Re: Potential Probate Plugin
Just to mention that I am actively working on the two source types for Ancestral Sources: gravestones (MIs) and probate and making good progress now (particularly gravestones) but it will be much later in the year before these are likely to appear I think.

Re: Potential Probate Plugin
I've not really had much experience with calendar entries. Most of the wills I've used have been full original hand-written ones.

Yes I agree, this was a very helpful and interesting post from Mark.HeatherARobertson wrote: ↑26 Mar 2024 20:19 This was a fantastic tip from the above poster! Never thought of doing this, just tried it and it works perfectly. So glad I came across this post.

I agree Adrian, the terminology doesn't really matter at all. However in case you find it of interest.... The reason why I believe Ancestral Sources is a 'source driven' approach is that you are entering the details of the source, effectively transcribing the source in AS, and from that all the fac...

Re: Adding Media files.
Can I ask BillH and Nick when they developed the muscle memory for fact driven data entry in FH? Also was there no alternative when they did? The key point is that 99% of the sources I enter are birth, baptism, marriage, death, burial and Census and I enter those with AS. I could turn this round an...

Re: Adding Media files.
For the documents that AS doesn't handle for me - for example gravestones, obituaries, etc. - I create the fact first - let's say a burial fact based on an obituary. Then with that fact selected in the property box, I click the "Add Citation" in the sources box at the bottom of the screen...

Re: Adding Media files.
Please could you explain what benefit you gain by linking a census image to the fact given that from the facts tab as it's only three clicks to select the fact, open the media pane on the citation and open the image in the Editor/player? Adrian explained in his answer to me that this was an experim...

I just mean that when the rich-text is ready, just before you click save, you could highlight the text and copy it (Ctrl+C or right-click context menu) and then paste it into the rich text (Ctrl+V or right-click context menu).

Teresa, try looking in Tools, Census Templates... Then Fact, Use custom event Thanks John, sorry Teresa - wrong template. Re: Adding Media files.
If I was to hypothetically decide to start linking images to Facts (keeping in mind I already link them to Sources), is there any way in AS to do this? Having had a good look around the options, I think probably not. I understand your moral objection to linking 'fact' images to people, but does tha...

Re: Electoral Register Settings...
The answer to this really depends on what you're trying to achieve. If you use the electoral registers built into AS with generic sources then the source type will automatically change to be Electoral Register and the title too. But as you don't use generic sources I expect this isn't the issue. I e...

Hi Mike It sounds like you are using FH v7 templated sources and are using a Family Historian Census template, presumably the 'Essentials Collection Civil Census Return'. The definition for the record title for this template is: image.png When you use Templated Sources the title for the source is co...

Re: Question about lost notes
Ah OK sorry I'd misunderstood what you were doing... The conversion process is trying to find a 'grid' of data within your original source text. It uses this to populate the grid above so that this can then be inserted into the rich-text using the selected auto-text template. It reports any text tha...

Thank you all for the help. I was looking at the Outline and Narrative reports. Haven't played with it too much yet. Also, what are Ahnentafel numbers? In the FH Help it says: Ahnentafel numbers are a common system for numbering a given person’s ancestors. The person themselves is numbered 1, their...

Re: Casting template data as a particular data-type
I think the System Date was just something I added long ago following a request from a user, with the idea being it would be displayed in auto-text rather than being stored in a date field. I have already made changes to my development version of AS to allow formatting of the system date based on a...

Re: Casting template data as a particular data-type
I know this isn't what you asked but in the current version of AS, if you use the SYSTEM.DATE it displays the date in the default 'Short Date' format set in Windows. So if I go into the windows settings and set the region to English (United States) it displays the date in this format: 3/23/2024. If ...

I think you're looking in the wrong place in Family Historian. As an example I created a census source in Ancestral Sources with this in the Source Text and the Source Note: image.png And then if I look at the source in Family Historian the Source Text is shown under the Text from Source tab when I ...

Re: Copying on 1921 Census
How you paste it won't make any difference if the place you're copying from has additional spaces or tabs within it. So just paste it in to AS and then edit the reference id box to remove the spaces.

Re: Adding Media files.
However, I do think you might also be misunderstanding why some people want it. I don't see the Media Tab as a Photo Tab, it's not named that, it's the Media Tab on the Individual Property Box, so there's no real reason to restrict it to only photographs of people if that doesn't suit - it's person...

Re: Adding Media files.
From my point of view with Ancestral Sources I do like to at least feel that there is some logic to new features I'm adding. If someone asked me to add a setting to allow them to save their census entries as a baptism fact I would suggest that isn't sensible and wouldn't do it. It doesn't make any s...

Re: Copying on 1921 Census
The reference ID is just a plain text-box so it's not possible to do anything other than 'paste as plain text'. So the issue with John's example in the screenshot is with the web page that the text is being copied from. It must have some additional characters on the web page between the RG15/ and th...
