Re: Add same detail to multiple individuals
I'm glad it makes more sense now. I was trying to follow my own notation convention that happens to be similar to some of FH's conventions. I had looked at the Multifact plugin and saw that it would not work in FH V7. I'm not sure it would have suited my purpose even if it did work. On to more manua...

Re: Add same detail to multiple individuals
to Mike Tate: I apologize for the confusion. Firstly, your last paragraph answers my initial question, so it appears that a plugin is the only solution for bulk adding data. Appending new text entries to existing ones requires multiple fields, otherwise, new entries will overwrite the previous ones....

Re: Add same detail to multiple individuals
Mike, thank you for your insight on this. No doubt I wasn't very clear in what I'm trying to do. The fact that the subject involves sources makes it sound more involved than intended. Perhaps I have misunderstood your response, but I'm not trying to "auto-add" entries by automatically read...

Add same detail to multiple individuals
Background: To quickly see sources for each individual directly in a Diagram , I have created a custom item, called "Ref:" on the Main Tab for Individuals of the Property Box . In that new item box I add just the Source Record Id and page numbers (e.g. [1072]17,27; [1092]). Later, when I'm...

Re: Create Custom Diagram Box Presets
Thanks for showing interest. I believe I've done all that I can to request these features be added to FH. According to FHUG: "If you can not find the feature you are looking for, please go to the New Wish List Requests Forum and post your request there. Then the Moderators will review it and ad...

[Wish List Entry 624] Create Custom Diagram Box Presets
I would like to apply some updated diagram box configurations to older charts that I have created over the years. I know I can create and Save Diagram As > Custom Diagram Type , but when applying the custom type to older charts the entire chart is rebuilt and the overall chart configuration is lost....

Re: Custom Diagram Box Presets
That's a good point. Interestingly, I sent a request to SC and received a response pretty quickly: "It is not possible to do this currently, you could request the User group to add this to the wish list for future consideration." When I mentioned that it appeared they were suggesting that ...

Re: Custom Diagram Box Presets
Thanks, again, Mike. You have gone through the same exercise that I did and came to the same conclusion. I don't understand coding, but it would seem that a "simple" solution would be to have the ability to create custom Diagram Box Presets . After, all if the DNA Flag Preset can change a ...

Re: Custom Diagram Box Presets
Thank you, Mike. Having the ability to create custom diagram presets would certainly be helpful to everyone. Is there a way to request this feature be added to later versions?

Custom Diagram Box Presets
What I am looking for may be a feature of FH 7.0.8 but if it is, I have been unable to find it. I would like to apply some updated diagram box configurations to older charts. I know I can create and save Custom Diagram Types , but when applying the custom type to older charts the entire chart is rec...

Re: "Cannot load file" error
Calico Pie's response was as expected: "The file is exceptionally large, but as you say does load in Windows 10, I have not yet been able to get Family Historian to lock up, but it does go non responsive when trying to compute relationship, however my tests suggest it's still working on the res...

Re: "Cannot load file" error
Thanks, everyone, for your responses. I was unexpectedly called away for several days but I am back at this issue. Regarding looking at the GEDCOM file as a text file, I was easily able to open and edit it in Notepad++ I tried opening the original large file in my Surface Pro tablet running Windows ...

Re: "Cannot load file" error
Thanks, Ron. With Notepad++ I was able to encode the file in various ways, including UTF-8. It still caused problems so my guess is that it's something else that's the issue. How do you want the file @Joel? It only took about 1 minute to load on my iMac into Family Historian. Colin, I'm not quite su...

Re: "Cannot load file" error
Thanks to everyone. You all have been very helpful. Through Notepad++ (thanks, Colin, for that suggestion) I've been exploring some alternatives by eliminating all non-ASCII characters, encoding various characters sets, encoding the file as ANSI, UTF-8, and others. Nothing seems to work. Jane, I dow...

Re: "Cannot load file" error
Mike, I just saw your post. It seems clear that the problem is on my end. With a file size this large, I imagined it would be cumbersome to work with, but at least you were able to open it. I'll keep working on it. Thanks.

Re: "Cannot load file" error
Thanks Peter. At least it's good to know that someone was able to open the file in FH, suggesting that it's not the file itself. I figured it contained hundreds of thousands of individuals and the size of the exception report isn't surprising. I was able to easily open the file in Notepad++, so at l...

Re: "Cannot load file" error
Colin, Thanks for responding so quickly and thanks for the text editor recommendations. I'm not sure I'll know what to look for if I am able to open it in an editor but I'll certainly give it a try. In the meantime, the file I am trying to open in FH is for Nathaniel Felch on the page http://gedcomi...

"Cannot load file" error
I have found a .ged file through GEDCOMindex.com. It is a very large file (319 MB). When trying to open or import the file into FH 6.2.7, it begins to load. After a minute or so of "loading file ... " the screen reads "Initialising data ... " . But after a few seconds the message...

Re: Merge/Compare GEDCOM files
Thank you for clarifying these points. Although it probably should have been obvious to me, your explanation of the color changes was the first I had read of this part of the Merge/Compare feature. I think I’m getting a better understanding of what happens when two files are compared/matched. This l...

Merge/Compare GEDCOM files
I have found a GEDCOM file that can possibly add many individuals to my current project and add substandial detail to current individuals. Being relatively new to FH and before comparing and merging a new file of 1300 individuals with the current project of nearly 1000, I want to get a better unders...

Re: Customizing Reports
Thanks. It's taking awhile to understand how to use the DRA and what all the expressions do. It's beginning to sink in. Your suggestion does what I was hoping it would.
Thanks again for all your help.

Re: Customizing Reports
Mike, Again, thanks for working through this to find a solution. You are a master at understanding all the nuances of FH. Re: Customizing Reports
Mike, I agree that clones are clearly the safest way to go for manipulating any standard components and features and is a practice I've followed from the beginning. I like your suggestion to Callico Pie about adding looping capabilities. By the way, I followed the procedure to completion of adding m...
