Re: Relation Pool Number: Caution
Each time an individual or a relationship between two individuals is added or deleted, the pool numbers can potentially change. I would speculate that because it could take FH an appreciable time (in computer terms) to run through all its relationships to update the pool numbers, it does so in the b...

Re: Research note confusion
Michael there seems to be no indication of the linked person. In the records window, select the Research Note that you are interested in. View- > Record Links will show all the records that link to the research note, and it is the number of those that appears in the links column. Links the other way...

Re: Multiple Citations One Source
You're not the first to find this aspect of FH7 tricky. Have you looked at Sources and Citations in Version 7 (for New Users) in the Knowledge Base, where you will find comprehensive guidance?

Re: Scaleable Vector Graphic (SVG) output for charts
Colin I would suggest that this suggestion is maybe split into two parts one to create an SVG as a chart output option. This would certainly be a good start. I would also argue that linking from a box on a chart to the individual text file is important, otherwise all you get is "yet another gra...

Re: Scaleable Vector Graphic (SVG) output for charts
Colin One thing to consider though is that some CMS systems, like Wordpress, do not allow SVG images by default due to the inherent security risk that such code causes. It is certainly the case that SVG files can potentially contain unsafe code, and that is why Wordpress has this restriction. But th...

So what happens next? What is the process that gets this suggestion onto the wish list so that people can vote for it?

Re: Ancestors diagram with siblings
Ron,
Use an All Relatives diagram, with the Generations Down option set to 1.
You may need to tweak the diagram to hide descendents of siblings etc.

Re: Refresh books causing FH7 to close
They requested that I send them a copy of my entire tree which I was not happy to do I recently reported a different intermittent problem where FH was shutting down unexpectedly. CP asked me to attempt to reproduce the problem on the sample project, which I was able to do. Could you do the same? Alyn

CP have responded with this:

If you are asked to activate every time you start Family Historian, that certainly would indicate a problem of some kind. But a one-off occurrence of the kind you describe (if it is a one-off) does not mean that there is a problem.

Activation required unexpectedly
I started up FH this morning, and was surprised by this: Screenshot.jpg I installed FH7 in December, I have not reinstalled. FH started up normally when I signed in. Does anyone know what is going on here, bearing in mind the words on the dialogue "You only have to do this once"? Thanks Alyn

Re: Scaleable Vector Graphic (SVG) output for charts
Helen, Yes I did investigate it - it was mentioned here not long ago, so I downloaded it and gave it a go. IMO its capabilities are way below what FH can offer in terms of producing trees (and the text that goes with them), and it was that experience which led me to think about what should be in thi...

On Hold until 22 Dec 2024: Scaleable Vector Graphic (SVG) output for charts
This is a proposal for a wish list item for saving or exporting a FH chart in SVG (Scaleable Vector Graphics) format. The idea came to mind when I started to migrate from a print-based presentation of my family history to a web-based version. I found that the complex, multi-page charts that I had pr...

Re: New individual as witness
it's a nuisance to have to interrupt the creation of a marriage event to create these people, then go back to the marriage to add them as witnesses. On reflection, FH would have to open a new property box for the new witness while keeping track of the original marriage event. In turn, that property...

New individual as witness - FH7
When I attempt to add a witness to a marriage event, FH insists that I select an existing individual: Untitled.jpg In my experience, witnesses who pop up on marriage records are likely as not new individuals - so I find it's a nuisance to have to interrupt the creation of a marriage event to create ...

Re: Displaying Page URL (not Site URL) in source citations
Simon I didn't bother with the 'Date' field as the FreeBMD records only seem to be based around an approximate 3 month period so I just enter 'circa' if I'm using the info for someone's birth date. This is because the Registration Indexes only state in which quarter an event was registered. FH's dat...

Re: Nested function sentence template
Robert,
Try this:
{=TextIf (ContainsText(%FACT.PLAC%, "Bronx", STD), "the Bronx", %FACT.PLAC%)}
In your example, you were comparing %FACT.PLAC% with the result of =ContainsText() which is a boolean.

New individual as witness
I have just located a marriage record, and recorded the details in FH. When I attempt to add the witnesses ( not name-only witnesses, because I suspect in this case that they are relatives of the bride and groom), the select individual record opens, but there is no prior option to enter a new indivi...

"Past tense" field in New Role dialogue
Can anyone explain what this field is for? Untitled.png I can't create a new role without specifying some value for it, but I don't see it anywhere after that. The dialogue says that it appears in the fact tab of the property box, but I don't see it there, but even if it did, what purpose does it se...
