Re: Trying to import Census Reference info for use in FTAnalyzer
I hope that I am not going to put a spanner in the works but I seem to recall that there are some "Gotchas" when using FTA to upload to Lost Cousins. Lost Cousins relies upon a true transcript of the Census to be uploaded in order that a match can be made, but by using GEDCOM the Name load...

Re: Ancestral Sources v7.8.5 Beta Testing (November 2023)
Many thanks, Nick, for the new version. I have had a quick check and the automatic capitalisation seems to work as before.

Re: Ancestral Sources v7.8.4 Beta Testing (November 2023)
Just to clarify, I am not asking for anything new, using lower case used to work in previous versions so it appears as though a bug has crept in.

Re: Ancestral Sources v7.8.4 Beta Testing (November 2023)
I didn't download 7.8.3 so not sure if this is something new in 7.8.4 or if it existed in the previous version. There was previously reported a problem with places when the first letter was typed in lower case. There is a similar problem when using a lower case letter in other columns when entering ...

Re: Remembering repository
Nick Can I just endorse Tony's request as I was about to ask the same question. I tend to use The National Archives quite a lot as the Repository, particularly where Census and 1939 Register entries are concerned, as that is where the original documents are held. Others may use FMP or Ancestry but I...

Just for interest I tried to get the Android version of GEDexplorer and it comes up as being "not available to your device because it was made for an older version of Android". I guess that the same might apply to iOS.

Re: Find my Past... or Ancestry ?
Sorry Mark but the latest news on the Suffolk release date is late 2025!t's also worth keeping an eye on upcoming record releases. Ancestry have already announced new datasets of East Anglian parish records (Suffolk and Cambridgeshire) for 2024, so they will keep me very busy when the time comes.

Re: How many sources have you created with Ancestral Sources?
I have 2,423 Source Records and 2,000+ have been created with AS. I seem to recall that 1200+ where created when I moved from TMG and decided to remove all the census entries and replace them with the help of AS to get consistency in my project. The remainder have been created over the last 8 years....

Re: Forum Changes
I don’t mind longer descriptions, but IMO the old v2-4 forums should be deleted altogether, as they just clutter the page. It’s time to let go... There could also be an argument for culling anything over, say, 5 years old as, most probably, any answers may not now be appropriate and already feature...

Re: What is an objective definition of "Splitting"?
May I offer a possible solution to the lengthy discussions on Splitting and Lumping, GEDCOM definitions, and any other philosophical discussions that people might want to debate. On another Forum that I subscribe to, they have an Off Topic Section which can be used for that purpose. In other words i...

Re: Proposed Changes to the Forums
One of the objectives is to make the Forum more user friendly but I have been unable to find one of the things that would help me and no doubt others, so I am not sure if it is possible. I have a bookmark in my browser to the URL for Unread Posts which I use at least once a day. However it brings up...

Thanks Mike
I have tried your suggestion and it gives me the result I was looking for. I did try to read through the FH Help and the FHUG Knowledgebase but I missed that function.

Re: Data Reference for YEAR
Sorry Lorna, I wasn't very clear even though I read through my requirements several times. What I need is a list of individuals that exclude those who have died before a certain date. I have started my query by adding a list of those born after a certain date leaving me with a list of individ...

Data Reference for YEAR
I am using a Query where I am trying to list individuals that have a death date before a given year. In the Rows tab I am using the following expression . "Exclude if %INDI.DEAT.DATE:YEAR% is less than ....." However when I run the query many of the individual are not excluded even though ...

Re: Unrelated Individual v Witness in Census
I thought that I might be missing something, Mike. I was thinking that it would apply to each individual's census event but that may be more complicated than connecting it to the head of the household. It may well be that what I thought could be simple has its drawbacks.

Re: Unrelated Individual v Witness in Census
I had not fully considered all the ramifications but I can see that the name only witness would have to be added to the Census fact. I don't think this would impact upon reports as the Witness Sentence is not applicable for 'name only' witnesses. They would simply be unrecorded parties to that censu...

Re: Unrelated Individual v Witness in Census
Thanks Brent, I had missed that option and may be a good workaround.
I am just trying to get it straight in my mind as to whether there is an additional advantage in having the person recorded as a Name Only (_SHAN) Witness which I believe is the case with name only witnesses in marriages.

Unrelated Individual v Witness in Census
Nick I hope that I haven't missed something but when I started using AS, I entered everyone who was not in my project as an unrelated individual. After a few years I realised that those individuals were most probably superfluous so I changed tack and recorded them in a note. Now we have Rich Text in...

Whether the 1921 followed suit, I'm not sure - it certainly did something above and beyond swearing people to silence. In an earlier post in 21223|1921 census If you have not already seen the article, I would recommend that you read "Putting the 1921 Census online - the inside story" in t...

Re: Reverting to researched surname
I think that this is a question for Nick Walker as I am not sure if there is an option for what you want in Ancestral Sources. The problem is that when FH is updated it loses the record of the previously visited people in the focus window.

Are you using Ancestral Sources to enter the census data? If so, what you are seeing is what happens when you save and go back to FH.

Although I record the information from the Wills ...
