Re: [On Hold until 21 Feb 2025] Hotkey to hide boxes in charts/diagrams
I have also expressed these views in the past direct to Calico Pie, it is up to them if they take the time/resources to make the product a more CLAF and flexible keystroke/mouse professional product. It just seems a pity that they do not make this product with excellent functionality "quicker&q...

Re: On Hold until 13 Dec 2024: Abbreviated Place Names
I am a very big fan of standardisation, even if they are not perfect, ISO standards etc, ISO dates like yyyymmdd. But as we have reiterated many times through this forum, PLACes are a minefield. So I fully understand where Adrian Bruce is coming from. E.G. - Whilst it seems normal for UK residents t...

Re: Simple Instruction on Exporting FH Tree to Ancestry
As Mike says, Ancestry support for Gedcom is... not very good, for me in particular the display of Source detail. I upload mine mostly as "cousin bate", DNA connections and Thrulines (use with caution!), to share my research, and use "Member Connect" for research. So still very u...

Re: %INDI.DEAT.DATE:AGE_AT% does not work with Birth BEFORE dates
I think the function year might not be doing what you think. It does no calculation or interpolation. It just extracts the year part of the first date it find in the facts date ignoring any qualifiers. So if the date is btw 1891 and 1901 it gives the answer 1891. For before it just gives the year p...

Re: %INDI.DEAT.DATE:AGE_AT% does not work with Birth BEFORE dates
I'm trying to understand how age_at could be determined from a before date as there's no limit to how long before they may have been born. If the event was a baptism there's no reason they could not of been baptised in their teens. To me EstimatedAgeAt would seem a more appropriate tool in the abse...

%INDI.DEAT.DATE:AGE_AT% does not work with Birth BEFORE dates
Under Diagram Options > Boxes, I use an expression =IsTrue(%INDI.DEAT.DATE:AGE_AT% < 15) This is to create a bottom-right box shadow to show someone died young. This works fine except where the individual has a BIRTH date using BEFORE . This is fairly common when creating BIRTh from a Baptism. This ...

Apologies if I got mixed up, but I much prefer the "look" of the new search results. I found the old ones confusing the way they kept popping in and out more detail as the cursor was moved. Sorry can't be more explicit as I can't see the old one anymore!

Re: Quarter dates and Gedcom files
Apologies for being so late commenting on this, just noticed it in the SIMILAR TOPICS of a post. As already mentioned it is the 1/4 when registered, the birth not necessarily being in that 1/4. So to me; the simplest, most accurate, completely GEDCOM compliant and portable is to use CIRCA . e.g. 1st...

Re: How to document DNA connections with FHv7
... My question is why include all of this within the fact type rather than within a custom source type? I am very much a believer in Sources as the prime source of information, so yes, why not use a Source. As I mentioned, for me it was simpler to perform analysis with custom facts (add info to tr...

Re: Can children's names be shown in bold?
Following on from Mike's suggestion. I think the Blue highlight colour is designed as the standard for web "links", but for genealogy suggests Male. If you do save as RTF, and edit in say MS-Word, you could easily record a macro to change all blue to a more neutral colour (e.g. purple) and...

I suggest you search the forum for "DNA" and check some of the topics. The main point I can see is that there is no best or accepted method yet to record DNA relationships, and the data provided is still a "moving target". Within previous topics are various facts with "organ...

Re: unable to enter FHUG site with message Your clock is behind etc
I don't use Outlook, but in the Google Calendar you can set the Timezone for each event. I do this a lot when travelling, it is especially useful for Airline times. You can do the same in outlook - see https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/set-the-time-zone-for-a-meeting-or-appointment-in-outl...

I long since learnt that some seemingly complex suggestions just need a small tweak or a feature turned on, and vice versa. If you don't ask/suggest you don't get.

Throwing out another "possibility": Get rid of all the sections, but use categorie(s) instead. I've often felt that the Plugin section also has "general" implications and similar with import/export can often give me "ideas/help" with other issues. So an item that was be...

Re: What specifically can you currently do with a gedcom 7 exported file?
My highest priority is getting my FH tree on to Ancestry.com in the most complete form that is possible. A challenge indeed. Mike's Export Gedcom File plugin does a good job, but I still find the way Ancestry shows Source note text very poor. It puts into one long string e.g. )Header)__Name______ |...

I think the problem there is that it could relate to many individuals with many different facts, but then a list might be useful. That sounds good to me, I suppose a simpler to use version of my use of ADDRess and Mike's use of GetLabelledText. I suspect it is "internationally" automated , but not "per user" automated . My plugin does offer a large degree of "user desired" automation, but I would...
