Re: Hourglass Diagram

I think the programme is making adjustments, because the sides are uneven. The Left hand side has a person with no parents towards the top, and the right hand side has a similar individual near the bottom, so is making adjustements to compensate. Unless both sides are exactly the same and balanced, ...

Re: Old handwriting

I agree with Gowermick. The groom's surname looks like Calvert. The second letter is an 'a'. The handwriting distinguishes clearly between the letter 'a' and the letter 'o'. The last letter of the surname is 't' and the penultimate letter is 'r', because it matches the two 'r's in 'Arrowsmith'. Lor...

Re: Old handwriting

Peter, It doesn’t look like groom was Matthew Collier! I think the couple are Matthew Calvert or Calbert & Olive Arrowsmith. The author’s double l ‘s and t’s of Matthew & Collier in the Christening look fairly obvious, which is not the case with this marriage. I struggled with bride’s surname , but ...

Re: Newly added child will not sort according to birth date

It doesn't really worry me what order children are entered in as about once a week or when I remember I use the 'Re-order out-of-sequence Data' option under the 'Tools' tab, I do check each one before I confirm the re-sort but it only takes a couple of minutes and 'job done' until the next time. :D...

Re: How to Exclude on Any Fact Place Contains

The reason I suggest include statements is because they better support what you want. I.e include if Census contains place, or birth contains place or married contains place etc, and will slowly add any individual that meets any one of these criteria to your result set. However, if you use exclude ,...

Re: How to Exclude on Any Fact Place Contains

Bill,
You need to turn your logic on its head and only Include those whose Census place contains “County”. This will exclude all who were not in County as well as those who don’t have a County!

Re: Prepared Source and Prepared Citation?

BEJ, Don’t worry, use FH anyway you like, there are few rules you have to adhere to. Like you, I’m a splitter and don’t use DEA or AS, and I keep it as simple as possible. When entering a census, I create a single generic source for each (UK) census page, with a title like 1881 piece 2468 Folio 123 ...

Re: Sorting by dates of facts not always working

Further to Brents reply, the Up/Down arrows are only active when multiple facts have the same date, otherwise facts are automatically sorted on entry into date order. i.e. entering the place and occupation for a census, the arrows allow you to order these facts how you want them: Place then Occupati...

Try Tribalpages.com. You can upload a Gedcom with unlimited number of individuals. The free version limits the number of photos allowed to 50, but you can increase the number of photos allowed by paying a small annual fee. Try either of my links below to see what you get. NB They have an app for you...

Re: Sorting a Query by Ahnentafel Number.

As only people who have an Ahnentafel number, are the direct Ancestors of your Root, another way to achieve what you want is to only include direct ancestors of the Root person in your Resultset! To achieve this, you need two Row filters 1. On the General Tab, select Condition Add if Expression =IsS...

Victor, Being pedantic, can I point out that the 1939 register is not an electoral roll, which are something completely different and produced annually to record those eligible to vote. The trouble with that idea, is that no one company does it 100% right! I gather the Search results should give enough info for most people to make an educated guess which one fits That’s my point. I'd add a line to the Query that calculates the cost - £3.50 per original image, even for FMP subscribers :). At least it's cheaper than earlier exclusive releases, and probably not unreasonable given the costs of production - after all, they are a business, not a charity. But how would you find co...

A useful helper is available on the Map as you can type a placename in at the top and it will send back a list of matching places from the Geocode DB.
If that doesn’t work, get yourself a good gazeteer. I picked up a 1988 Batholomew UK Gazeteer, from a 2nd hand bookshop, and find it invaluable.

FH is based around the Gedcom standard, and as this was originated by the Church of Latter Day Saints (LDS or Mormons), who also own Familysearch, it is no surprise this item is there.
