Re: Data refs in diagrams
Mike, Thankyou for that - it worked just as I wanted. Now I can separate my Baronets from my Earls  Actually I used it to show the progression of a Baronetcy through a family. (unfortunately the Baronetcy did not end with me :o ) I have no experience with IT and so a lot of this is new to me. W...

Re: Data refs in diagrams
Mike, Thanks for that explanation and the expression. I thought that I had tried that before posting but perhaps I made a typo. I am happy using the data ref assistant (I used it to create the civil war expressions) but it was the value part that stumped me. Is there a way to test for part of the va...

Data refs in diagrams
I have added a data ref to the box tab of a diagram. %INDI.TITL% This works fine and I use it to add a coloured border line around relevant boxes where the individual has a title recorded using the standard fact "Title" and using the person's title eg 2nd Baronet of Lamport as a value. I a...

Re: strange behaviour in Books
I have been doing a little more work on my book and have managed to "cure" the problem outlined in my earlier posts. In "edit book" I have opened the "edit" pane for one of the affected pages to show the "select chart pages" panel. I select "options"...

Re: Icons in diagrams V6.2
I use the source assessment to mark as "primary" where I have a BMD certificate or have [or have seen] a copy of the parish register [but not a transcript that is "secondary" evidence]. I then use an expression to test for the assessment of the source and if it is "primary&q...

Re: strange behaviour in Books
I have had a reply from Calico Pie about the strange behaviour in Books that I reported. They say there is an issue in the programme which will be fixed in the next version of FH. I seems to me that one of the bonuses of FH is the direct access that users have to the programme authors. Thank you Cal...

Re: strange behaviour in Books
Thanks Mike, I have checked the monitor and the graphics card driver and both are reported to be up to date. I have recently replaced the computer hard drive with an SSD and re-installed the O/S [Win 8.1] and all of my programmes. I cannot say if this problem was present before these alterations. I ...

strange behaviour in Books
I am starting to prepare a book but am experiencing very strange behaviour in some of the pages. Some of the chapters I have started with a portrait of the person by using the method blank diagram, save as chart etc. then insert the chart into the book. I set the page format as "chapter". ...

Re: Change from Flags to Expressions for Diagram Icons
I use the quality assessment of the source to determine whether or not a marker should be present. Primary assessment is the only one that generates a marker. A typical expression that I use is =IsTrue(%INDI.BAPM.SOUR.QUAY% = "Primary evidence") So for me baptism primary evidence would be ...

Sailor,
When viewing the diagram click on "diagram" on the top toolbar [or right click on the diagram itself].
Then select "options" at the bottom of the list presented.
then on the "general" tab untick the box "check for duplicates"

Re: Timeline to aid research
Brent, You say that Tapscott is a fairly unusual name but I have come across it in my research. You probably know this but a Robert Tapscott heroically survived in an open jolly boat after his vessel SS Anglo Saxon was sunk in WW2 by a German ship Widder. My interest is that my 3rd cousin once remov...

Re: Entering information
Could you create a named list and then add to it any BMD certs where you have not yet identified witnesses. Then later you could periodically look through the list to see if you have now added a particular witness name. If so you can delete that certificate from the list.

Re: Images of Residences
My preferred solution to this would be the ability to attach media to addresses as is possible with places. This is a wish list item which I have voted for. Perhaps this will be present in V7 when it is released. As an aside, with many of us confined to our homes, the release of FH v7 would give us ...

In the records window for sources select the redundant source and then hit the keyboard delete key or go "edit" then select "delete". To be sure that the source is not used go "view" then "record links".

Re: Media in books
Mike, I have added the first two media images to my book and it was a complete success. I used the blank diagram method. This gave me plenty of scope to make adjustments to position and size etc and also to add a title. I am very pleased with the result and shall now add more media to my book. many ...

Re: Media in books
Mike, I have not yet had time to try any of your suggestions, I was just assembling the tools to have a go at the problem. I have Irfanview and Wordpad so have something to work with. I have images of 18th century indictment and inquest and although I have a transcript of these the real thing, which...

Re: Media in books
Mike,
Thanks for those suggestions. I had thought of trying to use a blank diagram but I thought I would ask first in case there was an obvious way.
I don't have a word processor programme, can you recommend a free one? I shall also pursue the blank diagram method.
many thanks ----- Peter

Media in books
I have finally decided to write a book, just for fun with no intention of publishing. I worked through the tutorial and have made reasonable progress starting the book. I wish to add media into the book but cannot find a way to do it. I can add media if it is linked to an individual or a source but ...

Re: Attach Media
Similar to Mike I download images to a separate folder. I use the "public" folder that is within FH. This has the advantage that it is part of the FH back-up regime and so does not get lost.

Re: Stopping Age Count
The earlier versions of FH included a manual which used a tutorial format. I found that very helpful and worked through it section by section making sure that I fully understood. This feature does not seem to be part of the version 5 manual which is a pity.

Ron,
Click on the source in the source list and then go "view" and then select "record links" This will give a list of all individuals using that source.
