Re: Teeny tiny icons and Navigation Bar
Have you looked at Tools->Preferences->Display and then the toolbar size and some of the other settings on that screen?

Re: AS - Problem with deleting data from an automatically populated field.
It's quite shocking that mothers are not even recorded on modern England & Wales marriage certificates although I believe changes may be afoot. By default AS doesn't tick to include the mothers and does include fathers although this is controlled by options that can be set.

Re: V7 PDF creation very slow, creating huge files
I'm only guessing with my developers hat on and I may be completely wrong. But I can imagine a scenario where CP may be using a new control for reporting in FH7 which is entirely different to the one they used in the past and different to the one used for charting. And that control may have a built ...

Re: V7 PDF creation very slow, creating huge files
I don't have any inside information on this and have no knowledge as to how FH deals with the PDF conversion. But my gut feeling is that it will be a major job to get it to output in text rather than graphical form. Hope I'm wrong.

Re: Web Search Window
It's using the default home page you have set for Internet Explorer on your PC. To change it go to Windows Internet Options (in the Windows 10 search box or start menu, type Internet Options and then open the lnternet Options control panel settings). You'll see a box where you can paste in a differe...

Re: Records window customisation odd problem (FH7)
There do seem to always be a number of users who are 'starting again', going back and sourcing things properly, etc. Over the years I've come across a lot of those people who have discovered Ancestral Sources and they've decided to go back and use it re-enter their data and to ensure they record all...

Re: Records window customisation odd problem (FH7)
As I've said there may well be a good reason for it, I just don't know what it is. I don't understand why there has to be a different syntax when querying generic fields as opposed to template fields - they could surely abstract to the same syntax. Users shouldn't have to worry about this stuff, it'...

Re: Source led data entry?
Sometimes there is some confusion because there is a plugin for Ancestral Sources but that's just a method of running the actual Ancestral Sources application from within Family Historian and isn't actually required (although you may find it useful once you're using AS). So you first need to install...

Re: Records window customisation odd problem (FH7)
I must admit I've not looked at footnotes, etc. (I've had no time to really use FH for anything except testing AS) but from what he's been saying I'd assumed there was some additional formatting that wasn't available to generic sources.

Re: Records window customisation odd problem (FH7)
I think Mike just means there would be one template that would mimic the generic source fields but would give the benefits of being able to format footnotes and bibliography, etc. It would then also mean they could be easily exported.

Re: Starting FH7
Gowermick: the screenshot Rick posted is showing the .fh_data file structure, as requested by Mike. It is not showing the banner at the top of FH. I think Gowermick just means that 'Untitled Standalone GEDCOM file (limited functionality)' is the default file name while it's loading up - that's what...

Re: Starting FH7
That's what happened to me the very first time I ran the release version of Family Historian 7 back in early December. I assumed the delay was because it was checking my licence and perhaps the servers were busy etc. So I wonder if it's doing some kind of licence check?

Re: Source Template
Go to Tools->Options and tick the 'Use Template Sources' option. You'll then see an 'Edit Templated Source' link at the top of the main AS screen. Once you've entered all your data click that link and edit the fields as necessary.
I hope that helps

Sorry yes I was just adding to the general discussion about the complexities of templates and the difficulties you would have in dealing with exporting them.

Re: Records window customisation odd problem (FH7)
There are a reasonably small number of field types but each one can have different names. There would be nothing to stop a template having 20 repository fields if it wanted to I think. To add to the complication they could be citation fields or source fields.

I'd suggest asking first rather than going down the FOI route. FOI requests cause more work and are extremely annoying to deal with.

Re: Ancestral Sources Data Entry plugin issue
I have updated to AS v7.0.15 that was released last night. Before anyone picks up on this... I haven't released a new version of AS, you're one of a very small number of people who got a new Beta test version because you're in the AS beta testing group. All being well it will be released soon. I ce...

Re: Records window customisation odd problem (FH7)
I've commented elsewhere in the past that I think it's a shame that FH7 didn't just make use of the existing Repository link rather than adding an entirely FH7 bespoke repository link when using templated sources. The link from Source to Repository is a standard GEDCOM link that's been used for deca...

Re: Ancestral Sources Data Entry plugin issue
Ive just tried running AS with the command line arguments that Mike included in his reply above - I tried with different files, different source types and different individuals and each time it opened the correct file, the correct source type and with the correct individual selected. So it doesn't l...
