorry.

Re: AS download

Hi Nick, you created 5.3.0 way back on requests for specific mods I made to you. I had been using 5.3.0 for some years now. But my laptop crashed recently and I had to reinstall everything. But I could only find 5.2.0 on FHUG. As I had forgotten what the mods were, I decided to use 5.2.0. Then today...

Re: Ancestral Sources Version 5.3.0

Probably not - he built that version with requests from me. I noticed someone using 5.3.0 today when discussing ORA in another group and I asked him where he downloaded from. Then I found the confusion shown here.

Hi Nick the page where you download the latest version still refers to 5.2.0, but when clicking the link 5.3.0 is available.

Re: Census Page 1 info - how to record it and use it?

@Ann - That method for searching by County, Parish and District number I found very useful, so easy to find what you are looking for once you have the Page 1 details at hand. I'll certainly be recording this data going forward.

Thank you Ann/All

Hi Mervyn and Ann. Thank you both for your posts. All views welcome. Ann I'm particularly interested in your example of how to use the ED along with County and Parish. I'll take a look at this.

Thank you both

Re: Census Page 1 info - how to record it and use it?

Hi All, I did post more replies but they seem to have gone missing, so sorry if you miss a reply to your comment, but thanks to everyone for your help with this. I'll just use the Page One image to support the actual census transcript for place and area covered.

Many thanks all.
