Re: To Do List

It was more about now being available on the iPhone and iPad where it wasn't before.

Re: Workhouses and Census's

I found the 1911 census for one workhouse right at the end of the collection rather than in address order. IIRC this was for Chichester so it may be worth checking for yours there.

To Do List

We had a long discussion earlier about To Do lists. I was today notified of the availability of the Microsoft to Do app in the iPhone app store as of today. I have also found that it is available in the Mac app store too. Presumably it is also available in the Windows store. Whilst not integrated wi...

William

I don't think anyone has mentioned YouTube yet. This is a good source of tutorials for some aspects of using Family Historian and Ancestral Sources. As well as reading the book it may well be worth watching some of these. This link takes you to some of them.

Re: Can't make multiple selections with CTRL-Click in FH 6.2.7 running under Win10 and VMware Fusion

I noticed the same today after updating VirtualBox yesterday (I wonder if they are using the same base) I did, however, manage to do multi select with the mouse and the shift key.

Mine were easy Spencer, Copping, Lefever, Edwards, Bramble, Baverstock, Binstead, Cook. My wife's were more of a challenge as her father was Polish and her mother Swiss Sikora, ?, Czempik, ?, Spoker, ?, Brungger, Sulzer. Hopefully we will get some more from the Polish side in the not too distant fut...

Re: When to stop with Sources

I don’t add married name to women where I don’t have birth name, but maybe I should, as I have an awful lot of Mary, Ann, Elizabeth etc entries.....!

I add the married name in square brackets as the surname so I can easily see the context and replace it with the maiden name when / if I ever find it.

Re: Creating a website options

I am sorry but they don't there is no style code in those span tags. Try deleting them and see what displays then. See https://www.w3schools.com/tags/tag_span.asp particularly the bit under 'Style and Usage' #2. They need to have a style statement too. It is likely that your li element has the verti...

Re: Creating a website options

@dewilkinson Why all the empty span tags (or is this just poor coding in FH)? They make invalid html. They are intended to add styling to the links but no styling is applied. Rather than using those &nbsp you would be better off creating a CSS class of left padding and applying that to the eleme...

Translation of old French documents

I am afraid that my schoolboy French from over 50 years ago is not helping with the full translation of these records. I can do a couple of bits but if anyone can help I would be very grateful. There are two images one of Charles Villeneau marrying Esther Sorre on Sunday 26th June? and the second of...

I use FreeFileSync to keep mine all in sync. It works well on both Windows and Mac and best of all it doesn't cost anything.

Re: Synch FH on two Laptops

I use a NAS (Network attached Storage) drive at home and back this up to Google Drive automatically once a day. No issues at all doing it this way. If I use the laptop away from home then before I go I download to the laptop and upload to the NAS drive if necessary when I return home.

Julian date entry

Is there any way to enter a Julian date in Ancestral Sources?

I tried the FH method of [J] in front of the date but AS complains about invalid date format.

Re: A simple to-do list

Mike My requirements are the same as Helen's it is just we disagree on desirable vs must have. My view is that BOTH Repositories and Sources should be sortable so as to group all research required at a given Repository or Source should be grouped together so that a list can be prepared for any resea...

Re: A simple to-do list

Mike I think you should split the thread if you are going to move it. I would like a proper To Do List along the lines of what has been previously suggested. I just see this latest series of threads as a 'work around' and not a proper sortable To Do list. Hopefully we can get a consensus and formula...

Re: Privacy and GDPR

I agree with Helen that the moment you publish it online you are within the scope of GDPR. I did an online course on GDPR prior to it going live and asked this question as part of the interaction with the tutor and he was of the opinion that it would be within the scope but would probably need testi...

Are you a resident of the European Union? If you are then you could do this using the GPDR legislation. If you aren't then you will have to check out the T's & C's on the My Heritage site.

Re: A simple to-do list

Helen, I think that Repositories is more important if for instance I am going to a particular Town, whilst there go to the graveyard and search for xxx gravestone. So a search on 'what have I got to do at this repository' only one item so check others and at 6 at this other repository so I will plan...

One thing to add to the minimum imho would be 'Repository' be it website or physical location such as library, graveyard etc.

Re: Personal Historian Essentials from RootsMagic

Interesting the Mac version is huge in comparison with the Windows version so it is probably packed into a dedicated Wine package.

I will give it a try.

Update...
I downloaded the Windows package and installed it on my Mac using PlayOnMac and it installed fine with no dependencies.
