Media links showing as zero
I was looking to do a little housekeeping on my media files when I noticed that I have a number of instances where the number of links for a media record is showing as zero. The media item is linked to a source record, and I can see that I have linked to source to several events against an individua...

Constrained note?
By following Tools/Work with Data/Places, select a place and click Edit and then the bar to the right of Note, and the note winows title is Note (Constrained mode). What does Constrained mode signify?

Re: Unable to run reports
It appears that the amount of memory available to FH is restricted, and I am hitting that limit with a very large report. CP's recommendation is to break the report into sections, which I find a little less than helpful.

Composite websites
I've called this question composite websites as my question is this. I can see how to create a website within FH. However, I have a website that I am creating separately (and very slowly, using Microsoft Expression 4  ) that contains a significant amount of other information that provides a mu...

Just catching up with this thread. My "custom event" is simply called "Note"

Re: Unable to run reports
Thanks ADC65. I am intimately acquainted with the Event Logs on my PC especially after the latest Win10 updates.
I will refer this to CP, though, to see what they say.

Re: Unable to run reports
I managed to create a report of 841 pages. Memory peaked at 1032.7Mb, then FH crashed.

Re: Unable to run reports
Hello Mike Yes, I have tried fewer generations (11), and that works, when FH is first loaded. The report fails if I run it again. Other types of reports appear to work. The sample project won't exactly help as it's too small. Yes, I'm using the FH File>Print Setup to set up my printer. I set a note ...

Re: Unable to run reports
I'm getting this problem too. I'm running FH 7.0.22 on a Win10 pc with 12Gb main memory and plenty of spare disk. If I try to create a Descendants by Generation report for an individual for 15 generations, I get an "Unable to open report" dialogue box. The report length is zero. I have alr...

Re: Generic or custom or interesting fact type
I have created a custom note fact with only two fields, the date and text. The date allows you to place the information in the text at an appropriate point in the individual's timeline. Sources can be attached as normal. So, for example, I had someone who won the Peter Pan swimming trophy in London,...

Re: Waifs and strays
Hello Natasha. My major one name study consists essentially of two parts. The first is a Word document (now extending to over 126,000 words and 400 pages, excluding table of contents, index and bibliography!). This is backed up by an FH project where all the people in the study have an entry. The FH...

Re: Closing AS
Thank you Nick for your clear reply, and yes, your suggestion would resolve my issue. I note that an FH autosave setting of 1 minute is suggested. I have had autosave set to various times, but have now extended mine to 30 minutes as I find that any shorter setting causes too many delays and extended...

Waifs and strays
In trawling through parish registers looking for people pre-civil registration it is common to find references to people with the surname being researched, but where any connection with the family being researched has not yet been discovered or cannot confidently be assumed. The same issues occur in...

Re: Closing AS
This is developing into an interesting discussion as to the various ways in which AS is used, and I have and do use it in all the ways described. I have had issues with an autosave in FH delayed as AS updates the GEDCOM which results in the changes made in AS being lost and needing to be done again,...

Re: Closing AS
Perhaps I did not exactly make myself clear  It is 1:30 and I'm off to bed. I am closing down all the open applications on my PC. I have closed FH, and now I click the big red button at the top right of the AS window. I want to close down the application so that I can shut down my PC. My quest...

Re: Returning to person in FH
As I rarely use the focus window, returning to the records window with last used filter applied and the person last updated selected would be a real and time-saving boon, and an additional and amazing bonus would be to display the chart I was working from too

Is there any reason why, when I close AS, it asks me to reload the project? It seems an unnecessary step, and it takes a quite while to reload my project.

Re: Notes regarding an "also known as"
It is my feeling that a name change entry is not entirely relevent as this lady appears to have adopted this rather uncommon first name, rather than using a completely different name. It is however a name she uses consistently going forwards with the principal exception of the 1921 census were she i...

Re: Notes regarding an "also known as"
Thanks, Mike.
I had wanted the note to appear alongside the alternative name as that is where it belongs. As the name actually appears first on Ann's marriage register entry, it could go there, I suppose.
I will report the issue to CP.

Notes regarding an "also known as"
I have an individual in my tree who has an extremely unusual first name, with only two or three other instances in the entire UK that I have discovered so far. I have made some notes against the name (also known as) attribute but I can't seem to get these to appear in any narrative report. How do I ...
