Re: Adding Ship Pictures
I agree with Adrian. One's desired output should weigh heavily on the decision. There are many immigrants and more than forty ship images in my data. My main output is a web site constructed with GedSite. I attach the ship images to the immigration fact in FH7. The site's viewers can then click on t...

Re: Composite websites
Instead of starting with the FH7 website you might consider using GedSite. It integrates beautifully with FH7 via Mike Tate's Export GedCom plug-in. GedSite permits great organizational flexibility and has many design options. You can use CSS, but I suspect that most GedSite user don't need to. Deta...

Re: DNA research question
Thank you, Mike. I assume the autosomal test is the one I need. Does it make a difference, given the little chart I provided in the OP, whether I get the sample from my son or his mother?

Re: Data entry question
Thank you all for your thoughtful and sensitive suggestions. I've not been pinned to the Family History/Genealogy dichotomy before, so all of your comments have been very helpful. I have decided to follow Helen and Adrian's suggestion in the main. My FH data will contain a private note with fuller i...

Data entry question
One of my nieces is married to another woman. The latter has just given birth to a boy. The couple plan to raise the boy as their own. The biological father is an anonymous donor.

If there were (is?) a wish list item for exactly that — Word format output for reports — I'd vote for it in a flash.

Re: Exporting to Gedsite - Naturalisation Tag
Like Brent's, my naturalization facts come over into GedSite perfectly. In Gedsite (Data/Tags) you tick the tags you wish to display. Similarly, if you are using a Table set in GedSite you would find a tag filter there. Ensure that all event tags are allowed (except, of course, for the ones you deli...

Re: Death certificate research question
Exactly right, Teresa. the certificate arrived today, 23 days after the GRO said they sent it. The good news is that it's the right person: the birth dates match and the certificate informant was a son whose existence was unknown to me — a new third cousin in fact. Best wishes and thanks to all who ...

Re: Living flag
>>>It could be argued that FH should warn users when the Living Flag is set and a Death, Burial, or Cremation Event is added, in much the same way FH warns about possibly erroneous Dates of facts.<<< Indeed it should. Would it make any sense to use "Names Lists and Record Flags" to clear a...

Living flag
There have been two recent deaths of distant cousins which I have entered as facts. Death dates have been entered. In looking at the All tab I see that their living flags are still set. FH7 has been opened and closed several times since the deaths were entered. Is this a program failure or a user er...

It was all working perfectly up until perhaps 30 or 40 days ago. I'm certain you're correct — it's a Windows 11 problem which was produced by a recent update.

My fH7 font is Tahoma, 12 pt. I experimented with other fonts (Garamond, Ariel, Calibri, Segoe) to no avail. As my earlier post indicated, other programs respond differently. Notepad & Word examples were shown. Wordpad just returns ód for Łódź. The return is flanked by space characters. As you s...

Re: diacritics issue in How Related report...
A recent Windows Update has munged up some of the Polish characters such that Łódź comes out like this ód in Notepad and like this in Word: ódź. One can still copy and paste Łódź correctly in those programs, but cannot get them cleanly in from the keyboard. I searched for a remedy about two or thr...

Try turning the machine off completely and restarting if you haven't already done so. If your method of restarting has been to turn off completely, try restarting without turning the machine off. If that doesn't help run a full system scan for malware. If you can't get the scan to run through comple...

Thank you, Victor. The record apparently exists as the GRO site reports that they mailed it to me on September 26. It hasn't arrived yet. I await today's delivery impatiently. It was a good idea to check parish records. Here in the U.S., consistent state government record-keeping (except along the A...
