Re: Alternatives to Ancestral Sources?
Hi, You may want to check out the Knowledge base on this web site, it has some excellent guides to explain what FH itself does, and then how Ancestral Sources is (or can be) used to aid in your data entry, as it appears you may have missed understood the relationship between the tools and what they ...

Re: Using fh to list military?
Hi, I am not sure what you are trying to record/document exactly on your military project, but I have used a number of different customer events/attributes to record different aspects of my relative service, as when I looked at there are a number of different 'events' that occur for the person. So I...

Re: Ancestry tree problem
Hi Nicola, as Mervyn mentioned this is a feature of the Mac OS and Safari, its not a problem on Ancestry. Safari/OS is detecting the field is a 'name' field (I would guess they look at tag names in the web page), and then tries to be helpful and auto-complete the data entry for you. Ancestry have no...

Their charts do look novel, and a few satisfy some New Wish List Requests :- 14232|Most Recent Common Ancestor (MRCA) report satisfied by Trellis chart. 14700|X DNA Diagram Wish List item Ref 556 X Chromosome DNA Ancestor Diagram satisfied by DNA charts. Re: "Shires" and "Counties"
Hi Bob, Irrespective of the county name containing 'shire' or not at the end, in my own view in the UK we don't normally include the work 'county' as part of the place name, it only tends to be used when referring to bodies/organisations. So for example, Essex is the county and just referred to as t...

Thanks Mike, That's a lot closer :-) But I was really looking for something more aligned to the standard diagrams, where I could control the number of generations, and use all the standard 'box controls' including icons, like this :-) X DNA.jpg Please don't worry about trying to adjust your custom d...

Re: X DNA Diagram
Hi Mike,
Thanks but not really, I am looking for a tree diagram rather than a Fan chart, as that is a lot clearer to follow when picking out individuals/branches.

X DNA Diagram
Following on from my earlier Wish list request 14232|Most Recent Common Ancestor (MRCA) report for an MCRA diagram/report facility to help with my DNA investigations, I have now identified another diagram type that would be really helpful, one that displays possible ancestors from which the selected...

Re: Create new template - Electoral Roll
Mike The problem is that if you create a new census template it requires a date for the template, of course with an electoral roll you would want to input the date not have a fixed date. Any thoughts? What I have found is that if you go to the front of the 'book' for the UK electoral rolls it has a...

Re: Trf FH to Mac computer from usb stick?
Hi Barb,
I have been running FH on Parallels for a number of years, first on Vista and now Windows 10. The main thing is to make sure that you have plenty of memory so you can split it between the MAC and Windows with each having a decent amount to run.

Re: Most Recent Common Ancestor (MRCA) report
Another possible option is to use a simple query to find the common ancestor for the people you want then do an All relatives diagram for that person and use the "Family Connection Mapper" to add in the Three Routes. Agreed it's not a one button solution but it is possible. Another option...

HI Mike,
Still no joy even changing that option, and restarting the program. The option is only available until you change one of the people in the how related dialog, and then it gets disabled.

[Wish List ref 560] Most Recent Common Ancestor (MRCA) report
After recently getting my DNA tested, I am finding that it would be nice to have a version of the ‘how related tool’ that goes a bit further to help with the identification of DNA connections. Rather than just showing a diagram of how two individuals are related, I would like a version of the report...

I have a 'shortcut' on the task bar, but if you also find the actual program (from start bar Richard click and do open file location) you can get the properties.Fruitbat wrote:2. Richard - Where are you when you click on the FH icon? I don't get a properties option in all the places I've tried.

Have you tried the compatibility settings (from right clicking the FH icon, and selecting properties, then the 'Compatibility Tab') ? There is an option for disabling some scaling options on higher DPI displays.

Hi, you don't need any additional plugins, as Ancestral sources will handle Scottish censuses with no problem. You can either a) create your own template for the census, or b) in the knowledge base/downloads there are some templates that have already been created. As for images, you don't have to at...

Re: Using a laptop or notebook for Family Historian
There's a little utility called magicISO that can be used to mount a disc image as a virtual cd drive. It might be enough to fool the NBI software. You will need to create a .iso copy of the original cd though. I have tried that trick previously on my MAC, that doesn't have a CD drive, and it will ...

Multiple 'Census' templates for a given Year
Hi Nick, Whilst using AS to enter an entry from the 1939 Register, it has become apparent, that a lot of the more recent Census can have multiple document layouts (e.g 1911 i have the regular census page, a different page for the army and another for the Navy, in the 1939 register i have a different...

I think DonF is prehaps, clouding the response here about data storage...... All the data for people/families/events etc is stored in the GEDCOM file as mentioned by others in this post. Its only what i would call user preferences/customisations that are not store within the GEDCOM, which i think is...

Re: Transferring a detailed Family Tree from a PC to a Mac
Hi Phil, If you go with a program like Parallels, to run windows on your MAC (which is what i do) one feature that is has is that if you link the two computers via a network (or i think you can use a USB cable now), you can completly clone the existing PC/Windows set-up as a virtual machine. This is...
