Re: Linked census records

I'm unashamedly a lumper - for the same reason that I want just one record shared by a number of individuals. So, to get around the issue of recording the data for witnesses in census events, I put the information about the individual in their witness notes, and display it using a witness sentence t...

Inconsistent Footnotes

I have a source based on a source template to cite the 1871 census. In the side panel of the citation window the footnote reads as desired: 30 March 1851. Record for occupants of East Scotston, Auchterhouse, ANS, SCT. Original Data: National Records of Scotland 273/1/4. Accessed through www.scotland...

Re: Unnamed source templates

Hi Mike
No they don't appear in the Source list, and the record numbers relate to other sources. They are Source Templates, rather than sources, yet do not appear in the Source Template list either.

Unnamed source templates

I am slowly creating source templates to suit my needs and applying them to existing generic templates. All is going well but for this error. When I go to add an existing source template to an existing source I see some unnamed source templates that I cannot delete. (see screenshot). They don't appe...

Re: Diagram - specific lines

Thank you Mike - your suggestion worked of course, but I am trying to chart all the DNA tested descendants of the MCRA on one chart. I will go through and hide the unwanted.
Thanks for the quick reply.

Diagram - specific lines

I have a flag that I apply to individuals who are in a direct line from a MRCA to a DNA Match. I want to create a diagram that shows only those with that flag thus showing only the matches back to the common ancestor. I've managed to get the names and dates of those in the path of descent, but am al...

Source Templates for Lumpers

I am definitely in the Lumper camp, and am working through setting up source templates to ensure that I record my sources with enough detail to get a proper citation. If anyone else is in this mode, I would love to have a private discussion with you, with the aim of sharing the designed source templ...

Re: Project Media File Locations

Thank you all. Thank you Adrian for your suggestion of subfolders within the Media folder - I had tried that (and it worked well) but I still had too much stuff, so to speak. I think if I was starting all over again, I would do it differently - I would decide on a consistent file naming convention a...

Project Media File Locations

Hi All In the process of tidying up I have moved all my media from the Media folder within the Project to other locations on my hard drive and relinked everything. Thats all worked well, and I thought I would be very smart and make shortcuts to those other folders so that when I copy mediae and wish...

Re: Multiple functions in expression

Hi Mike Thanks so much for spending time on it - I will try them all to see which I like best. The overall purpose is to give a very economical diagram that can be arranged to fit one one or two pages, with the addition perhaps of some colour coding to aid interpretation. I hope other users might fi...

Thanks tatewise, but I really am trying just to get the years with a hyphen between without any words at all. I am getting bap., bur. etc when I use Lifedates or Lifedate2.

Multiple functions in expression

Can anyone see why this expression won't return the following? =CombineText(TextIf(Exists(%INDI.BIRT.DATE%),%INDI.BIRT.DATE:YEAR%,%INDI.BAPM.DATE:YEAR%),TextIf(Exists(%INDI.DEAT.DATE%),CombineText("-",%INDI.DEAT.DATE:YEAR%,%INDI.BURI.DATE:YEAR%,),),,) Give birth year if present otherwise b...

Media not showing correctly

I use a system of small media files to give a visual indication in the Focus Window of my deductions concerning relationships - one of which is what I call my No Descendents icon. I've made a transparent png, and also tried a jpg with the same colour background as my Focus Window but both images sho...

Re: Assessment of a relationship rather than a fact

I attach a graphic as primary media to the person - silhouette with ? means parentage likely, silhouette with 2 ?? means parentage possible. Use silhouette with a tick if the persons parentage is confirmed by some other record than a birth/bapt/marr/death/burial record. Graphics attached for your in...

Re: Move Main Tab in Property box/Order of media files

Thanks for your clear explanations Lorna. I've found a workaround to linking a regular graphic repeatedly - I have put them into a named group and access them quickly that way.

Move Main Tab in Property box/Order of media files

Is there a way to move the Facts Tab so that it has the focus when the Property Box is opened? Also, when I add media to an individual, (Link to an existing file) the media list defaults to an unknown order (not alphabetical) and clicking on the column headers does not change the sort order. I would...

Re: marital status in diagrams

Further to this discussion - I would like to write an expression that shows m.[marriage year] if it is entered, or m., if there is a spouse but no date, or "Never Married" if that status is recorded, but no status otherwise. So far, working towards getting two of three conditions to work, ...
