Re: A new Ancestral Sources launcher...?
I will test the final plugin (if we go ahead) in both WINE and FH6, but on the face of it I don't see anything that shouldn't work as long as I structure the code accordingly. I regard FH5 as obsolete, so don't support. @Mark Don't bother with Crossover or PlayOnMac as I can't get AS to run in eith...

Yes I had tried that option but did not do the save step
I have now tried it and done that and the plugin does run but then crashes FH with a Wine error.

Re: New Page - Writing Plugins Compatible with Mac/Linux
Mark I just tried your plugin on Crossover. I ran it on the sample project and I get this warning message. Screenshot 2024-08-01 at 12.28.14.png I have tried several of the options in the 'Record Identifiers' tool and all of them generate this error message even though the RI tool says it was succes...

Why not stick with FH?
I agree with your comments about Reunion I tried it and after FH soon gave up. I also tried FTM and went back for the same reasons neither anywhere near as comprehensive as FH IMHO.
UTM is a lot easier in my experience than Parallels.

With a new silicon iMac take a look at UTM it is a VM for silicon Macs and you can get a free version of ARM Windows 11 and use that. I am currently experimenting with that rather than Crossover as I cannot get the current version of AS to run under Crossover.

Fine under Crossover on Mac works as you expected with 2 OK's and one correctly identified OS.

Re: Legacy Backup and Restore FH Settings plugin does not run in Linux/WINE
As shown by Colin's experiments, it is not just Linux/WINE that is affected but also Crossover. I'm not sure whether that was Crossover on Linux or a Mac. Perhaps, PlayOnLinux/Mac also needs to be examined. Mike I used Crossover on Mac. I now have a Silicon rather than Intel Mac and PlayOnMac no lo...

Mike that runs fine under Crossover, no output though which is the result you were looking for I assume and no crash.

Your Windows based plugin works fine under Crossover I ran it after I ran Mike's test one just to make sure.

Re: 1939 Register minor issue
Don't forget that if you find to people living together saying that they are married doesn't necessarily mean that they are married to each other The register is not like a census in that it DOES NOT include relationship Column 9 of the 1939 register does contain a status which like any other recor...

Re: 1939 Register minor issue
I, maybe naively, expected the fact that if I added the new woman as the spouse and the fact that the 1939 register had their status as married then AS would automatically change the S to M.
As I said not a big issue just something for the user to remember on data entry for a rare case.

1939 Register minor issue
Nick 1939 Register add an existing male who has an existing spouse who has died before the register and remarried. If you then select add a new spouse and enter her details. She is added to the grid but her status is shown as S instead of M so a manual change necessary. Not a big issue just somethin...

The first three I have thought maybe worthwhile offering were adding a ...

Re: AS v7.8.6 and Crossover install
Nick, the last time the KB was updated it was written for a Windows 7 bottle with AS v5.0.2 and Crossover v19. So all have moved on considerably and along the way something has changed which is causing the issue. I suspect that I will have to remove AS from the article but I will experiment a bit mo...
