All Relatives Diagram
On the other hand, if the the starting person is a direct ancestor of your father then you may not be displaying sufficient generations on the diagram. If you right click on a blank bit of the diagram, choose 'Diagram Options' and make sure that the 'General' tab is selected you can reset the numbe...

Printing all family tree as a report
I might have misread your post! If you're interested in changing the number of generations a report prints than that too is possible - click options from the report page to open the report options dialogue, make sure that the Main tab is selcted and set an appropriate number in the box (the maximum ...

Printing all family tree as a report
Rohaise, I presume that you're looking at a diagram and that you can only see a couple of generations because that's the default. There's no limit to the number of generations that can be displayed by Family Historian. If you right click on the diagram and select 'diagram options' then the 'diagram...

Changing Text Size in Diagrams
Right click on the diagram, choose Diagram Options and then the Text Tab. You can choose any of the pre-defined text schemes. If one is suitable then fine, otherwise you need to edit the most appropriate. Click the edit button and set the intitial font to whatever is appropriate (you can easily expe...

CD/Website creation was only included in version 3, so, assuming that you're using that version, File/Make a Family Tree CD should get you started. There's more in Chapter 17 of the Manual and the on-line help. You will finish up with a set of files which will open in a web-browser.

Emailing large diagrams
I think that rather than going for a jpeg file you might do better to select the enhanced metafile option from the File/Save Diagram As menu. If you make sure that you select Actual Size (100% zoom) then it will probably be OK. These files open by default in the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer (at ...

Printing the tree to pdf is fine if you want to the recipients to print out the file. If they are going to view it on screen then they will see the file page by page, which isn't very helpful. If you want them to see the file on screen then you're better off exploring the options in File/Save Diagr...

birth and baptism
I think that it's largely an individual decision. I was baptised at 3 months old and both of my children were six months old. (I really must ask my wife when she was baptised!) and this colours my thinking. My father, on the other hand, was baptised at 2 weeks old. Also, I have an implied understand...

birth and baptism
If all you have is a date of baptism then the only thing you are sure of is that the person was alive on that day. Therefore using the 'before' option is the most suitable one, although strictly speaking it should read 'on or before' but that's getting too pedantic even for me!. I always use this s...

Things I'd like to see
I share Gerry's experience. In fact I didn't think that they would accept my most recent correction which concerned an illegible page no for a marriage ref. I happened to know the spouse, where the page number was clear and told them so. I though that they didn't accept circumstantial evidence, but ...

Question re Ancestry FreeBMD Marriage Index
What Jane says is quite correct, although sometimes there may be more, but either way ideally there should be an equal number of males and females. Where there isn't is due to the fact that 1) the transcripion isn't complete (although with marriages before 1900 that's getting to be unlikely) or 2) t...

Obsolete Names in File Drop Down Box
This cropped up a few months back - see http://www.fhug.org.uk/cgi-bin/index.cgi?action=forum&board=v3usage&op=display&num=2453 for more details, but in short I would recommend CCleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com), a wonderful free product which can empty the 'most recently used' (MRU) lis...

Mother's name on child's birth certificate
Having just checked a couple of my certificates (1911 and 1956) it is the maiden or unmarried name which is required, so you're looking for French.
Guess you've found it!

Don't forget that you're looking at the date of baptism, not birth. In my own family I have documented evidence of 'children' being baptised in their mid teens, and two or three children baptised at the same time (was there a discount for quantity?)

WW2 Evacuation
There's a useful site at http://www.historylearningsite.co.uk/evaucuation_WW2.htm which includes a transcript of a government advice leaflet issued in 1939. It says 'The government have accordingly made plans for the removal from what are called evacuable areas to safer places called reception a...

I think you should visit the Office of Public Sector Information web site at http://www.opsi.gov.uk/advice/crown-cop ... isters.htm for the official point of view.
Section 8d seems to be the most relevant.
