Possible glitch in Export GEDCOM plugin
I am playing with importing my TMG data into FH, exporting it using the above plugin and then using GEDSite to produce a website from it. I have just noticed that the plugin seems to be exporting all "Burial" tags as "Cremation" - can anyone confirm that, or is it just me (it oft...

Re: Search & replace in Role sentence templates
Mike - thank you so much for that.
My Customisation files are stored in a different place (I don't store data on my C: drive), but the process is as you described and was eminently successful.

Search & replace in Role sentence templates
I expect I'm just in my normal Pooh Bear of very little brain mode, but how do I use Edit>Find & Replace or the Search & replace plugin to change Role sentence templates? This is necessary because FH still does not import roles cleanly from TMG and every female role sentence is pre-pended wi...

Re: Moving source 'Notes' to 'Text From Source'
Hi Mike, I seem to have overcome the problem (which was probably me!). The second of the two plugins I identified has worked. This is the one which swaps "Text from source" with "Notes". I suspect that since it did its job so quickly (I am playing with a small database) and does ...

Re: Moving source 'Notes' to 'Text From Source'
Mike,
thank you for your prompt response.
The plugins I had come accross which have a bearing on this include:-
download/file.php?id=4050
download/file.php?id=1580
Does this help?

Moving source 'Notes' to 'Text From Source'
I have come across several of Mike Tate's plugins which automate the process of moving source "Notes" to "Text from source", but none of them seem to do anything under Version 7. I assume this is a result of changes in Ver 7 and wondered if anyone could advise me how those older ...

Re: How to save a view
Thanks Mike - I have to say that this is a major oversight by the program writers - other programs seem perfectly able to able to offer this facility.

How to save a view
I know I'm being dumb here, but I cannot figure out how, having produced an arrangement of Focus Window, Property Box, source citation that I want to work with, I can save that view and have the program open in that configuration every time.
There must be an easy answer, but I can't find it.

Re: Apparent failure to transcribe TMG text format code on import
I raised a ticket with FH suggesting that translation of these codes should be part of the import process and within a commendably short space time got an answer, reproduced below. "As you rightly say, it could be handled as part of the input process. However, we weren't quite sure what to do w...

Apparent failure to transcribe TMG text format code on import
UPDATE - I have now raised a support ticket on this I have been footling around with a subset of my TMG database to assess the improved import process and I seem to have come across a problem. In my sources on TMG, I use the TMG italic code [ITAL:] text goes here[:ITAL]. Instead of being transcribed...

Re: Creating a web site with FH
Dear Nick-V, I am afraid my use of Second Site has so far been limited pretty well to the vanilla straight out of the box level. Whilst I cannot guarantee that the GEDCOM version John Cardinal has in hand will have all the bells and whistles that the TMG version has, I would be surprised if it were ...

Re: Creating a web site with FH
As regards third-party programs which create web sites from genealogical data, you may care to keep an eye out for an upcoming offering from John Cardinal. John produces the Second Site program, which is used with TMG only. This is an incredibly flexible web site generator of great quality. However,...

Re: Truncation of Media filenames on import from TMG
Mike,
many thanks for the latest plugin - it did the trick and saved me a load of work - much appreciated.
Is it something that should be mentioned in the "Transfer from TMG" section?
Best wishes

Re: Truncation of Media filenames on import from TMG
Hi Mike, I have cracked it! It is a TMG quirk. Having looked at one of the Media Records ("Exhibits" in TMG) I have discovered the following. TMG gives each exhibit a name which for reasons unknown it calls the "Topic". You can specify your own (I was not aware of this and have n...

You can make the column as wide as you like - only 30 characters are displayed.

Re: Truncation of Media filenames on import from TMG
Oh b*ll*cks! - my error - it is just the width of the first column of the media window which is truncated (and I note, not configurable) - not the filename itself.
Grovelling apologies

Truncation of Media filenames on import from TMG
Looking at the TMG data I have imported (using direct method), I note that FH has truncated the names of the media files to 30 characters.
Why?
Is this configurable?

Hi again Nick,
I see your argument and I think that you draw a valid distinction in terms of the equality of participation in the event.

How to enter witness age
When I click on a "normal" census fact in the "Facts" tab for an individual, the data entry pane below allows me to input date, age, place, address and a note. However, if I click on a census fact that is derived from the individual being a witness to a census entry, there is no ...

Re: Incorrect lifespan dates in Focus window
Hmmm..... well not entirely. Putting Facts in Date Order does change things, but it makes it clearer that FH merely takes the first birth fact it sees as the start of the life span and the first death fact it sees as the end of the span. No genealogy program should make assumptions on the part of th...

Incorrect lifespan dates in Focus window
I have several instances where I have more than one possible birth date and/or death date for an individual. These derive from different sources. FH seems to make up its own mind as to which of these dates to use to display the lifespan in the focus window. For instance, where I have 6 possible birt...
