Re: Windows Media path+filename length under Parallels
Gary, I don't think I misunderstood anything about what you've said. I've had Mac Systems since 2009 running Windows Virtual Machines and all Family Historian versions, amongst other Windows software that I couldn't do without. Initially I was also using Parallels, but quickly moved to VirtualBox, a...

Re: Windows Media path+filename length under Parallels
If all FH Projects are stored in a single named Folder then FH can easily keep track of them by setting the path to that folder in the FH Project Window, but if you scatter projects/data files in numerous locations then no application is going to be able to keep track of all of them indefinitely. Un...

Re: AS v7.8.6 and Crossover install
@Valkrider, @Nick, I still mainly use Ancestral Sources (AS) via a Windows Virtual Machine, when working on Apple systems, but FWIW the last time I installed AS in Crossover I added Wine's Mono instead of MS .NET and AS seems to work much the same (hesitate to say identically as I haven't tested abs...

Mike, If it's of any interest, you can download a copy of the MacMamilyTree User Guide from https://www.syniumsoftware.com/macfamilytree/tutorials (The User Guide downloads are listed a the very bottom of the page.) I brief scan through the document will give you an impression of some of the the dif...

Re: Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings 3.6 giving errors
Gary, It may be that using the UNC path to the file location that is causing the problem. Does Parallels not allow use of the Windows Drive letter identifiers for 'networked' drive locations? It's more than 10 years since I used Parallels, so I can't remember the Parallels options, but when using a ...

Re: Windows app
It's already possible to set up a Microsoft RDP Client, or one of many other RDP Clients, on a macOS or iOS devices (and there are also plenty of existing RDP options on Linux etc.) to gain 'remote' access to a desktop Windows installation, or an Azure Virtual Desktop installation, so it's a little ...

Re: Installing FH under virtual machine on a Mac
Mike, I'll try to sort something out over in the coming week, but do want to test at least one of the main virtualisation options personally on a 'new' Silicon Mac. Having used VirtualBox for over 10 years, and still having a useable 2019/20 Intel Mac, familiarisation with 'newer' Macs and other vir...

Re: Installing FH under virtual machine on a Mac
@amk1609 To continue running Family Historian in a Windows virtual machine on a 'M' series Silicon Mac there are now a few working options, but Oracle VirtualBox is not yet one of them. Oracle's developers appear to have started their development by first working on 'emulation' rather than virtualis...

Re: [Wish List Item 626] Automatic generation of UniqueID
Yes, that I understand, but what I don't understand is that if 'some' Unique IDs are already being created by FH; and 'some' are (potentially) already being imported when bringing in external data: - What (if anything) currently triggers the creation of Individual UIDs in FH, other than importing va...

Re: Table auto-sizing
Isn't the real issue with 'resizing' table columns a possible lack of full clarity on the purposes behind the requests/questions that have been raised? Most queries/desires, to me, seem to have been related to on screen appearance, but what may seem 'right' for desktop users with ultra-high definiti...

I fully endorse the above comment and strongly suspect that the Family Historian development designer is far more likely to be influenced by the Wish List reques...

Re: Generating a source report including citation from template
Gary, This obviously got missed, but if your concern is, as you've described, the possibility of 'loss' of your FH Project and possibly the associated/linked media files, then all I'm aware of within FH are the built in project backup options, which do include the possibility of media inclusion prov...

Re: Automatic generation of UniqueID
I'm also a bit confused about what is intended by the creation of an 'additional' UniqueID and the already existing Individual RecordId which is unique within each 'Project' or GEDCOM File. To me that already appears identical to any other genealogy product where the 'UniqueID', in reality, is the t...

Re: Add religion to baptism fact
Personally, I tend to ignore an individual's 'religious affiliation' unless it is clear that they followed a specific belief by personal choice and not simply due to outside influence or compulsion, e.g. until 1791 the government of the United Kingdom required attendance at church services of the Ch...

Liz,
As no-one has yet responded to your question, can I ask for clarification on what ORA is? It is not an acronym I am familiar with in connection with family history/genealogy research; and others may also not understand.

John, The subject of UK Birth Registration has been discussed before. The 'official' requirement is for all births to be registered within 6 weeks of birth so, assuming compliance with the requirement, a registration in Quarter 4 (1 October-31 December) actually suggests a date of birth between mid-...

@cwshonk Mike is, of course, correct about the need to have a default printer set up before the FH reports can display. On Windows this is taken care of automatically by the supplied PDF Printer Driver software, but Windows Printer Drivers don't work under WINE on Linux (or macOS). On Ubuntu Linux I...

@KFN It's not clear when the conception you have described occurred but, if it was within the last 50 years, it is certainly possible (even if unlikely) that a woman could have conceived a child by her deceased husband weeks/months or even years after his death by with the use of a frozen sperm 'don...
