Version 5 - Strange 1st time load

It might be a bit more complicated than that. I loaded v.4, validated - no errors. Upgraded to v.5 - 3 errors on initial load automatically corrected - validated subsequently - no errors. Closed v.5 without making my project the default and reloaded - 3 errors as before. Did this twice more with the...

A ';Find My Past'; favour please

Dagwood - I think that to search on folio number etc in Ancestry you have to use the old search form. Click on 'Search' 'Search All Records' and then click on 'Go to old search' near the top right of the screen. Then select the census search and you should see the option you need. Remember to click ...

That would enter the text into the 'text from source' box, surely? I wish to enter the source text via an autotext template AND enter text into the 'where within source' box.

';Where within source'; citations

I'm getting down to using AS to input baptisms at long last. I use a single source for each parish e.g. 'Parish Records of St Just in Roseland, Cornwall' and like to use a 'where within source' citation e.g. 'FP 96/1/5; baptisms 1813-1852 fiche 2 of 3; #89'. I don't think I can do this in AS using m...

Merchant Seaman : Is he mine?

I would say that's enough evidence to be convinced he's who you think he is. I spent yesterday trawling through the records and found 2 records clearly relating to the same relation which gave different birth dates. Unfortunately, no sign of my father or great uncle (the one who seems to have vanish...

Res Privata amp; 64 bit Windows

I'm almost positive that I originally downloaded it direct from Naiborly Software and didn't get it from a magazine. Anyway, I'll rescue it from the recycle bin and pass it on to Jane.

Res Privata amp; 64 bit Windows

Curious. I was trying to run version 2.4.1 which resolutely fails to respond to any attempt to install it even in compatibility mode. I've just downloaded version 2.2.1 from FHUG and it runs with no problems at all. 2.4.1 has a setup program and associated DLL(s) whereas 2.2.1 is just an executable ...

Can anyone confirm whether RP will or can be made to work on the 64 bit version of Windows 7? My system seems to think its incompatible.

Sourcing new individuals added in AS

Nick, Would it be possible to add an option to assign an entered census as a name and/or whole record source for newly added individuals in a future release?

Many thanks for all the hard work. AS is a fantastic enhancement to what was already an invaluable product.

Place of Marriage

I put the place down as the town, village, parish etc and insert the venue, if known, as an address (church, chapel, synagogue, register office etc). I suspect this is the method most people use.

Localise config settings within projects

Having just gone through the agonies of reinstalling everything on a new PC after the sudden death of the old, I couldn't agree more. You think you've got all your data and settings safely backed up - but there is always something you've missed - in my case the standard diagram settings. I wish it w...

My own (possibly quirky and convoluted) method is to attach a note record to the source which just says unchecked. That way if, say, you attach the source to individuals at the whole record level, tou can easily set up a query to pull out your unchecked records. I then apply an 'unchecked' flag to t...

Saving a colour scheme.

You might have to design a new text scheme if you want to change font sizes, but can't you just save your diagram as a custom diagram type and edit that?

Individuals with same Source Type

It should be possible in v4 to do something with a Fact query with a row filter of Add if %FACT.SOUR[1]>_TYPE% contains ['Source Type'] where 'Source Type' has been set as a parameter. Column settings could then include: Fact Owner:     =FactOwner(%FACT%,1,MALES_FIRST) Fact Name:      =FactName(%FAC...

Subgroups in sources list

I do use the 'Type' field, but when selecting a source record the dialog box only allows sorting in one direction

_left_click on the column header should sort in reverse order.

Text in Narrative Reports

Tabbing is font and size dependent so, unless you are using the same font & size in reports as in Gedcom census or your source note (which you almost certainly will not be), your tabs won't line up. Unfortunately there isn't an easy work around within FH at the moment, unless I'm missing somethi...

Everyone will have their own way of doing this. What I do is have three sources; GRO Birth, Marriage & Death indices. Whenever these sources are cited by events I put the reference (e.g. GRO Ref: 1980/q3 Truro 21 414) in 'where within source' in the citation and (if I remember!) the age at death...

puzzling 1871 Census record

In the 1861 census (RG9/1524/57/8), Grace Hore aged 3 is living with her mother Ann, a tailor's wife aged 32, in the village of Hessenford near St Germans in Cornwall. In 1867, Ann Hore, aged 42, died at St Germans (1867/q3 St Germans 5c 27). In 1870 William Hore married Mary Elliott at Stoke Damera...

Finding text using expressions

Can't you achieve something like you want by using row filter parameters? I have queries set up to display events by place using filters like:

Add if%INDI.BIRT[1].PLAC% contains ['Birthplace']

where 'Birthplace' is a parameter.

Possibly, this isn't what you are looking for?

Project Files

Double clicking on the project file or on the Gedcom file in the project data folder both fire up the project in FH fine for me under Vista. Two possible caveats are that I only have one project (having deleted the sample project) and that I have moved the project folder.
