Re: Change name

You could either re-enter them in AS or manually create the table in the source text in Family Historian. I recommend you watch the video Ancestral Sources Introduction . This goes through how to create a census entry in Ancestral Sources and shows you where the data then appears afterwards in Famil...

Re: Change name

Thanks for the replies. The reason I mention Census, I was aware that it is there for for other entries, is because the family I have been tracing have chosen to give different Last Names for almost every one. They are a family composing of many illegitimate individuals and seemed to use any family...

Re: Source Template Editor defaults

I've always been aware that having the same assessment recorded for every fact citation created for a particular source type might not always be appropriate. I can think of ways that AS could be adapted to allow this although it would be a bit messy and complicate the recording process. Probably by ...

Re: Source Template Editor defaults

Nick; In trying to mimic the Source Titles in A.S., I found that {ImageInfo} cannot be passed to a template. This means that user templates cannot create the same default source title as A.S. As the help page says: {IMAGEINFO}: Only available for image title templates. When adding a new image using...

Re: Manual Reload of FH

It's quite an unusual message to see (I've never seen it before) because generally you should be clicking Save in Family Historian before you switch over to AS. I can reproduce the message if I have, for example, the preferences window open in FH when I switch over. In those circumstances you could ...

It indicates that your 'root person' is a descendant of Robert and Marjorie in your screenshot. The root person is the person who is displayed in the focus window when you click the home button on the toolbar. In my tree I'm the root person so if I see that down arrow it reminds me that the person i...

Re: Error message when saving back to FH

The usual set of steps for using AS at the same time as FH is that [step 1] you save your project in Family Historian, then [step 2] add your entry in Ancestral Sources and click save. Then [step 3] if you make Family Historian your active application by clicking on it, Family Historian will notice ...

Re: Question about user-template configurations

You can use the same source template to each of the different source types (Census, Birth, Baptism), etc. and each can have different field values specified. But you can't link a source template twice to one of those source types. If there was a field in your template that could distinguish between ...

Re: Residence date range help

Each time I find a source which gives evidence of residence of an individual I record a separate residence (or census) fact for each (each with a citation linking it to the source record). I think of these as being markers for me that there is a source that indicates they lived in this place on this...

Re: Record window anomaly

Slightly off-topic (but only a little), I've always been frustrated that clicking on a column that is sorted in ascending order doesn't then flip it to be descending like it does in most applications I use. I can never remember which of the control keys I need to hold down when clicking so end up tr...

Re: Monumental Inscriptions - thoughts?

AS is generally about recording sources that refer to individuals in your family historian project. You may of course have occasional people in sources that you record with AS where you don't create them as individuals such as marriage witnesses or lodgers in a census, etc. but that will usually be ...

Presumably the cron job is running a routine that then sends the emails. Is it possible that this routine is set to restart if it times out (or something like that) and for some reason it timed out twice today?

Re: Monumental Inscriptions - thoughts?

I know that I'm late to the party! This would be a great addition to AS, but I'm hoping that it will be able to accommodate the tomb-style memorials which often have inscriptions on each side (of which I have several). Perhaps there could be an option to "Add Another" to allow the panels ...

Re: Monumental Inscriptions - thoughts?

If a gravestone has 'Here lies the body of'. Then the source is saying that they were buried there. So quite reasonably this can lead to a burial fact being created with the place/address recorded. As I said the estimated date would be optional. People record data in different ways, just because you...

Re: Monumental Inscriptions - thoughts?

One of the things about 'standard' graves for people who are actually buried beneath is that usually the inscription has a date of death, not burial. So the way AS will handle this I think is to offer to generate a burial fact which will have the Place/Address as the graveyard with an option to esti...

Re: AS v7.8.6 and Crossover install

This is related to the tab control that is displayed on the main screen for the non-census source types where it has Main Info, Residence, etc. The standard .net framework winforms tab control doesn't allow the tabs to have a colour to match the rest of the control so they look really odd. So the ro...

Re: Monumental Inscriptions - thoughts?

Just as a follow up Nick on my 'Memorial' fact - this came about because I found that there are occasions when a person is mentioned on a Gravestone but there is no 'proof' that the person is actually buried in that cemetery, or I actually know that the person is buried elsewhere (a prime example h...

Re: Monumental Inscriptions - thoughts?

Thanks for the responses so far. It appears that Monumental Inscription is a generally acceptable name. There are a number of different opinions regarding the Date field on the source template but I am inclined to go with the idea of the date being filled in by default only if there is just one pers...
