Re: Ancestry DNA recalculations

Ethnicity predictions and estimates are just that. Some people may receive results that match their expectations - others may not. This science is stiil evolving as more reference populations are added to the databases and the algorithms improve. We are not there yet. https://dna-explained.com/2018/...

Re: Ancestor/Ahnentafel number

I sometimes like the Ahnentafel numbers for each person to display in diagrams.

The method is Diagram Options > Text tab > Edit... . Ahnentafel Number - Calculated is listed in Available Items in the left pane.

Re: Ancestry Changes

The consensus of several blog posts by experts is that around 50% of 6 and 7cM matches are false positives, which means that around 50% are postive positives. The same blog posts calculate that on average we will lose around 50-60% of our AncestryDNA match lists. Speculation is that the real reason ...

Re: FH7 Looks?

Please calm down folks. There is no need to make false assumptions and get hung up about release dates. FH7 will be ready when it is ready, not before. It is not prudent for developers to release much detail about future improvements as doing so would put them at a commercial disadvantage. Calico Pi...

Re: Short dates and place name for Gedcom export to Family Tree DNA

I have been requesting for years that FTDNA accept baptism and burial dates and places in their family trees but it is falling on deaf ears. There is a big downside to periodically uploading a GEDCOM to replace an existing FTDNA family tree. The links are lost that the FTDNA algorithim uses to assig...

Re: FH7 Looks?

Under the loose heading of Looks, for me the biggest improvement to FH7 will be the ability to vertical scroll the property box. For those using laptops that have a restricted screen height, the children area at the bottom of the property box is often out of sight. Undocking and moving the property ...

Re: Sources and Citations

I too rely on images of records linked to the people concerned as my 'sources and citatations'. I see no point being a slave to spending hours transcribing those images or recording where I found them. The world has changed since pre-internet. I have the images, so all I need to do is to view them t...

Re: Project deletion issue

The (1) indicates that at some point the folder was copied and the (1) is the copy. That is why they contain very similar data. The timestamp is clearly wrong as you say, possibly indicating that the copy was made when your computer clock was temporarily out of sync.

In addition to using Dropbox for automatic backups of all of my data, including all historical versions for the last decade, and more copies of my data on other cloud services, I use ARQ Backup. My ARQ is set to automatically copy the whole of my Drive C to Dropbox on the fly, including the registry...

There were several programs named "Family Tree", but only one named "Family Tree Maker" which is currently owned by Software MacKiev.
