Re: Problem with notifications

I get notifications by email like everyone else but I never press the link. I goto my browser where I have a FHUG tab and open that tab. it lists all the notifications I have to read. I then start reading them

Re: Backing Up

Once you have done a Project back up and if you had some previous back ups do delete the old ones you don't need as they take up space on your hard drive.

Re: Living "over the brush!"

My great grandmother had an illegitimate child (my grandfather) he was baptised with his mother's maiden name. On my tree I left his father's name out. That is is mother is the only name listed and the normal spuses name is blank. His mother later married Charles Markham and they had children. This ...

Re: Technical Question on Generations 5.2

If you ever back up FH Projects on your PC do delete the old versions otherwise your hard drive will soon be full.
Backing up does not automatically replace the previous back ups

Re: File organisation in Windows

Forget what I said about FH files. I only mention that under that as particular subject. FH is just one folder. I have a whole list of other bolders under different subjects and these are divided into sub folders, similar to what i have done in my FH folder. By doing this I know where things are and...

Re: File organisation in Windows

Maybe I misunderstood the topic. One asked how they organise files and I was simply stating how I organie files and made special pointes when it came to FH Project. When it comes to surnames I have one file for each surname so I know where the details are. Thatis details of the person I have added t...

Re: Mapping Issue

As far as the UK is concerned always add the county. There are similar named places in different counties. Any places in Yorkshire one needs to add whether it is East, West of North Yorkshire, As an example there is Scalby in North Yorkshire (it is north of Scarborough) there is also Scalby in East ...

I note the name in the box linked to the yellow box is Poulsen. You can put the name //(Poulsen) as the wife That will appear in the yellow box until you find the name. I do this all the time

Re: PDF report with blank page 1

If you save the file in RTF format you can open the file and save it in any format you choose. A drop down list appears for you to pick in Word.
Once you have done that you can edit it, which you can't do in PDF (depends on where you get this from).

Re: Naturalisation

Thanks for your replies on this. It has enlightened me on the past and I hope others too so we all have to bear in mind what to put on their FH details

I will ask the great grandson of the woman in question. He was the one who sent me details of her naturalisation application.

Re: Naturalisation

I am talking about an English woman who married a German in King's Lynn in 1885. Once she married him she became a German even though she never lived in Germany. They ran a business in Hull and are listed in all the appropriate census's When her husband died she applied for naturalisation in 1923. J...

Re: Nationalisation

Sorry my error I originally wrote naturalisation but then changed it. Just thought I would mention this to make others aware of such a marriage making the 'home' person the nationality of the immigrant. Come to think of it, if the wife was German she then have become English after marrying her Engli...

Naturalisation

We all, well most of us do, know about nationalisation I learned something new a few days ago. In 1875 an English wife, born in King's Lynn, married a German, born in Hamburg, in England. They lived here and brought up a family. They are all listed in the census years. They never lived in Germany. W...

I agree with what has been said here. I have 77,000 on my tree!
Obviously not all directly related to me but it just takes One who is not marrying one who is then the rerlationship of that part changes.

Thanks for your input Mike I do know what happened to my parents. Before the war they lived above a shop where my father was manager. Census, 1939 Register, Electoral Roll

This is prompted by the 16298|Customize Property Box puzzle posting. I know we are talking about the Electoral Roll or Registry. Those of 1939 are really a National Registry listing people due to the war. The addresses shown are not very accurate. My parents are listed as living in Hull when they ha...

When you have OneDrive listed on the File Explorer does that take up space on the computer hard drive or is it 100% in the Cloud?

Re: Find Census Information to enter into Ancestral Sources

I always save the census image in a census folder of the year.

As others have details the title of the image I add at theend the name of the person and the year he was born

Like an example above RG13-0603_Fo-52_Page-10 Joe Bloggs 1860
