Re: Adding Media files.
If you link a marriage certificate to an individual and the father's name on the certificate doesn't match the father's name in the tree ... As I work primarily in Diagrams and the Property Box I can see at a glance where any such anomalies occur. As the evidence is in the linked source record imag...

The conclusions are drawn from the images of the original source records that are linked to the individuals concerned, all saved within the single project folder. The evidence is within the project, to refer to and examined whenever needed.

Re: Adding Media files.
The point that I am trying to make is that it is not always necessary to conform to a perceived standard if that standard is so technical and time consuming that it ends up taking over one's life. I have watched many people become disillusioned, dropping out of trying to follow sessions that teach a...

Re: Adding Media files.
Helen - the people that I help with FH are beginners, mostly elderly, struggle with IT technology and computers, but want to record their family history research in a simple manner that they can understand. They have absolutely no interest in time consuming more advanced methods of using FH. If I we...

I too am unhappy with the suggestions that I am incorrect in linking media to individuals. Those media are my Sources. I have used this method successfully since FH was launched to the public in May 2002, so will never change. My Method is not a Workaround.

Adrian - Agree, there are many of us that use that method. It is simple intuitave and quick.
In AS options there is a tick box to automatically link the image to the individuals. It works really well. I use AS method 2.

My choice is that I also link my source images to the individuals concerned, so the thumbnails show in the Media tab of the Property Box. To answer your question, double click the thumbnail then tick Exclude From Diagrams which prevents the thumbnail also showing in charts/diagrams and in the Focus ...

As I am a strict lumper I use Ancestral Sources method 2 for recording census. The vast majority of my research is in England so I simply record places as parish comma space county.

Re: Where do i Start
Before using Ancestry Sources it is best to decide whether you will be a lumper or a splitter in Family Historian. I am a lumper because I like simplicity, so I use AS option 2.

Re: On Hold until 22 Dec 2024: Descendants Tab
It is much easier to work in Diagrams/Charts that in the Focus Window. For example use the Ancestors and Descendants (Both) diagram, set generations up and down to All, use the clickable nodes to switch branches off and on, use your mouse scroll button to zoom in/out.

Zero.
I have 26 sources in FH. I created them all (census) manually in FH. None were created by AS.

Re: Using AS and FH charts
My workaround when using Ancestral Sources is to have my FH Records Window sorted by the Updated column - Descending. When the GEDCOM reloads it takes me three clicks to return to where I was in the Diagram. (1) Records Window (2) Select the individual at the top of the list (3) Rebuild the diagram ...

Helen - agree this is a difficult one. There are always exceptions that need special treatment. In this case I would share the image as well as the PDF. I do transcribe basic names dates and places where necessary but keep those to a minimum.

There is an alternative, not often discussed. In this digital world data storage is without limit and cheap. I simply download or scan or photo...
