Re: How do I open a .pdf in FH 5.0?

Family Historian cannot display pdf files. You need to use an external viewer to view them. One way around this is to use a converter (several free and online) to change the pdf to a jpg and attach that to the source too. That way you have the pdf for printing and the jpg to view within Family Hist...

Re: Creating a GEDCOM of my Cousin's ancestors to give to them

File > Export > Gedcom File and Select 'Add using Query' then select the All relatives query and then the person. That is how I do it.

@Jane

Just FYI there are now 2 FAQ links in the ProSilver theme in Firefox on Mac.

Re: FHUG on the move

If you can live without the links to the home page and knowledge base at the top of the page, try the prosilver skin. You might find that preferable. I know I've been using it ever since it became available. For me the color scheme is much better and I like the fact that it is more compact than the...

Re: Wills

@Jane

I ordered mine on 22nd and 23rd July. Delivered between 1st and 12th August.

The first was 5 days early and the last in fact 5 days late my memory was not so good in my initial reply to you so I actually checked the site.

Re: Wills

I too ordered 3, the first turned up a day early, the second 2 days late and the third 4 days late. I would chase them up as that seems a bit long to me as two of mine have already expired the 30 day retention rule.

Re: Batch updates to Date of Death?

@Mike Genealone , which is similar to TNG , does exactly what Sharon is asking for. It just shows the name of living people but if you have site login credentials and suitable permissions you can see all the living persons data. Unfortunately, it has not been updated for some while and whilst the de...

Re: View PDF

Convert to jpg either online or with one of the utilities and then you can view it as media. You can also store the pdf in the media record too, for printing by yourself or someone else but you won't be able to see a visual representation of it in FH . This is what i do so that I have a good quality...

The FH v5 manual is available free and covers a large portion of what is in v6. Download it from the Knowledgebase on this site here

Re: Batch updates to Date of Death?

@Sharon

Have you considered what you are going to do with any locations stored against those circa dates? If not, then it may look a bit odd if you have an unknown date but you do still have a place record.

Re: Same sex marriage in church in 1902????

@StevieSteve Thanks for that. It is interesting that you say that the first names are correct it just goes to show how poor the transcriber was. Given where the entry is I suspect the date for the skeleton entry was 30 March (the actual day of their marriage) not actually the 30th April. Maybe they ...

Re: Best way to input information

@William I have the same issue as you with common names across the generations with my surname study. What I tend to do is select one individual and concentrate on them gathering all their facts both forwards and backwards, adding shared facts to their siblings & parents as I go but still concentrat...

Re: Same sex marriage in church in 1902????

@Adrian It would be useful to see the Essex entry I agree. Canning Town is close to Hackney but at the time they were in two different counties. Bearing in mind the record set is Banns as well I wonder if that has come in to play? Isabel was born in Bethnal Green and that is where she lived until he...

Re: Same sex marriage in church in 1902????

@Mike Unfortunately on this group of transcriptions that they have there is no report error link as they are bought in ones rather than some they have done themselves. Like you, I have had others successfully updated when they are wrong. Update: I contacted FMP by their Chat function and they are lo...

Re: Same sex marriage in church in 1902????

What's even more annoying is that i already had that marriage with the correct names in my Surname Study. As a result I have written a couple of new queries to allow partial input searches to reduce the duplicate entries and to help with something like this.

Same sex marriage in church in 1902????

What do you make of this marriage transcription?

I think it is a mis-transcription as homosexuality was still illegal in 1902. I can find no trace of a marriage for Isaac in 1902. Anyone got any bright ideas?

Thanks Jane, back to the old skin which I prefer.

This server seems much quicker and so far no issues accessing the board. Thanks for all the hard work, I know that it is no simple task transferring servers.

Yes it is dead easy to do.

One way is menu Add > Source

You can also create it from the Auto Source Citation icon on the tool bar.

Thanks for the suggestions. I did mention Mac in my original post, you probably missed it Mike. We looked at Gramps whilst she was here and didn't like it. AQ is an evolution of PAF which I used before I found FH but now realise why I changed :D I will take a look at Ancestris thanks for that Mervyn

Thanks for that I hadn't realised that Heredis was free, the Mac is the issue. Just checking it is only free for 50 people to that is no good.

Yes it is being used because it is free. Probably 'Bank of Dad' will have to pay for a FH licence ;)
