Re: Changing type
My Chambers Dictionary defines CENSUS as 'an official enumeration of inhabitants with statistics relating to them' with which the 1939 census complies. Using a census as a source for residence needs caution as it is only where the inhabitant was residing on a particular date. For example my grandfat...

Re: Illegitimate Child - 'Unknown' spouse of mother.
Roger - if in your diagram you make the blank box hidden then the illegitimate child is displayed immediately below the mother and the blank box no longer appears.

Re: Export only DNA linked relatives
I notice that the query Relations, Excluding Relations by Marriage does include adopted children. There are three such children in my data. Two of these certainty do not have any blood relationship to me but for the third I do not know.

Re: Map usages
When I first tried Grandfather's map I did not get the map (using Chrome) but now it is fine.
One curiosity: the marriage to Florence is being plotted just west of the junction of the A5 and the M1 instead of Middlesex! I have not had time to check others.

Re: Cannot get two computers to match
Mike
Thank you for your quick and helpful response. I had read the Help and Advice pages but quite overlooked checking that I had updated FH to match the donor version.
Your seemingly tireless and energetic work putting users like myself straight is amazing, thanks so much.

Re: Cannot get two computers to match
I have a need to use the Backup and Restore Family Historian Setting plug-in to copy the FH settings on my Laptop to a new hard drive on my Desktop computer. I have downloaded the plug-in to both computers and have incurred two problems using it. The first and minor one happened when setting up the ...

I have a diagram with over 2500 people which displays all generations without any problem so I doubt that the number of people is the problem.
Another reason why there can be many more boxes than people is that the All Relatives diagram uses proxies.

Property Box Tabs: Census UK
Tatewise. If I enter a census date into the Census UK tab in FH V4.1 the Facts tab has LOTS of blank entries in addition to one with the date. If I enter, say, the occupation without entering the date then this is not recorded in the Census UK tab but produces many blank occupation Facts with just o...

Property Box Tabs: Census UK
Tatewise - with much trepidation I managed to install the Census UK tab in FH V4.1 (not something I have done before!) and I have to report that it displays exactly as expected.

Ancestors and Descendants diagram in V5
I do not think there is any difference in the behaviour of this diagram in either V4 or V5. I still have V4 on one computer and I cannot get it to produced this diagram without showing the siblings of the chart root person. Would someone kindly explain how they achieved it in V4 please. I agree that...

Ver 5 Probs Photo Loading
I do not know if this has any bearing on makai problem? Using V5 on my quite fast (but getting old) desktop with Windows XP I constructed an All Relatives diagram with some 1300 people and photos where available, some being cutouts. It took about 20 seconds to display. I then produced the same diagr...

The last word looks like Pit - compare it with 'Pits' on the top line - so it reads '...Waters Pit'.

Map Life Facts V1.1 feedback request
I have tried Map Life Facts V1.1 on both Windows XP and 7, both Home editions, 32 bit, fully updated and with Windows Firewall and both have performed OK except that I can make FH crash on both versions. Having loaded Map Life Facts I have then gone to Help. If I close Help using the Close Window bo...

Images from Ancestry
I have downloaded many images from Ancestry - I right click on the image in Ancestry and select the first items 'Save Image to...' then select the folder, enter a file name and click save. It is then necessary to link your image in the usual way.
I hope this helps.

File Hierarchy External File Links
I am grateful for the explanation about absolute and relative file paths. This explains a lot. I have not been able to find any reference in Help or 'Getting the Most from Family Historian 4' to this. My problem is that relative paths do not comply with Gedcom 5.5 so other software using a file prep...
