Re: 1939 Missing Entries Query

Regarding David's first question, Anyone any idea how reliable and complete this indexing of later surnames is? I have found the indexing to be accurate whenever a later surname has been added, i.e. the person can be found under either surname (subject to legibility). But the addition of later surna...

Re: Family Group Report

When you view the report on screen in FH can you see the sources list? If so it should be printed with all the other pages. If you click Save Report As... and save it as a PDF file are all the pages there? If you choose either of the other options ( At end of record on same page or At end of record ...

Re: Have vs Had Children sentence

Bear in mind also that in your example of "survived by" - for non-living parents with some or all living children you may be omitting some important information from the report if you do not list the children who had pre-deceased the parents. Some of them might have reached adulthood and had familie...

Re: Disc drive for installation

Yes, just repeat the steps you took last April, but this time with the new PC/laptop. As long as you are able to install version 6 (even if it's an early version 6) you can then go to this page https://www.family-historian.co.uk/downloads to download the latest free upgrade to version 6.2.7 You will...

Re: Disc drive for installation

You seem to have had problems in April last year when you started this topic: 16799|re installing original Family Historian programme It was explained there (by Mike Tate) that: "You don't need the FH V4 CD so may as well throw it away. You only need the latest purchased Upgrade FH V5 to V6 installa...

Re: Disc drive for installation

I assume you mean you have previously purchased FH on a CD (rather than as a download). This is the advice in the Knowledge Base: If you only have an Installation CD, but your new PC is a Netbook/Laptop with no CD drive, then on any PC with a CD/DVD drive, copy the entire contents of the Installatio...

Re: Note field Citations disallowed in 5.5.1

I created one for the first time. I then went to the Records Window Notes tab and found the note. I added a citation to the note there. Now when I go back to the Notes tab in the Property Box, I don't see the citation anywhere. Is there a way to easily see the source for the note? You are not the f...

Re: Note field Citations disallowed in 5.5.1

If FH wanted to be 5.5.1 compliant it would have to disable the Source pane with respect to every Note field.... But it's only the record level note fields which have the Source pane available. And the presence of the Source pane encourages the user to add a source. For fact notes the Source pane a...

Re: Note field Citations disallowed in 5.5.1

I don't suppose many people have souce citations on fact level note fields, as there wouldn't be much point. The Source can be cited against the fact rather than the fact note. But record level notes are another matter! If FH wanted to be compatible with 5.5.1 it would have to disable the Source pan...

Re: Only Child

(Edit: Adrian's reply arrived while I was writing this. Here's mine anyway, making some of the same points.) The UK 1911 Census incudes child counts that can be reflected in the Child Count attribute to indicate that as yet undiscovered children still need to be found, possibly because they were bor...

Re: Section of family tree gone missing

Since Source records are only a fragment of the GEDCOM file, it is difficult to understand how they can all get deleted without affecting anything else in that file. There was a problem identified, and fixed, many years ago in Ancestral Sources which could cause some Source records to disappear. Su...

Yes, click the Options button to the right of the report. On the Contents tab under Main Section Items (in order) scroll down to Parents (first set) which by default will be set to Show Even if Empty. Select this line then click the Edit button just above it and set it to Show if not empty .

Re: Alignment of all-relatives diagram

The spacing is determined by the fact that the horizantal bar below Richard Jones Rees and his wife (the bar which connects their children) is very wide. Presumably this is because those children have a lot of descendants. There are a couple of things you could try. First, try using the Box and Bar ...

And since 1969 the date of ...

Click the cog wheel icon in the Facts tab toolbar, and select Timeline Facts. Oddly although you can set a cut-off date you can't block pre-birth events from the displa...
