Re: Exporting Gedcom file to Family Tree DNA

Just to say that FTDNA. will be releasing myFamilyTree 2.0 as from the 18th November. And also improving the family tree tools over the next few months. Not sure exactly what GEDCOM facts will be imported into FTDNA when the rollout is complete but suspect that may well be changed from what is there...

Don't know about BUGS in old features being fixed or not, but definitely looks like some items from the wish list will be appearing in Version 7.

Re: A photo from RootsTech

Being at RootsTech myself, have seen presentation of what is new and improved for Version 7. Can safely say that I for one will almost certainly upgrade to take advantage of some of the new features and I suspect that most other users will as well. (Some features I may not use but other users almost...

Samuel Haw(e)s Marries

Emily Greengrass - May 8th 1859 in Ditchingham.
Mary Dunnet - Sep 9th 1866 in Ditchingham.

Both Emily and Mary Ann are spinsters upon their Marriage to Samuel.

Both entries can be found in Norfolk Marriages on FMP.

With a little bit of Jiggery Pokery with the Text Scheme on Diagrams, can be displayed properly, except seem to end up with a superfluous B.C. hanging around. Change Note Field

I presume I need a plugin to do what I want, but not sure how to write the code as haven't tried writing any plugins yet. Basically what I have in the Census Note Field is the relationship as given on the Census (e.g. Head/Wife/Son/Daughter etc). Have now decided to change how I record data. Could u...

Re: Using OS Map refernces in Map

Found this site, which gives the functions needed to convert Lat/Long into a Grid Reference.
Would definitely need a Plugin to do the Conversion. Not sure if this would help.

If you go to http://www.gazetteer.org.uk/index.php They have over 50,000 entries. And they give OS Map Ref and the Latitude and Longitude as well. You can also purchase for £15 a complete copy of the data in csv format. They do allow downloading a demo version of the Data which is the first 1809 ent...

Re: Research Advice for a Newbie

I would also suggest contacting your nearest Family History Society, and see if they have a Research Centre you can visit. I believe that most do. Most would have access to at least FMP and Ancestry and also you can talk to the Volunteers and they would guide you in what records you need to view and...

Extract from 1850 Census Act to enable the 1851 Census to take place. 1851Census.PNG I would suggest that the Sunday date is correct, as that is the Date of which the information is required, not that of when it was collected. Although that does mean I have my 1841 Census date wrong but all others c...

Basically you need to access them from the properties of the person, not the properties of the media, as they relate to the person.

Re: Diagram Box Options for Marriage

It is possible to show Marriage in both Male and Female at the same time.
Just need to change the Options as described by Mike.

Also depends on whether you are looking at Ancestors or Descendants. As by default the Marriage info is shown in the Descendants Spouse Box whether that be Male or Female.

I suggest that everyone reads these notes regarding Counties and how formed http://www.gazetteer.org.uk/notes.php as there is a lot of difference between a "Historic County" (eg. Lancashire, Middlesex etc) which has never been abolished or boundaries changed and an "Administrive County" (E.g. Mersys...

The simplest way is to use File->Import/Export->Export-Gedcom and the select who you want by use of a Query. In your case use the Ancestor Query and should then give you exactly what you want.

Re: Real Conundrum/Teaser

There is a known problem with the latest GRO Index. In that in some circumstances which are proven the age given at Death, should be an age in Months/Weeks/days etc rather than Years. So is possible that the 1861 Death is for someone aged 21 Months, which would bring into play the Birth registered Q...
