Re: Problem with Custom Text Scheme
Thanks Mike that's fixed it.
I found the only one I had ticked was the 1911 one, which explains why that one didn't get the error. I have raised a support ticket with Calico Pie and will update it with what you found.

Relation to head of family in 1851 census
I came across this today. It looks like Thebe James is described as Nurse Child, does the FHUG community agree with this reading? transcription.PNG Assuming Nurse Child is correct, does anyone have any idea what a Nurse Child is? As can be seen in the line above Thebe, Ann Wilkins is described as fo...

Re: Problem with Custom Text Scheme
Thanks Jane and Mike. I can't remember if I copied the fht file from my FH4 install into the Text Scheme custom folder for FH6 or if FH6 automatically imported it. I suspect the former as it had a problem with the census flags that were one character longer in FH4 and the text scheme complained abou...

Problem with Custom Text Scheme
I have a text scheme I created when I used FH4 that I use to help me identify areas to research. It uses flags to write BMD and 2 digit census years on the bottom line of individual boxes on a diagram. I can then easily see which items I am missing. BMD%20flags%201.PNG The code for the BMD part is =...

Re: Make one Box larger than all others in a Diagram
Text scheme change works a treat, thanks. I will probably also stretch the box to add a bit more white space.

Make one Box larger than all others in a Diagram
I am making an Ancestor and Descendent Diagram for my grandmother and would like the box for her to be larger than all others. I am thinking there may be a way to do this with a text scheme so that if the record number matches her then all the fonts in the box will be twice the size, which will forc...

PDF file output is not enabled
Trying to save a Diagram as a pdf and I get this. Capture.PNG In FH4 there used to be Novapdf but I see on http://www.family-historian.co.uk/downloads/extras that this was only needed for FH4.1. I have searched help and cannot find anything. I also tried to reinstall the upgrade from FH4 file in cas...

I would prefer that but as I said the living are more difficult than the dead.trevorrix wrote:I would say that the solution is not to hide the truth. Divorced parents are still blood relatives of their children no matter what happened to their relationship after the birth of the children.

Re: Children of ex partners in Diagrams
I have answered my own question. If I set Spouse options to all Spouses on the right then I can hide ex partners without hiding the children.

Children of ex partners in Diagrams
I want to create a Descendant Diagram for my grandmother to show her whole extended family. The problem I have is that some of her children/grandchildren have been married more than once and I want to hide their ex partners without hiding the children of the marriage (the living are much more diffic...

Re: Same Sex Marriage
Thanks Mike, good to know there are some familiar names on the forum after my long absence. I will look into the Sex() function. I know what you mean about the two age tags not being very visible, I was really asking to see if anyone had found a way round it. My son is currently the File Root , it a...

Same Sex Marriage
I have not used FH in a long time due to other events in my life taking priority, however as my daughter got married recently I wanted to record her wife. I knew this was supported in FH6 so I upgraded from FH4 to FH6.2.2. I found it was easy to enter her wife, but found a few strange things and am ...

I wish someone had told me . . . When I started
Use the one source per census entry method, not the one per census year method. I decided to change five years ago when I already had 250 census events entered and it took me six months to re-enter them and clean out all the old references. If I hadnt used Gedcom Census I would probably still be do...

2011 UK census No Middle Name
I am going to write in my middle name and be done with it. After all there are some people who have double barrelled first names like Billy Ray or Mary Jane. My real name is David Brown and I estimate there are between 3000 and 10000 of us in the country. They may not record my name into the data th...

Multiple wedding dates
Thanks both for your replies. My memory is not what it used to be, I know I have to add another birth event on an Individual to get a second birth date, but for some reason didn't think I should add a second marriage event to a family. It was Family as Spouse I meant I didn't want twice, nothing a...

Multiple wedding dates
Why is it I can add multiple possible dates for an individuals birth, but only one for a marriage, is it a GEDCOM restriction? My uncle gave me a date for the marriage of my grandparents, but it does not agree with the BMD indexes. I would like to put both dates in until I get a copy of the certi...

want ONE diagram/chart, NOT multiple
I actually like the Everyone diagram and think it is very underrated. The biggest problem is the time it takes to get it sorted in the first place. This involves a lot of tree moves to get the different trees where you want them. Once you have done this it is very good for moving around your whole f...

Remove all Multimedia and Source links
Im not sure if you are trying to delete all Sources and Multimedia or just some of them. If you want to delete them all it can be done in one hit with the Split Tree Helper. Save a copy of your data first in case of human error. Then open Split Tree Helper under the File Menu, leave it set to Do ...

Transcribing certificate details

Marriage solemnized by Banns in the ...
Cine
Thanks all for the various suggestions, I will work on a combination of them. Whatever I do will be a balance between allowing general viewing, and documenting for family history purposes. The documentation side needs to be unobtrusive, but not so hidden that no one knows it is there.
Cine
I have just started converting my father's old cine films to DVD and am wondering how best to note who the individuals are. For example when I played it to my mother there was a woman I couldn't identify and she told me it was my great aunt Pat. I don't want to add a commentary because I am not a TV...

Editing Diagram Text Scheme
I should add that I also agree with Chris and Nick above that the standard layout is much clearer. If you use my template or an edited version of it there may be errors that I have not foreseen (on top of the multiple married spouse, ancestor trees and one box per marriage errors that I have pointed...
