Re: Individual ~ BMD Census Check

It's unlikely that installing and removing a query would upset the process of saving a report as PDF, so I suspect the timing is a coincidence. Does the PDF get saved at all before FH shuts down? Problems with saving as PDF can occasionally arise, sometimes as the result of a Windows upgrade, althou...

Re: Ancestor diagram for two siblings?

By definition an Ancestor diagram displays only direct ancestors, so siblings will not be included. However you could use an Ancestors and Descendants diagram (the third of the diagram icons in the main toolbar), and in the Diagram Options > General tab set Generations down to 1 , and set Spouse dis...

Re: Simple diagram question

The white spaces with crosses in them are where pictures of the individuals should be. FH is not finding the picture files in the expected location. This is not a result of upgrading, but you must have moved some or all of your picture files to a different location on your computer. See how_to:chang...

Re: Adding Census Fact to Husband only

There are two types of census event available: Census which applies to an Individual record and appears with a blue dot beside it in the Facts tab of the Property Box, and Census (family) which applies to a Family record (husband and wife) and has a red dot beside it in the Facts tab. It sounds as i...

Re: Order of Media Pictures

Sorry, I'm not sure what the problem is. (And where are you 'clicking on one of the children'?) Can you post a screenshot showing the media tab which is causing the problem? Here is an example from the FH Sample Project. With the second item selected in the Media tab of the Property Box, both black ...

Re: Date Entry and Scroll Bar fixes

Mike, I think Ron's first sentence is referring to the Date Entry Assistant dialog. On the Period tab there is a zero entered in the year field for From but not for To. However the zero also appears on the Date, Range and Quarter Date tabs and he has not mentioned them.

Re: Order of Media Pictures

Hello Bob, wlecome to FHUG. When you link Media directly to an individual you can see the list on the Media tab of their Property Box. If you select one in the list by clicking on it you can then use the black up/down arrows in the toolbar of the Media tab to change the order of preference as indica...

Re: Narrative report not all pictures/media appear in report

Robin, in your first post you said I have discovered that if the media/picture is linked through the media function, this creates a + sign and a new listing for the descendant. If the media picture is linked as a fact, the picture remains with the descendant under the parent. I think you mean that i...

Re: Diagram: inserting background image

Mike, I think Anthony means your option 1 by Background and your option 2 by Watermark because the FH help files use that term when discussing formatting an image inserted into a diagram. (Although as you say, the fade/watermark option is the same with the Background method)

Re: Diagram: inserting background image

Re the 'postage stamp' sized watermark version, you should be able to click on the image to make the small white squares appear at the corners, then drag one corner to enlarge the image. With the diagram/options/background/image/fade=60% version, did you remember to click OK or Apply before closing ...

Re: Running repeated queries

If you frequently want to lock a Query window you may find it easier to use Tools > Workspaces and in the column headed Re-use of Open Windows Permitted set the option to No for the Query Window. This will, in effect, lock Query Windows automatically so that you don't have to remember to do it manua...

Re: Diagrams - moving one box at a time

Yes, once you have got used to using the Fixed Point option it is very useful, but it is a bit of a learning curve. You are right, the only way of automatically including images in a diagram is to include them in the individuals' boxes. You can indeed insert lines into a diagram. Use Diagram > Inser...

Re: Diagrams - moving one box at a time

Yes, sorry, I misread the dimension options for boxes. The important one is the Maximum Picture Height . I was trying to avoid suggesting increasing the Miminum Box size. As Mike says, that is a way of making all the boxes the same size but it will not be a good idea in your ten generation diagram. ...

Re: Diagrams - moving one box at a time

Yes, you need to use the Movement Control Box (click the second icon from the right in the Daigram toolbar). You will need the Fixed Point option, setting one box as the fixed point and dragging another box away. You may have to experiment a bit to get a satisfactory layout because other elements of...

Re: Custom diagram settings

Re: "All Pool Relatives Except Partner Ancestors" Missing Some Direct Relatives

I also can't explain why the relationships change when some people are removed from the tree, unless it is to do with some blood relatives being removed. Re: "All Pool Relatives Except Partner Ancestors" Missing Some Direct Relatives

I have constructed some small but odd trees to test some aspects of the plugin, as they apply to Bob’s scenario. I think there are a couple of minor discrepancies between what it is supposed to do and what it actually does: 1. The 50% cut off for removing the youngest generations of the spouse’s lin...

Jane, if they are children of the ancestor and the ancestor's second spouse they will be shown, but they are ' half ' relations, not ' step ' relations. Re: "All Pool Relatives Except Partner Ancestors" Missing Some Direct Relatives

I don’t have a sufficiently multi-interconnected tree to test this very well (I suspect Bob may be the only FHUG user who does!) but the compromise you describe seems reasonable. In Bob’s case if he wants to send a Gedcom or a Report to someone who has a closer blood relationship to himself than to ...
