Re: V7 upgrade - Old Disabled plug-ins
I only have 3 plug ins but I'll wait for the debugged plugin in for safe removal. All 3 have had new versions downloaded. I updated the "backup and restore" plug in as I needed to use it on reinstall FH on my PC, after a rebuild. The new version worked OK. The other 2 were "export GED...

V7 upgrade - Old Disabled plug-ins
In V7 can I presume that the old plug ins from V6, now marked as disabled, can be safely deleted.
Updated V7 plug ins have been installed and used.
Thanks

File location of Plugin - Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings
I have several times used the Plugin “Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings” to the default location and have regularly done Full Backups (Entire Project Folder) using the inbuilt FH Backup & Restore facility to a portable hard drive. I am curious as to actually what file contains the set...

Re: Printing generation lines but no background
Thanks, but if the print tab is used to not print background then the lines go as well Changing the background colour to white for some reason does not save the colour as white. Luckily at present I have Adobe Pro so if the charts are saved as pdf I can edit them to remove the stripes but leave the ...

Printing generation lines but no background
I want to print charts without the background stripes but still retain the generation lines. Is there an option for this that I cannot find.

Re: White Margins on PDF saved charts
Further comments from Martin at FH Support that may be helpful in the future [/Following up on your previous enquiry. You wanted to use 'Save as PDF' rather than the File > Print method of generating a PDF file, while still setting a white margin around the diagram. As I said in earlier emails, the ...

Re: White Margins on PDF saved charts
I have received a final email from FH Support in which Martin says ........we have confirmed the 'Save as PDF' command (Save Diagram As > PDF File) is affected by the Print Margins that are set on the Print tab of Diagram Options, but that is an error and we have logged it as such. We only discovere...

Re: White Margins on PDF saved charts
Lorna,
Yes I meant diagram and I agree that the are some strange issues and will continue to see where this eventually leads. As I said before, meaningful guidance step by step in FH Help would be very useful

Re: White Margins on PDF saved charts
Lorna, My last post was based on doing a completely new chart the same as the one I was using as my example. Certainly changing orientation did have the effect I described. I got the impression from FH Support that even the default Standard Charts save the settings within them from the last time you...

Re: White Margins on PDF saved charts
If it helps, with my sample diagram, and it may not work for others, I have found that the following works the same for both options but not ideal or quick Diagram>Save Diagram As>PDF File FH PDF printer MUST be set as default before you start, including setting the orientation by guessing. Modify m...

Re: White Margins on PDF saved charts
Lorna, Apologies if misunderstandings have arisen, but if you refer to Mike Tate's post of 14 Mar at 16.58 & my reply of 14 Mar 17.26 I thought it was established that whilst the chart moved down within the pdf the added margin increased the background size so as the complete pdf area was still ...

Re: White Margins on PDF saved charts
Lorna, Exactly the same result can be achieved by simply leaving all defaults, saving as Diagram>Save Diagram As> pdf File and then simply put in the required margin into the Save dialog box. This adds the border to the pdf including the background as your method. This was discussed right at the sta...

Re: White Margins on PDF saved charts
Lorna,
As I have said previously, the diagram IS centred by default so long as no margins are adjusted. A straight "save as pdf" automatically does this. See Capture1
Once you start adjusting the top margin it all goes weird, including putting unnecessary background across the whole page

Re: White Margins on PDF saved charts
As far as positioning the chart on the page sensibly, my example in the attached "Standard Default Diagram" where it is in the middle of the page gives about 65 mm above and below the chart, see the print layout in Capture1. I would have thought that more than adequate to allow an increase...

Re: White Margins on PDF saved charts
My response to Ros was: Firstly all the diagrams are saved directly as pdfs, not FH charts, if that makes a difference I again tried Martins method but it still did not work I am attaching the original saved as pdf file that is fine except it is in centre of page and also the result of adding a 30 m...

Re: White Margins on PDF saved charts
This was Martins reply from FH Support If you choose to view page boundaries, or just to print in the ordinary way, Family Historian will use whatever page size is specified for your current printer. You can check this by clicking on 'Print Setup' on the File menu when viewing a diagram. In fact it'...

I think FH Support may take more notice of you than me

Re: White Margins on PDF saved charts
Mike, I have received a response from FH support which is not really helpful. It is a long response about it being best to use Print to FH pdf rather than Save as pdf . and setting the margin in the pdf printer page set up. I tried this but it makes no difference. Although I initially suggested that...

Re: White Margins on PDF saved charts
Mike, I understand what you say about reports but in the case of these small charts the margin SHOULD make no difference unless the chart was already close to the bottom of the page As for the bug, I believe you are correct. In the first case my landscape chart excluding margins was 145.8 mm x 55.2 ...

Re: White Margins on PDF saved charts
Lorna,
I am afraid I cannot get the Use Current Page Layout to work. Whilst it will give the white margin, it also completely covers the page with the background strips and still pushes the chart off the bottom of the page onto a 2nd page.
It must be my age

Re: White Margins on PDF saved charts
Jane, Thanks for suggestions, but as my volumes amount to more than 4000 pages I have been trying to merge as many pdf files into large pdfs that contain at least a whole chapter, which consists of numerous documents that have not come from FH. I want to be able to amalgamate the A4 charts as part o...
