Re: New Version
John, that message is about Mike's Ancestral Sources Data Entry plugin which can be used to launch the Ancestral sources program itself. The plugin is not the AS program. There was recently a discussion about the fact that many people seem to confuse the two. See 23333|A new Ancestral Sources launch...

LAY BAPTISM ...yet that if it were administered by a laic a heretic a schismatic or even by a pagan it was a valid baptism . Wow, I like the idea of a valid baptism being performed by a pagan! Adrian: Yes, matters of status often influenced what was done. But I imagine the Book of Common Prayer wou...

Re: How to record two possible baptisms
Thanks Helen, I stand corrected. I was basing my answer on many previous Google searches, which among others throw up this quote from the Church of England, Book of Common Prayer: Private Baptism of Infants The Ministration of Private Baptism of Children in houses The Minister of every parish shall ...

Re: FMP starting to add mother's maiden name to pre 1911 births
Remember also that mother's maiden name is only relevant from 1837 onwards Has no bearing on record in the 300 years before that You are referring specifically to England and Wales (which admittedly this thread was about when it started 6 years ago. It has drifted off topic). Just to be clear, thos...

Re: How to record two possible baptisms
My nephew was baptised privately in the 1960s...It was just the family in our local Methodist church, I’m not familiar with the terminology in the Methodist Church, but the distinction between a private and public baptism in the Church of England, as recorded in parish registers, is not a question ...

Use File > Backup/Restore > Revert to Snapshot... You should then be presented with a list of snapshots for the current project. Re: Consolidating multiple occupation facts?
Hello, welcome to FHUG. Yes, in cases like this where there is overwhelming evidence that a person had one trade and stuck to it throughout their working life I do consolidate the occupation facts. If you are likely to use narrative reports this is certainly a good idea because a single paragraph su...

There is already a wish list request for narrative reports to adjust in a case where a couple had only one child: https://www.fhug.org.uk/wishlist/wldisplay.php?searchstring=narrative%20senetences&wcwcref=-1&byusrvote=include¤tpage=1&orderby=wlwlcrtdate&orderseq=DESC&wl...

Re: Allow Report sentences to recognise Individuals who are Living.
I have now realised that there is a problem with the “… was/were born to…” format. It would be completely wrong in cases of adoption, where Fred Blogs and Mary Smith are the adopting parents. Admittedly even the “had the following children“ format is slightly misleading but is sufficiently ambiguous...

Re: Allow Report sentences to recognise Individuals who are Living.
That still doesn’t work if one of the parents is alive and the other is not. Nor does it work if one of the children has died. “The following children were born to Fred Blogs and Mary Smith” is the best I can come up with, as it has no implications about whether all or any of them are still living. ...

Re: Allow Report sentences to recognise Individuals who are Living.
When child facts do exist then the report wording is "He and Mary Smith had the following children:" which can be wrong on two counts. 1) If the parents are alive it should say "have" not "had". 2) If there is only one child it should say "child" not "ch...

Re: Allow Report sentences to recognise Individuals who are Living.
This seems a reasonable request but I don’t know how easy it would be to implement, or whether CP would feel it worth their while as there are ways round the problem. As far as I know (I stand to be corrected) the format "Joe Bloggs was the son of Fred Bloggs and Mary Smith" only arises if...

Re: How to suggest a new feature or improvement?
This group (FHUG) has its own Wish List, where requests for enhancements or new features can be made. Calico Pie (the developers of FH) take it into account but their decisions about what to do depend on the ease of coding, how much demand there is for a feature, etc. The procedure to get something ...

Re: How to display name prefixes & suffixes in focus window and charts
To expand on John's reply, the prefix and suffix cannot be displayed in the Focus window but they can be displayed in the caption at the top of the individual’s Property Box. To do this, use Tools > Preferences > Property Box > Captions. Change the Individual: value to use %INDI.NAME[1]:ADORNED_FULL...

Re: FMP starting to add mother's maiden name to pre 1911 births
There is no specific field for this related to the birth fact. If you have the birth certificate or some other image of the full birth record the details can go in the text from source. (I use ‘split’ sources for these.) For GRO indexes I use ‘lumped’ sources, one for each index, and I record the mo...

Re: generations
This post is in the Reports, Books and Websites forum so perhaps the question is about the number of generations in a report. When you first generate an Ancestor or Descendant report you can choose how many generations to include (the default is 3). And once the report is open you can change the num...

Which text scheme are you using? (Diagram > Options > Text tab will show the selected scheme.) Try selecting a different scheme. Does it display the same problem? If you are using one of the standard schemes and it's been altered or corrupted it should have been re-set when you re-installed. Click t...

Re: A new Ancestral Sources launcher...?
I think one of the sources of confusion in the past has been that some users think they have to have the plugin in order to run AS. They don’t realise, or they forget, that AS can be launched independently while FH is closed. It might be worth emphasising this by adjusting the description to say “An...

Re: How to create a Lumper Source Record for NSW Marriages?
I assume that the “Text from Source”, “Notes” and “Media” tabs are related to my now Lumper Source Record. So, I guess my only option is to use the Note: text box at the bottom of the “Citation Specific Details” section. If you look at the ‘Show’ field at the top of those tabs you will see a drop-d...

Re: Brides marrying young
The difficulty, or course, is that you can't always be sure of their age unless a birth date was included in their baptism record. I have a case where the bride might have been 14, but that's only if she was baptised within a few weeks of birth.
