Re: Private Messages
FYI - as you've been the victim of abhorrent DM's/PM's on Forums, you are not 'baked in' on this forum - note there is a 'Contact' with speech bubble under your details on your reply - when clicked it opens the PM facility to contact you, so you might want to go to your settings as per the OP and t...

Re: Private Messages
Thanks Tamara As a male, I have stated, I have no real problem with the OP's intent, just that the statement that it's a reminder is wrong - we've not been told this before to my knowledge, and there is no 'rule' set anywhere I can see. FYI - as you've been the victim of abhorrent DM's/PM's on Forum...

Re: Private Messages
I am baffled by the above statement though as well. Where on the forum does it say that? I have recently had several complaints about unsolicited messages being sent via Private messages. As Helen says this worries new users. This was a reminder that sending out these sort of messages is impolite a...

Re: Private Messages
Why not? Perhaps to offer private advice if a "discussion" is getting acrimonious...? It would be perfectly reasonable to do that below the radar. This is precisely what I meant - it's happened to me. I took the conversation to PM. To ask in the forum if I could do so would have been very...

Re: Private Messages
Can I remind you that using the private messaging facility to send unsolicited messages is not allowed. Whilst I am generally in agreement with this, there are times when you couldn't ask on the forum "May I PM you". I am baffled by the above statement though as well. Where on the forum d...

Re: Saving Queries
I notice you are on v5, so not sure if it's the same, but in v7 you go to the Query button, then New Custom Query... at which point you name the query.
Once done, you can get back to it from the same Query button > All Custom Queries.... and your created query will be there to run.

Re: Questions about AS Keywords and User Templates
Gary,
By 'Role' in your last point, do you mean Occupation or have you added 'Role' to a custom template?
I've only used standard UK templates, and in Occupation I will simply add the one I am transcribing from the image I have downloaded.
Perhaps I misunderstand your meaning?

Re: Where does FH store its diagram icon files?
Mike; When I use file explorer to try to locate the "C:\ProgramData\CalicoPie\Family Historian" directory on the virtual windows 11 machine, I finally found the directory. Oddly; it seems to already have many of the typical icons that I thought we had to add. Did this change recently? [As...

Re: Unable to Save!
You say you back up to portable drive, but is your project also on that drive, or your main computer drive? If it's on the portable drive, it is possible it has gone to sleep temporarily, and wakes up when a save event happens. Remember, FH doing it's autosave, or you saving by pressing 'Save' on th...

Re: Why has my information gone public?
What is the scam though? FH does matches to FindMyPast and MyHeritage. If you don't have paid subscriptions to those sites, then they will ask you to pay to see the records, which is just the same as creating 'free' unsubscribed accounts on those websites, where you can search for records, but asked...

Yes but it's never that simple on my PC! There are different types of apps shown that mean nothing to me? For instance where is the Download app? There is no such thing as a download app. Files, whether they are pictures, documents or installation files (.exe) will be downloaded by your browser of ...

Re: Downloading
Yes it downloads as a jpg and as Opera. OK John, so same advice as your PDF viewer post, you need to open your Settings and choose what you want to open jpg files. If that was something that hasn't been re-installed, like the Acrobat Reader app, you'll need to re-install it first. Already installed...

Hi Robin Yes, you can do that. With the Chart/Diagram in view, go to the menu Diagram > Save Diagram As... > PDF File (.pdf)... Select the option shown below to output a PDF page that you can send to to your cousin to view in a PDF reader. PDF Output.jpg Follow the prompts to choose the FH PDF print...

Re: Saving Reports
I use Opera as my default browser. I was very happy with the original pdf before Adobe changed it. I've tried Firefox instead, and as Lorna says the toolbars don't show on the 'actual' document that I send to others. Cole Valley Girl, I can't remove McAfee -it's still in my toolbar as an icon even ...

When I download a transcript it seems to become an Opera document whereas before my pc reset it went into a nicer document that I could enlarge to any size? Neil, that is what I said in my original reply! John is also asking about where FH saves the PDF. Yes, correct Mike, and I noted that in my reply. No matter if John Prints or uses Save Report as, I've addressed the PDF sidebars issue that Adrian also mentioned, with screenshots that will hopefully ...

It is saving correctly as a PDF shown in the screenshot, but it is likely that Word is set as your PDF program. Perhaps Acrobat Reader has not been reinstalled? https://www.adobe.com/uk/acrobat/pdf-reader.html?mv=search&mv2=paidsearch&sdid=SGDJMC8N&ef_id=Cj0KCQiAwvKtBhDrARIsAJj-kTi-H-z5j...

Not an expert by any means, but that looks like it is showing past and present tense, and perhaps one should expect just one of those to show in the sentence, depending on their living status?

Yes you can move it. Above the tabs, click the Cog icon and select 'Customise Property Box...' Re: Ancestral Sources v7.8.3 Beta Testing (November 2023)
The new OK/Close AS button works but choosing OK adds the current Project to the File/Recent Projects list until said list is full of the same entry, making it relatively useless. No biggie as you can use the Open FH Project instead but does make it useless Not sure I follow. I only have one projec...

See the thread 21354|GEDexplorer that coincidentally has just been posted. As posted over in that thread, it isn't available for iPhone/Pad now (perhaps UK as suggested by others) For what it's worth, I use OneNote for gathering notes on lots of things, including Family research, which syncs across...

Re: GEDexplorer
Tony, FHUG KB GedExplorer links to https://www.sundin.nu/gedexplorer/ which has a link for Apple Store. Maybe your (old?) version of iOS is not supported by the current GEDexplorer version. Mike, I've just followed the link and then clicked the IOS icon on my iPhone, and the Apple store says the Ap...
