Re: Ancestry's 'new' hint system
Hi I agree with all of the above and a new look home page but more than anything which is making me increasingly to use FMP is that when you are on a census for example you press back and end up on the basic search page. I do think that Ancestry gives more census lists than FMP but having to remembe...

Yes, I don't even have Irish. My area of interest is England. I am not interested in foreign records. It is annoying when you do not even have the choice.

FMP ... Again
Hi I have just received an email from FMP to say that the British subscription is no longer available. The new subscription includes extra records, it did not mention newspapers. I will be informed when my subscription is due what the cost is. Am I being cynical in thinking that this is a way of the...

Thanks Adrian and Mike.
It crossed my mind that it had only happened since they changed the page layout.

FMP Images
Good morning I have recently been looking at images on FMP on a topic I am researching. I am not accessing FMP via Family Historian as it is not my family. I wondered if anyone else had experienced the same problem. It actually only happens on the odd occasion but it never happened before they jiggl...

Adrain,
I would definitely use f as it is just English people who hear f pronounced as v that they spell it with v.

I also add an unknown spouse, then the first married man becomes the second spouse. I have also had the problem with my gt grandmother, there was an unknown spouse first, then a husband and then another unknown spouse!

Re: FMP census and the 1939 register
I have complained bitterly about the film strip across the screen but last evening my friend and myself were trying to transcribe, (working on separate screens in our own homes but communicating over the phone) a 1602 will. I was moaning about the images when my friend said " yes but I am using...

Re: New computer
Thank you Adrian. I think that I will take your advice and not upgrade yet as I will probably, (knowing me!) have enough getting to grips with a new machine. I only thought about it as Matthew always does my upgrades and so I usually don't have any problems. I printed all the instructions off severa...

New computer
Hi On Wednesday I am having a new computer. I have a lovely young man who changes everything over for me. As he is doing this I was thinking that I would upgrade to version 7. I have my key to v6. My question is:- is it a good idea to install v7 on my old computer and then have it transferred to the...

Re: Media showing in focus window?
Hi I have a cover all source eg. 1911 census, which I attach to the person but I attach the image to the person so I can see at a glance the image from the media box I suppose I got into the habit at the very start as I found a very long list under the source off putting and have not changed. Probab...

Re: Media showing in focus window?
When you save the media image you get the choice of where the image appears. I do not know if it is still the same in v.7 but if I remember it is on the right hand side of the panel below the image box.

Re: FMP census and the 1939 register
I sent a complaint and received the same reply as David. I find the filmstrip intrusive when trying to see a whole record. I was looking at a parish register with a friend, she was on the other end of the phone looking at the same images. We were looking for several members of a family and also tryi...

Re: Invitation to a census
Hi
If you look at the history of the census the worry over "data protection" (wasn't called that then) has always been an objection to there being a census. this is why there wasn't one until 1801 and why there nearly wasn't one in 1951.

Re: FMP census and the 1939 register
Hi Sorry I think it is dreadful. Have messaged FMP. How anyone with a small screen sees anything I don't know. As has been commented, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". Ancestry have changed their font in the transcription for a record and the GRO has a new giant birth or death record. The...

Have you tried the local register office index (not sure which it would be for Halifax) but there might be more details on there

Re: 1939 Register
It depends when Ancestry or FMP update their collections. If you find that one is redacted try the other. From my own research FMP update more frequently than Ancestry. I use an example in my talk of a family with the wife visible but not so on the other.

Re: Information re a historic Birth Certificate application.
Hi You seem to be concentrating on the GRO. The GRO indexes do have errors as they do not have the original registers only copies sent from the local register offices. If you think you know where he was born try the local register office. You will need to add as much family information as possible o...
