Re: Record window anomaly
In the Records Window, ..... the rows are sorted on a primary column and then sorted in groups from left to right columns. It has always been my understanding that in the Records window the last three sorts are ‘remembered’, so that if a column has identical row values the row subsets are sorted ac...

Re: Swapping Images
Hello Steve, welcome to FHUG. On the media tab of the individuals' Property Box you will see a column headed Pref. This shows the preferred order for the pictures to be displayed. To swap the priority of the photos select the one you want to place first and use the black arrow in the toolbar to chan...

Re: Lost Instolation Code
You need to copy your Family Historian Projects folder from your old laptop to the new one. If you have made any customisations to your settings in the program you will also need to copy those across, using one of the Backup and Restore plugins. This article in the Knowledge Base covers the full mig...

Re: Check for Unlinked Media
The only explanation I can think of is that when you renamed the media files you actually created copies with the new names, leaving the old files in place. Can you confirm that the folder where the files are held now contains only the ones with the ‘Census’ name? When you used the Search and Replac...

Re: Essential source templates not to standard?
I believe that the format DavidChilds quoted for the citation is actually the Strathclyde format for citing an entry in the birth registration index. An entry in the births index should be recorded using the Civil Registration Index template. You will find that it produces a footnote in exactly the ...

Re: Publish a Narrative Report for the Paternal Line only of my ancestors
You could create a copy of your master Project and delete the maternal line of ancestors. Then the report will only include the paternal line. A simple option is of course to Root the report on your Father, or temporarily unlink your Mother from her parents while you produce the report. Both of the...

Re: 1881,1891,1901 CENSUS BIRTHS DIFFERENT
Where was the marriage? In any part of the UK in 1874 there should have been witnesses recorded. Scottish marriage records include the mother’s name but other regions of the UK recorded only the father. As you have both the father’s and the mother’s name you could try searching for a baptism record....

Re: 1881,1891,1901 CENSUS BIRTHS DIFFERENT
You say you have his marriage certificate. Does it include his father’s name and occupation? If so, that might help to identify him in earlier censuses when he would have been about 10 (1861) and 20 (1871). You might be able to find him in a household with his father. (Of course you need to bear in ...

Re: Monumental Inscriptions - thoughts?
I felt that Monumental Inscriptions was the best name for this as it was a broader term. Does this seem reasonable? Yes. Keep it broad. It could even be used for ‘Blue Plaques’ (on a building where someone lived) or inscriptions on a park bench. Which date do you think the template creator envisage...

Re: Marriage record id
I agree with Nick. The Focus window was introduced to provide an uncluttered summary. In fact with the default settings it doesn’t even include the Individual IDs, although these can be added. However, on a related issue, CP do seem strangely reluctant to make new users even aware of the existence o...

Re: Marriage record id
Ron, It looks as if you work with the Property box docked beside the Focus window, so if you just want to be able to see the Family ID number easily, click on the Marriage event line in the Focus window and that will display the Family record in the Property box, where the ID number appears in the C...

Re: Search and delete duplicate Family
I thought the OP was worried that if the family with two children was merged into the family with one child the extra child would be lost. (It wouldn’t be) It’s true that if any of the children in the two families have different ID numbers but are in fact the same person they would need to be merged...

Re: Search and delete duplicate Family
I agree with Mike, any extra children will be preserved by default. You would have to deliberatley remove them if you didn't want them to be kept. However, to answer jacque's question about how to switch the order of the records being merged, this is from the Help file: A Selector Dialog will appear...

Hello, welcome to FHUG. I think you probably have only one record for Tellev and only one for his wife Tone, but you have created two Family records for them. I hate to contradict Lorna, but few of the popular Report types have a Record Id tick Option and few of them have a Main tab. Two that do are the Outline Reports and Record Detail Reports. Re: Adding Media files.
Are we all agreed that it is highly desirable that on the media tab of the property box there should be an option for all of the images associated with the individual to be listed? I woudn't object but I wouldn't use it, so for me it's definitely not 'highly desirable'. The Media tab of the Propert...

Re: Adding Media files.
currently to do so one has to work around this limitation in FH and physically link the image directly to the individual. A relatively simple change to FH (and TNG) would allow the media tab to show those images without having to do this. I suspect that CP feel they have provided something close to...

It wouldn't bother me at all if there were extra options on the media tab, for example the ability to select what media types get shown... 😁 There is something a little bit like that already. Do you open AS directly, or launch it using Mike’s plugin? I don’t use the plugin but I know it has a Close on 'Save Entry To File' ? option so if you untick that it won't close AS after each save. Otherwise AS shouldn’t close after saving, regardless of whether you have selected “Offer to retain se...
