Re: Problems with Individual Tabs
I was wondering about video driver updates. It's worth checking you've got the most up-to-date versions of the specific drivers for your device (not the generic Microsoft ones).

Re: Private Messages
... The private messaging system is disabled completely, but turning it off in user settings is belt and braces in case a future forum software update inadvertently changes things. It might be useful to put this into the Rules, explaining also that private messaging by email is available provided t...

Re: Getting Display Resolution
The information had to be somewhere, I just could not find it. Says everyone who has ever used IUP... I am increasingly resorting to ChatGPT: In Lua, using the IUP library, you can get the size of the display in pixels by utilizing the iup.GetScreenSize() function. Here's how you can do it: lua req...

Re: Getting Display Resolution
I usually set the size of a Dialog to HALF x HALF, knowing that will fit on the screen, and have scrollbars where needed, plus the ability to resize the dialog. However, if you look in the IUP documentation and Attributes > Global > Screen information, you'll find (if you haven't already found it) F...

Re: Getting Display Resolution
Why not let IUP do the work? From the Attributes for a Dialog: SIZE (non inheritable): Dialog’s size. Additionally the following values can also be defined for width and/or height: "FULL": Defines the dialog’s width (or height) equal to the screen's width (or height) "HALF": Defi...

Re: Private Messages
There seems to be a focus in this discussion on technology, rather than on behaviour. So let's try again. The Terms now state: The forums support sending private messages via email to other users who have agreed to receive them. Be polite: sending unsolicited private messages by any means is not all...

Hi Neil, My DMs are off so, unless you can see the email feature (I have no problem with my spam filter nuking any random weirdos), that's a bug with the forum. Cheers, Tamara Tamara, you need to turn off DMs and Email messages. image.png And I'm totally with you on Internet Safety 101. I have DMs ...

Re: Private Messages
Can I remind you that using the private messaging facility to send unsolicited messages is not allowed. Whilst I am generally in agreement with this, there are times when you couldn't ask on the forum "May I PM you". Why not? I am baffled by the above statement though as well. Where on th...

Re: filling out a source template
Just to add, to record the equivalent of 'Source of a source', I would put 'Ancestry.com' in the URL field of the template and 'Berlin, Germany, Births, 1874-1908' in the Collection field. The template needs modifying to include those in the footnote, however.

Re: Question about citations added to Media records
Helen; So; this would be used as a citation to a single image and create a standard Source Record associated with that single image. When one creates a citation for a "fact", it creates a standard Source Record for the single fact. I realize that all Source Records can have multiple image...

Re: Question about citations added to Media records
If you have (say) a photograph of an individual, you can use the citation to record its source etc. 'Betty Boop provided this via Ancestry; I don't know the original photographer and am on the fence about whether this if Great Aunt Ada or not...'

Re: Plugins planned/in progress
The first three I have thought maybe worthwhile offering were adding a Birth Certificate, Marriage Certificate and Death Certificate. In all 3 cases, they are a single screen entry plugins, that use the Civil Registration Certificate template. They are stable in my environment, and I have been usin...

Re: Plugin Author Guidelines in KB
Regarding Mandatory Requirement 4. using libraries, I don't see how it would be possible for a linked FHUG plugin to invoke separate libraries, which would not exist in the user's file system unless they were downloaded separately via another link. Doesn't need a link. Just copy the loadrequire sni...

Re: Monumental Inscriptions - thoughts?
For women, it's tricky as I want it to link to her main record, which has her birth surname, but also need to note her married name. I would likely use my own edited source template which would include a note field in which I could mention her surname at death. But a source/citation identifies a 'd...

Re: Plugin Author Guidelines in KB
My Lookup Missing Census/BMD plugins produce URL in a browser table that when the user clicks on them uploads the URL details such as names, dates & places to search Ancestry, FMP, etc. So presumably the user clicking on those URL is not integral with the plugin. If a plugin displays results wi...

Re: Plugin Author Guidelines in KB
I would be happy with "is not permitted for either Plugin Store plugins or plugins linked from FHUG", but what does FHUG admin think? It's a fair point, and on reflection I think it ought to be mandatory for plugins linked from FHUG as well, (although as you say later they aren't checked ...
