Re: Windows Virtual Desktop

That is why I suggested a decade or more away. Make it a couple of decades or more away for mobile and universal coverage. But the eventual speed of rollout of FTTP and 5G may surprise us. I agree that the current WVD offerings appear to be aimed at businesses, not the general public yet. I am still...

Re: Windows Virtual Desktop

The article I linked to suggests that many years hence Microsoft may withdraw the current Windows 10 that we install on our physical computers, and only offer a pay for version in the cloud. They will have to wait until almost everyone has a stable high speed internet connection at home which could ...

Re: Flagging a DNA Match?

I have created a flag "DNA proven relative" which in diagrams switches on an orange border for the boxes of the people concerned. I assign this flag to the relative in question and to the people in the paths back to our common ancestral couple. I can therefore see at a glance which lines have been p...

The Focus window was introduced to emulate the main display of Generations which was a popular software at the time. I suggested it :).

If you create, for example, and Ancestors and Descendants diagram with the husband who married twice as the focus, both/all wives and their descendants will be included in the diagram.

Re: Synch FH on two Laptops

Like Adrian I too use Dropbox, and love it so much that I too pay for 1Tb. And I have always paid a little extra for unlimited storage of historical and deleted copies forever. I have Family Historian set to automatically save, and backup to Dropbox, every minute as I work. Syncing between desktop a...

Re: Recording DNA matches in Family Historian

I am taking a completely different approach to identify in Family Historian (1) which people have taken a DNA test (2) marking the paths of proven DNA matches back to the common ancestors. (1) I have a flag "DNA" which in diagrams switches on a DNA helix logo beneath the boxes of people that have ta...

I don't see a need to crop or alter original source images such as census. Digital storage is cheap these days.

Re: Tentative FH data

A short answer is that I use the IN PROGRESS flag that I have set to display a heavy dotted box for the person concerned in diagrams together with a "men at work" icon. Simple and effective.

Re: Running on two PCs

My vote is to sync via Dropbox on the cloud where I pay extra for Packrat which keeps copies of all historic versions of all of my data forever. I have been doing that continuously since 2009 with no issues. I have Family Historian set to Auto-save every minute while I work. The process is fully aut...

Re: Property box display problem

This issue may or may not be related to the property box and the physical size of the monitor/screen being used. If the property box contains a lot of content such as the addition of several customised fields, on laptop screens that have a reduced vertical height, the bottom area of the property box...

Re: Find my Past... or Ancestry ?

On Ancestry you don't get overwhelmed with results if you follow this technique. Search > Search All Records Match All Terms Exactly. Make good use of wildcards ? and * to take care of mistranscriptions etc. Use the Keyword field for places instead of the Location fields. Indeed use the keyword fiel...

Re: Exporting Gedcom file to Family Tree DNA

My issue with FTDNA family trees is that they do not recognise baptism or burial dates and places, only birth and death dates and places. Prior to 1837 where I don't have any birth or death information those people are devoid of any meaningful information on my FTDNA family tree. I am unwilling to c...
