Re: Add calendar date to census entries
Thanks Mike. I do not have AS installed - I don't think I ever reinstalled it after the crash (I did not use it for regular inputs at the time). I think you're right in that I did use it to put the exact dates in. I will have another look at it, failing that I will use the find and replace method yo...

Add calendar date to census entries
I'm not sure whether this should be posted here or in the plugin forum. I am sure there was a plug-in to replace "1911" etc with the actual date of the census, as I have a large number of records with the correct date and recall running something to do this. It is possible I did this befor...

Re: Is it still possible to order a death certificate as a PDF??
Precisely. I have waited for about 3 months before making this order
I don't know what physical process is involved in producing a pdf from the digital database, but presumably they can do much/all of it remotely.

Re: Is it still possible to order a death certificate as a PDF??
I have just ordered 5 in 2 batches, 3 on 4th which took 2 days and 2 on 6th which took 3 (arriving on Sunday last) which I think is very impressive service.

Re: FH 6.2.7 Randomly closing
I find that, when using the external browser, the number of hints does not decrease unless you refresh them - or when you close and reopen the program

Re: FH 6.2.7 Randomly closing
I have just had the issue again - first time on new PC. I clicked on a hint (having viewed the image) to reject it and the program shut down: no warning or anything.

Re: FH 6.2.7 Randomly closing
I must say that I have also had the "oops we've hit a problem" message rather more recently, sometimes quite frequently, and nearly always when viewing hints in the web window. Usually, closing the window and trying again works, but it's still annoying and time-consuming.

Re: Recovering after a crash
Well new PC was delivered yesterday and this morning I have (I think successfully) backed up the settings from the version on my laptop and restored them to the new program on the new PC - I even managed to find my registration key :!: I haven't yet had time to have a detailed look, but I nthink all...

Re: FH 6.2.7 Randomly closing
Well for the time being, the issue is irrelevant for me, as I have a new pc - I will keep an eye out for if it happens again

Re: Findmypast hints
My FH projects folder was backed up nightly and I have restored that to my laptop. It is the file which is used day to day, not one produced by the export method above (which I have done in the past but am not sure where it was stored!) Yes, they both use the same credentials file (FH User credentia...

Re: Findmypast hints
I understand what you are saying, however I have not restored FH yet-I’ve had to order a new computer. Mind you, that might be a problem itself I do have FH installed on my laptop and I did check the “refresh internet data matches” box on that

Re: Findmypast hints
I have realised that when I started to try and update my sources was before the computer crashed, so it wouldn’t have been anything to do with a changed credentials file

Re: Findmypast hints
Have you checked the settings in Preferences as I suggested? (Apologies if this is too obvious!) From the FH help: "By default, Findmypast will only show matches that are 'new' -that is, matches that you have neither accepted nor rejected. However, you can opt to see accepted or rejected match...

Re: Findmypast hints
Firstly, have you reviewed the advice in how_to:internet_data_matches|> Internet Data Matches ? There are various refresh techniques suggested. You have been 17674|Recovering after a crash so that presumably needed FH to be reinstalled? So I wonder if your User Credentials have been upset and thus ...

Findmypast hints
I have recently started to try and catch up with citations. I download every document I find and save it on a cloud drive, but am remiss in that I don't always add sources to the record at the time. Anyway, I thought I'd start by ensuring I'd got the references for BMDs from the GRO by looking at ac...

Re: Recovering after a crash
Sorry to hear your problems Paul. What do you think you updated later than the 20th April? You have only reviewed the Individual records. Are you sure you updated any Individuals after 20th April? Check all the other Records Window tabs: Sources , Media , etc. Were any of those Updated more recentl...

Recovering after a crash
My desktop PC crashed on Sunday evening and, to cut a long story short, I have had to use a recovery drive to restore windows, thinking I would then be able to get at my data drive, but that is not recognised either. So I have turned to my backups of FH on a portable drive and imported the latest ba...

Re: FH 6.2.7 Randomly closing
Have you tried setting FH to NOT use the internal web page does this prevent the crashes? Not at the moment, as it hasn’t crashed since the time I wrote about it. If and when it next does, I plan to first reinstall FH and see what happens. I have used Firefox when the internal ms browser played up ...

Re: FH 6.2.7 Randomly closing
Mike, Thanks for your prompt reply. Answers within the quoted text below. I presume the reset you mention involves the Write Reg IE Shell Version Plugin. ( It would be useful to state such processes when you post. ) yes, sorry. Are there any error symptoms surrounding the FH shut downs ? e.g. Family...

FH 6.2.7 Randomly closing
Hi Over the last few months I have had occasions where FH has just shut down, usually after looking at a hint and/or recording that within the program. Since this started I have set it to save every 3 minutes, but I'm still losing the last entry or two I have made. Does anyone else have this trouble...

Re: Find my past hints
If the FH internal Web Search Window is misbehaving in various scenarios, then review the advice at how_to:internet_data_matches|> Internet Data Matches under Record Matching in last paragraph regarding Internet Explorer and using its Reset and a Plugin. Hi Mike, I have done that: I did have IE11 i...

Re: Find my past hints

Find my past hints
Has anyone else had trouble with accessing these? My FH decided to arbitrarily close last night (as it has been known to do randomly a few times) and when I reopened it I was unable to access hints, it just went to a blank web page. Mind you, when I can access them, if there is an image available fo...

Re: Alignment of all-relatives diagram
A further query (sorry!). I have changed the diagram style to flat. I have also played around with the proxy settings. Before I did that, I made the "duplicate boxes" hidden with the result below. Is there any way in which I can adjust the connecting line (dotted) between Margaret Liliam R...
