Bill,
Yes, I agree - I always felt like swatting the darn thing, but then I wanted to see it again within a few minutes.

Re: Change default opening Tab for Citation floating window
Thank you both, Mike and Bill!
Obviously I was thinking only of FH formatting and not considering the windows in Windows. I've been using my iPad way toooo much. Sorry if I made this job too painful.
CP should be paying the Megastars on this forum.
Cheers,

Re: Change default opening Tab for Citation floating window
At what point are you stuck? Did you manage to get the focus window and property box docked side by side? Did you manage to open the Sources For window as a floating window and resize it and place it next to the property box? How about the citation window... did you open it and resize it and positi...

Re: Change default opening Tab for Citation floating window
Thanks, Jim. I might be willing to try it, but I cannot find a "Customize Citation Window" (or is it a pane/box/thingie?? :) ) using any of the methods above. The instructions on the KB at least gives me a split window view - though the citation is still not visible without that annoying f...

Re: Change default opening Tab for Citation floating window
Thanks, Jim -- we document something similar at Customising V7 to use V6 (Simple) Style Sources , which might give you some other ideas to simplify things. It isn't however possible to select a different default first tab on open. I am also struggling with this problem, went to the KB link as noted...

Re: Highlighting different projects
In View > Special Records > Header Record I entered TEST Gedcom in the File Description and put a similar appropriate entry in the main file. Then in the property box captions I changed it to Individual: %INDI% [=RecordId()] (%CUR_FILE_HEADER.NOTE2%) Now the caption of the property box reads Indivi...

Re: Everyone v All Relatives chart
Mine was going to be 7 ft tall or thereabout, so I took Jane's advice and did separate maternal and paternal ancestry charts. My husband will have the all-relatives chart on Dropbox for reference. The KB article was helpful, though.

Re: Everyone v All Relatives chart
I am working my way through the Knowledge Base article. Thank you both for the extra tips. Unfortunately, it's my husband's brothers so they share all their ancestors. I had thought to do narratives for a few interesting people and those that the family 'iffy' theories of. They will never believe me...

Re: Everyone v All Relatives chart
How do I set options for the All Relatives chart to make it legible but printable in a practical way for a family reunion? I do have a relative in the UK with access to a printer that will do AO size or under. I am trying to print 10 generations, but perhaps I need to scale that down. ? Any tips on ...

Re: How to make a new template for Griffith's Valuation
Thanks to you both for your replies. This is just too complex for me to attempt now. It looks as if the easiest thing would be too create a new database and use it to run the tutorial(s) - what with all the settings changes needed.

Re: Media not visible
It might seem clear to some, but in a long thread like this, it is sometimes hard to keep track of which import/export procedures are being discussed without specifying TNG->FH or FH->TNG. The same thing in the Knowledge Base articles, which are sometimes referenced by small clips. My screenshot abo...

Re: Media not visible
Mike, I think we should replace the screen shot I sent with another one - I left the wrong path in the fields instead of changing them. That path, I remember now, was from a desktop version of TNG I tried out several years ago. I'm really in a little over my head here. I do remember, as Ron mentione...

Re: Media not visible
Kathleen, are you planning to regularly round-trip TNG to FH , FH back to TNG , TNG back to FH , and so on? No. Only from FH to TNG. When you recently transferred the Gedcom from TNG to FH you probably got an Exception Report from FH about Gedcom data that needed adjusting, as explained in how_to:i...

Re: Media not visible
I'm far from an expert, Mike, but it looks OK to me.
Hopefully, I won't have too many problems when I export from FH to TNG!

Re: Meaning of the different colours in charts
Why not just go and play with the settings, you can always restore to Installation Settings when done. Thanks for those links! Why not play? Because I've been there and done that and had a real mess to clean up afterward. Restore to installation settings works for everyone but me, I think!

Re: Meaning of the different colours in charts
Along these lines, are there any visual samples of what effect these settings have on the display? For example, changing the text or different layout options? I would love to see what others have done.

Re: Media not visible - fixed!
Success! Thanks, Mike, you pointed me in the right direction.
I found the option in TNG to export the media links by changing the file paths to match my FH setup. I then imported the new Gedcom and the media list is now populated in FH and so far everything seems to be connected.

Re: Media not visible
Hi Mike, I am using TNG - The Next Generation. I want to do my research and keep my database in FH, then upload periodically to my website. I did not expect the media to transfer, but was not sure about all the links. So I manually copied the files to my project media folder. They do not show up any...
